if u type 'bind (any button) sv_portal_placement_never_bump 1' and 'bind (another button) sv_portal_placement_never_fail 1', you can place them anywhere. so we wouldn't know if you used cheats. :P

Kawaxkun, would you think he would do this just so he could shoot a portal at the back of an emitter? People use cheats like that for movies on how to get to the cake room, get your WCC back etc... but not for things like this: it's nothing special. the object that shoots the energy ball is not 3-d rendered at the back, only the front side of the mesh is rendered. why? because there is no benefit to theme or gameplay in seeing the back of that type of object.

they should have made all walls behind ball-shooters non-portalable. that was the error in the map design.

The 3D engine has less work to do when meshes have fewer surfaces to render. Since this mesh is always anchored to a wall there s rarely ever a need to view its backside, and therefore more efficient to leave that side out. Simplifying meshes is exactly why Call of Duty 4 has such a great framerate.

everything gets simplified, have you ever used a noclip cheat on a game like call of duty? ever glitched out of the map on call of duty four? if you havnt, find a video, and get out of the map, you'll see that the houses dont have insides and can actually be seen through when you're in the blackness underneath the map.
