  • Reminiscent of Dolly Parton wiggling her breasts against the bells of St Paul's Cathedral, London.

  • FYI Xenakis was an architect, and he viewed his compositions as physical constructions. Find a video of Metastasis showing the score go by in real time and you will understand. This is a guy who spent a part of his youth fighting against Fascism as a Communist rebel. To his ears gunfire and explosions are as much a part of his natural soundscape as cows are for farmers and "you son of a bitch" for guys who won't pay alimony or child support. His perception of that environment is everything.

  • haahahahhahahahahahahhahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahhaahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahah hahahhahah hahahahahh hahhahahhahah hahaah

  • My favorite Xenakis piece. One of the most accesibles to the public, I think.

  • how do you read this??!?!?

  • @iWyke2 The score is written out with notes. These might just be his graphical representation for his piece which he then scribbles down on staves.

  • Ti wraio tragoudi...dixws ixo!

  • I saw an exhibit of his work at the Canadian Centere for Architecture in Montreal. The man was ahead of his time...and still is.

The creator is a Mathematician and Xenakis brings us one step closer.

  • it's still surprises me to read comments on what is 'music' and what not...lots of people tend to be lost without melody (or a good beat)...yet nature itself provides rhythm and pitches...it's all around us every day...and whatever sound we choose to organise...that is music. "A composer is a guy who goes round enforcing his will on unsuspecting air molecules" (F. Zappa)

  • @splankhoon All hail Frank Zappa!!!!!

  • @splankhoon No, you are wrong. Music is "sound heard" (Cage)

  • probably what you listen to if you are from the Pleiades star cluster :)

  • headbanging from 3:15 to 3:45!

  • Sorry..... Stochastic music is for deaf people.... I'm very sorry but I can't change my mind......

  • Then why post? Just because you don't enjoy doesn't mean others don't.

  • I understand everything - so in the beginning I said - "sorry" :) - stochastic music is the art of chaos - I don't say that I don't enjoy it but still I think that - this is not music - this is an another form of art :) I apologise if I offended somebody :) have a nice day

  • To say it isn't music is just dumb. I happen to despise Country and Rap and every other form of popular music and yet I still refer to it as music, not because I like it but because it's to be refered to as music for its being a series of organized pitches. Just like this.

  • @mahler151 Incredible :) so we have definition - stochastic art is a series of organized pitches but still this is not a music :) The definition of music is: "Music is an art form whose medium is sound. Common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture.

  • To tell one what is and isn't music is incredibly ignorant and misinformed. One might was well tell what clothing they should wear, or what T.V. series. If you don't like it, stop listening to it and go back to what you consider music.

  • @mahler151 I thank for discussion. I am greeting and I wish all the best.

  • I am always up for a musical debate. Best.

  • @tigerSh4rq Staggering ignorance there. You won't change your mind as you aren't bright enough to have realized that any sound in any form can be music. One day in the far flung future you may get it, I'm not holding my breath though. Sorry to be so rude but weather you change your mind or not this is music

  • @mothman2 great, if music and sound are the same thing, let's just remove one of these words, it would make things easier

  • @mothman2 a

  • Sounds like gamelan!

    Stochastic music is incredible!

  • I hadn't heard les percussions de stratsbourg play this, thanks for the upload.
