I heard this piece tonight on the classical music station of South Florida, Miami. I was not familiar to it and I have the pleasure of making the discovery TONIGHT....sadly of missing it after so many years listeniong to classical musi....in excess of 50....however, it's never too late....
Love life, love Händel. Isn't this just beautiful, passionate, awe-inspiring? I'm a amateur violinist in a baroque ensemble, and we played this concerto grosso this autumn. We're not nearly as good as this professional orchestra, but I dare say that our joy in playing this music is at least equal. Händel is a genius!
@ohyeeaaaahh its in G, but the tuning is focused around A being 415Hz and not 440Hz as in modern instruments therefore to a moder near it will sound a semitone below. if you tune plain gut strings up to 440Hz they will break
In baroque tuning, A4=415 Hz , which makes it sound half-step lower than modern concert pitch (A4=440Hz). That's why it seems to be in F#, when in fact is in G.
I'm actually playing the 2nd movement of this @ a summer orchestra camp. It's sooo much fun to play! Especially with the soloists and the contrasting dynamics! And the 4th movement is fun too! :D
The oboe parts for some of the concerti seem to have been omitted by Walsh, although they exist in the manuscript and the presentation volume, probably copied by Christopher Smith, known as the Aylesford Manuscript. Essentially, the oboe parts copy the concertino violins.
We're playing this piece this Saturday for a Concert. It's awesome, and I think it's going pretty well for everyone only having a week of practice (we're not playing it this fast though)
Haha we almost bought a full set of baroque bows for our orchestra when we played this. Then we discovered they were $150 a bow :/

Sometimes I enjoy picking up illegals from the home depot and taking them home and make them watch me asphyxiate myself.

@ohyeeaaaahh Well technically it's not F#, the older instruments were off just a tad, so it's an almost F#
