I was a custodian, until the school committee voted to outsource our department. It wasn't about saving money it was about stomping on the little guy and busting the union. This country is falling apart because of greed and nobody caring about the other guy. All you people in a position of power be careful what you wish for, not only are you hurting the custodians and their family you're hurting the kids and the community. It's for the kids right?
My freand is a Custodian in one world financial center in new york, we works floors 5-45 and up I think he is 18 and works for ABM. He could move to One WTC when its done but he is going to move on to big and better things like a building super.
All custodians if a wage freeze is asked, take it, because we do not want to see anyone lose their jobs! We MUST be together on this! The republicans then talk about gays as an entity! Gays are not the entity, it is over population! The bigotry needs to stop and now!

I bin a custdian 4 2 wks n I luv my job. I love makn my school the best lookn cleanest professional environment. Teachers appreciate what I do 4 emm. I take out trash broom mop clean sinks unclog shitty toilets. I work for a agency called BSA Building Services of America.
I back all the remaks of all my fellow custodians. It does not help matters when you deal with narcissistic administrators, spineless supervisors, and disrespectful parents who do not raise their kids to respect other people's property. As far as that one that cleans that small area of 10 rooms, etc., try cleaning 23 classrooms, dusting, mopping, vacuuming rungs, cleaning sidewalks, bathrooms, and maintaining cafeterias with over 1K kids. That's a local ISD custodian's job here down south!

School custodians have to clean up urine that boys leave on the bathroom floors, and when a school custodian is laid off, then our job is that much harder! Parents are so ignorant these days as well!

I want all of you union haters to try and clean ten classrooms, 2 large bathrooms, an office complex and a library and computer room along with a kitchen in 8 hours plus cut grass, shovel snow, set up for events, change all light bulbs and clen uni-vent filters! I too am a custodian in a large school district and its an awesome job. Benifits are 2nd to none. This digital video pretty much says it all. And don't let these guys fool you, there's plenty of "down" time on an average day/night. One good thing is that if you do a decent job, nobody is gonna start watching you and you're on your own. It really free's my mind.
If I can't find a job in my field, this would be my only other option, it seems enjoyable, has benefits, I personally like physical work and to see the results of my work and a custodial position offers that. If I did take on this role, I would further it with maintenance support skills like plumbing, heating, and electrical skills
