  • Ah I love you Dr. Oz! You can fillet my chest open and work on my heart any day!

  • you are great Dr Oz! Thanks for sharing... Godbles! -from the philippines

  • cool....n.n

  • Actually it is the mitral valve. If you look it up, it gives the false appearance of 3 cusps but actually only has two!

  • its the mitral valve... if it isn't then what is it? (Medical student studying to be a cardiothoracic surgeon)

  • that actually is the mitral valve people!

  • lol, im a second year pharmacy student and even i know that's not the mitral valve

  • That's not the mitral valve...

  • Wish you would have showed more. :)

  • Simple.

  • hahahahahhaha " that's all there is too it"

they must just party the rest of the med school / residency years I hope that's how easy med school is for me

  • The wasn't the mitral valve, the valve he showed had 3 flaps making it the tricuspid valve not the mitral valve (bicuspid valve) which has 2 flaps.

  • @achams123 or the posterior leaflet of the mitral valve looks damaged, hence the needed repair...regardless it still looks like two valves to me, but what do I know, I am just a med student...

  • This man tells everything about surgeons. Positive, social, happy, active etc. And then u will become a surgeon. Simple as that

  • ooo i think i see a tech there with his/her hands behind his back w/hands below the waist tsk tsk tsk...

  • As I readed a few comments I realized that Dr.Oz have inspired many of you including me. You just showed us how wonderful atmosphere it is in operation room.

  • aslam alaykum dr.oz, as an american of yemeni muslim decent, you inspired me to be a heart surgeon just like you, aslam alaykum

  • Dr Oz my Father had a heart attack and horrlble triple bypass. He was only 42 and a thin and fit mailman walking miles a day. You can look healthy on the outside. Anyways thanks for speaking of prevention over pills (animal tested) and covering the Vegan Cowboy, Forks over Knives and Food Inc movies on your show. I heard your wife is Vegetarian! My family are all vegan as many top athletes, dieticians and good people. MeatVideo (dot) com myspace Vegetarianveganparadies for lots of info/videos.

  • Thank you Dr. Oz. Really enjoyed the video, and enjoy your show too.

  • Dr Oz rocks!

  • Will you assist in my open heart surgery?? LOL

  • Dr.Oz you are amazing i have wanted to be a cardiac surgeon for as long as i can remember im on a tour of the methodist hosspital right now and its funny every question

he asks my hand just shoots up and i blurt out the answer whether its a question on cardiothoracic surgeons or the time it takes to become one i plan on being just like you i have 5 years till i start college though sucks but still im starting my training now

  • I don't get it... how do you start scrubbing with a sponge, is there soap with water in it already?

  • @misstalentlovesyou Yes, it is.

  • The cameraman is not scrubbed. I gotta question contamination because of how close they got. Dr. Oz has questionable aseptic techniques. No props for the CSTs that do a lot of the work either. Kinda dissapointing.

  • @GoryStump The patient was probably going to die so what Oz must have said was "Oh, darn, let's make it fun then". :)))

  • @MrAkrid ikr xD but not really lol its because theres a lot of black people in nwe york.

  • @MrAkrid

ist cus the entire audience is filled with them. its like picking 1 white marble from a group from a groups of 30 black marbles

  • You opened the sponge then starting scrubbing... is there soap already on the sponge?

  • @IpodTouchpr0zX Depends which sponge you use. Some do. some don't. his did.

  • Wow, wow, wow. Time to hit the gym...

    .

  • @DrMehmetOz I am a grade 12 female student who is graduating just in a few months. I have applied to several universities. My long term goal is to become a medical doctor. I appreciate everything you have done and shown me. You are the one who has taught me to love the human body and how it functions. You are the reason I want to do this. I thank you very much.

  • I showed my 5 y.o. daughter this video. She was fascinated (as was I)....

  • you make heart surgery look so fun....

I want to become this badly....

  • I really wanted to see where they started to cut into the chest to get to the heart. Where would they start? cut at the notch between the manubrium and the body of the sternum? and and how and where do they crack the bones?

  • @slamnxgirlxjulie Knife makes the incision. Cautery works you downto the sternum. Saw either cuts down from the sternal notch or up from the xiphoid.

  • men that is scaring but its cool

  • Awesone Dr. Oz. You're "the Best", if not the Greatest, professional and most talented honest doctor ever. Please keep up the good work at helping us and our family keep healthy. You do a great service to man kind.

    P.S.-

Want to thank you for interviewing Dr. Joseph Mercola, Holistic medicine doctor on your Dr. Oz Show, aired on 1/18/11.

Thanks for safe and effective natural products.

  • His hand scrub needs some work and his hands should stay in the cuff when putting on gloves

  • @claytonhouse1 oh plz hes done this for years, who are you to tell him what hes doing wrong.

  • @RealReckless1 Sterile technique is sterile technique, especially when doing a heart case.I was taught how to do things the right way-It keeps the chances of infection down

  • Where's your Reiki master that you sometimes have in the OR channeling energy? You're a quack "doctor" Oz.

  • I wanna be a surgeon to

  • watch?v=ACfMC4VXyM4&feature=player_embedded

Guess the doctor don't like certain questions!

  • you are amazing, ill soon be like you...i hope :)

  • His scrub is horrible! ANNNDDD He's all gowned and gloved and walkin behind anesthesia Then he goes to do heart surgery??? Thats pretty gross. It's called surgical conscience!

  • Much respect to you and anyone who can perform heart surgery or any kind of surgery for that matter. I think in order to be able to perform this and have the smarts to learn what you need to know, is truely a god given talent. INCREDIBLE!

  • Dr Oz , my mom has an aorta metal valve. I want to know if they still use metal valve and in your opinion which valve is better: cow, pig or metal and if you use an animal valve do you still have to go on coumadin.

I also want you to comment on that medicine, since is such a life changing I think you can make a whole show about this subject. Thanks.

  • @lialammas hey, i suggest that you go to his page and comment there directly so he can answer your question. I bet his pretty busy so maybe you can ask another doctor. Just a suggestion!

    :)

  • i was eatting some meat... but this ruind it and made me thow up ;l

  • OZ & THE SWINE FLU HOAX. Why does this doctor promote the mercury-abundant swine flu inoculation? In 2001 SIGA TECHNOLOGIES' board member Mehmet Oz bought 150,000 share options in SIGA TECHNOLOGIES @ $1.35 per share which is $202,500. SIGA is involved in the processing of swine flu inoculations. In October 2009 a share was worth $7.10 which (times 150,000 shares) is $1,065,000. A tidy profit to Oz of $862,500.

  • Teşekkürler Mehmet bey.

  • Interesting video. I always wondered what Perfusionists do exactly. I have volunteered at a hospital for 15 years and still learn something interesting every time I'm there.

  • OOhh woww~!!!

That is just....not me..i would have fainted if i am in that room...Respect all the Doctors..They are just doing great by helping people to stay alive...

    Love you Dr. OZ...

  • Keeping things sterile must be an art form.

  • like this if u r like me and wanna be a cardiovascular surgeon when u grow up :)

  • @steezygreasybacon Become a Clinical Cardiologist instead,Cardiac Surgeons are losing their jobs all over America now...

  • @WarrenAch oh wow that sucks well hopefully the economy will change by the time i get to college lol

  • @steezygreasybacon Not really,Clinical Cardiologists invented Interventionnal Cardiology, which can do pretty much every surgery without opening the chest, hence making Cardiac Surgeons less and less useful as before. This is permanent.

  • @WarrenAch cardiac surgery will never be in as much demand as it once was in its heyday.

however, there will always be patients with three-vessel disease, left main disease or multiple failed stents. especially in obese america. also it will be difficult for a cardiologist to stent a "transposition of great vessels" or tetralogy of fallot, so there will always be a need for CT surgeons although not as much as in the past.

  • @james040280 Why are you saying that cardiac surgery will not be as much in demand as in the past? What has changed with people today that there are less cardiac problems? With McDonald nation and obesity problems, I think cardiac surgery will be high in demand.

  • @dcentral heart disease is the #1 killer but nowadays interventional cardiologists perform non-invasive stenting, balloon angioplasty and even valve replacements without surgery.

  • thnk u doctors 4 saving our lifes

  • I love how when he shows us the heart tissue, he starts tugging at it a bit. haha xD

  • I just had a Mitral Valve repair 2 weeks ago and I'm feeling great. There is some pain of course but it's under control. I was walking 10 hours after surgery, and I went home after 5 days in the hospital. I have started walking 10 min. 3 times a day and doing minimal chores. I look better, sleep better and feel better every day. When the Doc told me I needed this operation 4 months ago I was scared of course, but with more education and understanding technology today, I was all for it. Thanx =:)

  • Dr. Oz is my idol!! :)) Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to become a Neuro and Cardio Surgeon. I hope I will be one one day.

  • well done. thank god REAL HEROES like this are here. unlike the OVERPAID footballers, singers, dancers that rule the world. Give me a thums up if you agree that people like this should get more recognition, Unlike the common kid from X-Factor :I

  • @Qwalkson keep doing the thumbs up and we can change the world!

  • Everyone who gawks over the thought of being a cardiothoracic surgeon needs to realize the field is undergoing a revolution. Jobs are hard to come by. Procedures are becoming less and less invasive... the surgeon is losing ground to the interventionalists... plan wisely for your future and keep an open mind through med school, or else you'll be in for a rude awakening.

  • I've always wanted to be a cardiothoracic surgeon.

I got 4 more years until med school... :D

  • You're so amazing Dr Oz!!!!

  • Br. OZ is a HERO !!!!!!!!!!!

    love,

    lelichka

  • Mehmet Oz : A MODERN DAY GENIUS!

  • ***** Dr. Mehmet Oz for President *****

  • Loeki76 for lobotomy

  • this confirmed my suspicions that it has not healed like they thought it might. i was supposed to get heart checked at 13 but my ex doctor said dw! and my mum was sick so we didnt get it fixed. im now 19 and pains have increased and dizzy all the time and blackouts. can you please tell me what you think it might be & whether or not i should make a fuss and force a doctor to find out what is up with me? even my boyfriend & felt my heart heaps after walking and gets very worried but mum dnt listen

  • gensexercises-I have never commented here before, but your post concerned me so much that I had to reply-please, please see a doctor IMMEDIATELY regarding your symptoms,. While there are a variety of issues that could cause symptoms like those you note above, what you report could indeed be associated with abnormalities in your heart's perfusion, electrical activity, or even changes to the heart muscle itself. I would not bother to write if I weren't very concerned-please get help ASAP!

  • @jessd0806 thanks yes my mum and i jsut got medical insurance and am going to see a specialist hopefully, i found out the stuff i was coughing up was lung fluid cause by my ventricular hole in my heart or pulminary stenosis, i found the documents given to us when i was a baby!

Thankyou for your concern, i got to the point where i went to see a doctor and he referred me straight away to a specialist :) fingers crossed!!!!! and thanks again

  • plzplz help me..

I have had heart condition since was born with hole in my heart and i get really bad chest pains and my heart always beats so hard it shakes my body. im real fit but just by walking it beats like i hsould hav been running miles.. these pains feel like a heart attack and also every day i get dizzy. my doctor seemed to think im acting and before a surgery i had last year they took a mini heart scan which they said is ok for finger surgery but when i looked it it was very irregular

  • Thanx for posting! I love your show. You keep keeping it real! Smooth

  • I saw Dr Oz on his show perform heart surgery on a black man. I saw the fat in his heart. Amazing.

  • If I ever have to go through surgery, I want you to be my surgeon. :)

  • damn...check out those BICEPS!! hahaha that's all I could notice about this video!..teehee..dr. oz...hmmm who knew?? HA! ; )

  • they treat surgeons like rockstars...

  • Well, for your information, the surgeon job is highly demanding and difficult...it takes an average of 15 years of intense studies

and a fellowship of 2-3 years to finally be "able" to practice legally surgery.

That's not for everyone, especially if you're not mentally tough enough to see blood/injuries.

The reason why soem people treat surgeons like "rockstars" is because they want to learn more about this job.

  • thank you so much....im gonna be a surgeon...dunno wt in yet?!

  • eww

  • he fact that i have been to this O.R. and assisted an operation of the same kind is sooooo breath-taking to me. just wanted to share the excitement:) thanks Dr. Oz. you rock.
