its hard to believe this band actually had good songs at one point when hearing this "thing"... which sounds like a christian rock reject song. pretty sure the only people who like this song have hair styles like the band and shop at walmart for everything.
@bookmarkthis Wow.. What are YOU smoking? They are clearly out of genre... but DO still tour successfully. But in the late 70s and then again late 80s they were MASSIVE - both in terms of tours and record sales. Barracuda and Crazy on Your have 2 of the best openings ever. Ann is clearly one of the 10 best female voalists ever. Same with Nancy on the guitar. (And I LOVE the difference with Nancy SINGING this song.)
The story told by the song is of a woman describing how she is within a world of fantasy that occurs every time she falls asleep, a world where what is and what isn't cannot always be determined, "every second of the night, I live another life." She speaks of wishing to "hide away from the pain," but it is unclear whether she wants to live in the dream world to hide away from the pain of the real world, or wants to go back to the real world to hide from the pain of the dream world.wikipedia
This song was dedicated (on the album) to Nancy Wilson's good friend Sharon Hess, who died of leukemia shortly before the song was made.[4] The lyrics of the song describe the fantasy world a person enters when faced with a difficult situation in real life
Does anybody know people of those 70's and 80's are deeply in love with God, Jesus and Angels. I think God Watches Over People in those days. The song dreams are talking about being in heaven and seeing Angels. Wow, i suspect there are human angels. Angels who are reborn into this world who even know they were angels. The song dream is actually very angelic so i guess many people like it. Well Prehaps, the person who wrote the song has seen heaven. Wow, great insight right!!
To all you Coastal Carolina Chanticleers fans out there: This was the #1 song in the USA when Charles "Dock" Doyle came into the world (March 24, 1986).
@LicoriceLain From interviews I've seen it seems that the record company made them. As the record industry got more corporate in the 80s, bands weren't allowed to play their own songs and were forced to sing songs that were written for them and adjust their image accordingly. Nancy says that These Dreams and Alone were the only two they ever really liked from that period.
I really love the song. It has one of best song from Heart of time. Nancy Wilson you did wonderful job on the singing. I am very proud of you for doing good job on the singing on the song.
Trivia I recall. She was getting over a cold when recording this. She decided she actually thought it sounded better with that little bit of raspiness and decided not to re-record it. If you listen closely you can make out the kind of sexy raspiness.
You know, while I was watching this video, I looked on the "Featured Videos" on the side, and saw "Nicki Minaj - Stupid Hoe." I thought...Wow. What a comparison. I miss the 80s...
@Beatlesfan87 Yeah, "Stupid Hoe" pretty much sums up what Nicki Minaj is. The song's autobiographical you see. Being autobiographical, that's a pretty appropriate song title haha.
Just thought of something. Spent 2 daya in jail at their concert in 1990. Missed the concert since we were in a makeshift detention area (trailer). Watch for the cops if you are going to do coke at a concert!!!! I Don't do that no more. The good thing is that we still got to hear the music stoned out of our minds. See what the Army can teach you.
Had a kick ass concert in Seattle New Year's Eve 1982. They were just off a 9 month world tour and rocked out jammed out for another 45 mins. One of my favorite memories of being in the army at Ft. Lewis
So bad its good, if she had fallen in that water with her colossal hair and American football shoulder pads on, even David hasslehoff would have struggled pulling her out
Gorgeous voices singing beautiful (meaningful, intelligent) lyrics. Funny how 54 people without ANY musical appreciation, recognition or intelligence can "dislike" stunning talent like the Wilson sisters had!
I have the strangest memories with this song. I would work night shifts as a substitute janitor at my local school district, and one of my coworkers would always have his radio on. This song usually came on every time.
@PetaHatingChris42 1985 was the center of the time vortex as doctor emmet brown said, so whenever you turned on the radio, no matter where you are, this will be the first song that plays.
the Wilson sisters certainly had something, Anne and Nancy could certainly rock the place! Saw them at Wembley with Thunder. They joined together for a cover of Led Zep's" Rock N Roll", Brilliant. Some great videos as well.
Oh how I love Heart! Now here is a band who produced so many hits in the 70's and 80's and this song being my favorite! So many memories go with this song. Spending those summer days with my friends at the park watching the sun go down with Heart playing on the boom box and all of us talking about our big dreams that we had for our lives. Feeling like nothing could ever change from that moment. That we would always feel the way we felt at that moment. Oh to feel that way again. I sure miss it!
Useless fact: the chick singing sung this while battling a cold which is why you hear her raspy voice at 'every second of the night'. Turned out to sound pretty good.
Really, is it just me because this was my generation? I mean there are some good songs out there today, some... None of them compare to the 80's though. Am I just being biased?
@xxXWickEdThaTwayXxx nope am with u on that...the 80s had d best music with a bit trickling into the 90s coz madonna and michael jackson were still around with a few other oldies like luther vandross and phil collins but d late 90s is where it all went off key,,,,groups like tlc, boyz2men, as well as amy grant and bryan adams kept it alive into the mid 90s but thats about it in my opinion

There must have been some music magic in the 80's because there are still bands that put out 80's type music but it still is not the same.Even 80's bands can't do it, except maybe Ozzy. Ratt also released a song recently "Best of Me" that has an 80's feel to it.

@Yobidefy basically it is too and it has been when any time I would listen to them. it would bring me back when I was younger to listen to them. now I put them on Kosmic on face book for others to listen to.

This song was the #1 song the week I was born. I love Heart and I love this song but I never would've guessed it was Heart! Love it. 80s music has always been my favorite :)
