Thank God MH did not give all his songs to the Dramatics and Norman Connors. He is certainly one of the best to come out of the 70's. He even held his own in the early 80's. Goin Places is my favorite album by him. He was/is good at any speed. As far as a comparison to Rap or Hip Hop goes, there isn't one. Funk is the DNA for Hip Hop. Early Hip Hop was OK. Now it's B.S., all of it.
@MDVEEJAZZ You speak the truth. i had this album way back when. Michael Henderson truly did not get the recognition that he deserved. Today's rap and hip hop celebrities ( I call them celebrites because they dont have the talent, creativity or musical knowledge that can hold a candle to any of the artists that you have mentioned. The 70's had the best funk! Hands down.
Another Klassic joint by the premier balladeer! And dig the Alex Axxe bass that he is muthapluckin' on this track. MH was the triple threat - singer, musician, writer/producer. He really took Miles Davis' advice when he played in his band - "Let your self go brother".
"In the hot Sand..................Do what you will with me..............!"
I love this !!!! Just heard this track recently on Best Jazz Station in Houston : KTSU. Shots out to KTSU !!!! I love this song !!!!! This man has some smooth vocals !!!
@WLMJTunes because hip hip is nothing but shit you guys play your own instruments come up with your own sound you will be more respected don't sample music create it
@awsullyful With all due respect, people who say that, know nothing about hip hop. Sampling started because poor people in the Bronx were getting their music, art, and, in some cases, sports programs taken away. Because the youth had nothing to do, they started resorting to violence. When cool herc and Bambaataa hooked up to make a solution, they used what resources they had. It just so happen that records and turntables was one resource. I definitely understand your frustration or anguish...
@WLMJTunes YOU THINK THESE ARTISITS HAD IT ANY BETTER YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR MIND DID YOU FOREGET THE FIFTIES WHERE THEY WERE NOT ALLOWED IN A LOT OF PLACES THEY DIDN'T GO AND KILL PEOPLE LIKE I SAID SHIT MUSIC
@WLMJTunes YOU THINK THESE ARTISITS HAD IT ANY BETTER YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR MIND DID YOU FORGET THE FIFTIES WHERE THEY WERE NOT ALLOWED IN A LOT OF PLACES THEY DIDN'T GO AND KILL PEOPLE LIKE I SAID SHIT MUSIC
...with hip hop, but there is no music genre that is perfect. They all were tainted with revolutional movements that were not liked certain demographics. If it wasn't for people like 9th Wonder, J Dilla, Pete Rock, Kev Brown, or Slakah, I would not know anything about 60's, 70's, or 80's soul. Also, if I never found them, I would have probably been causing trouble or laying dead somewhere. I resorted to making beats through sampling, and because of that, I stayed at home or at record shops...
@WLMJTunes I definietly agree I was one of those cats in the 90's that used to read the tape covers to see where they got the beats from. Gangstarr got me hip to jazz back in middle school and pete rock so I know what you are saying.
looking for records and researching the link between us and them. Even though I don't want to change your mind, I hope this sheds a little light on hip hop in a respectful way.
@awsullyful somebody's upset damnif it wasnt for Hip Hop Music period cats wouldnt know about the funk and ol' school so fall back with the anger and let us pay homage by getting Ideas from the old school and mix them with our ideals peace
Michael Henderson along with Norman connors used to make some of the coolest, soulful, slick tunes and their album covers had some of the finest sisters. Class, this song here was/is the joint. A man's song for a woman, great base line with great instrumentation. A classic album with everything on it a classic.
Still, As Great as it Was back in the Day !! They Just can't Make Music or understand the greatiness of this Music Era... Still Great to just Listen to .....Brings back the Good Memories .....
used to play that whole side one of this album whip it, goin places, let me love you and the 4th song on side one i can't remember right now over and over while stationed in korea in 78
wow I used to play this in high school on my 8-track in my 72 red&white interior dodge charger with chrome spokes and ganster whitewalls and white tv antenna.usually in a three peice suit at school and smooth florshiems.yea I was ahead of my time.I was also into jazz. michael is the best.
THERES NO GREATER MALE VOCALIST AND MUSICIAN AS BRILLIANT AND SEXY AS THE lEGENDARY , MICHAEL HENDERSON. HE'S BEEN PLAYING SINCE A CHILD AT "MOTOWN......LOVE YA MICHAEL.
Nothing can compare to you Michael Henderson. This music still sounds as awesome as it did when it was first released. Talent, style and class personified (and super sexy to boot!) Whew! What a gifted performer.

I seem to be getting a bit of a George Benson thing going on with this tune.
God, this tune is just sooooo slick and soulful, so cool!!!!!
I was born in 71 so I was a child to really appreciate this era of music but thanks to my mum, I listened to it EVERY DAY and now it's in my BLOOD!!!!
