No Ringo IMO couldn't do what olias does. Carl could if he wished and he could do it in traditional grip which is another dimension of stick work that only aspiring (and most drummers can only aspire in trad mastery) trad drummers can dream of but relate to. But again although I do agree w/koliass' speed in Blasts and bass drum. His single strokes are nothing to write home about. So what else can he employ those skilss at?
Why not lighten up a little and learn to expand your tastes and appreciate other drummers talents. I don't think ringo starr or carl palmer could do what kollias does, and I think if they saw him at work they'd appreciate it too.

I'm not a huge nile fan myself, they have their good tracks, but I think the whole egyptian theme gets tiring after a while.
that said, George kollias speed and accuracy is truly amazing. He can play faster with single kick than most drummers can with double.
As for mike portnoy, he was always a bit dull IMO, and dream theater wreck my head. Jordan rudess keyboard solos and james labries incessant whining are too much. But again, I respect his talents. He is a far better drummer than I.

Back to drumming or in this case non-drumming. Non drumming is what drummers do in metal that translates to nothing useful otherwise in the known universal library of music. Stuck is a realistic term for drummers like George. This is an easy style to fool peoplw with. Why do you think so many drummes w/such little time under their belt can play metal. try meaningful jazz if you think your talented. That should bring some humility in focus.
I don't know about not being useful...metal drummers like Kollias and Roddy are doing for drumming what guys like Schoenberg, Webern, and Stravinsky did for classical music...they explored a different track and ran with it. These guys are the first generation of drummers to drum like this, so let's leave the judging to the younger generation.

No Ringo IMO couldn't do what olias does. Carl could if he wished and he could do it in traditional grip which is another dimension of stick work that only aspiring (and most drummers can only aspire in trad mastery) trad drummers can dream of but relate to. But again although I do agree w/koliass' speed in Blasts and bass drum. His single strokes are nothing to write home about. So what else can he employ those skilss at?

I'm not a huge nile fan myself, they have their good tracks, but I think the whole egyptian theme gets tiring after a while.
that said, George kollias speed and accuracy is truly amazing. He can play faster with single kick than most drummers can with double.
As for mike portnoy, he was always a bit dull IMO, and dream theater wreck my head. Jordan rudess keyboard solos and james labries incessant whining are too much. But again, I respect his talents. He is a far better drummer than I.

Everybody did NOT recognize the Beatles instantly. They were rejected by a few record companies (ex. Decca Records) at first because the rock and roll movement was thought by some to be on its way out. Try knowing what you're talking about before you spout off.
Music is an art. The goal is not to be popular to cater to an audience, but to express oneself. Simple as that.

I studied theory when i first started playing guitar. Regardless of how much you know about harmony this just isn't good harmony. For anybody to link this w/Stravinsky suggests that this music will in time carry the same fondness and importance in music history and culture. But it just wasn't meant to be. And even if I'm wrong , who cares . Very few people like or understand it now or in their lifetime so it ACTUALLY CARRIES NO IMPORTANCE to any contemporary standard.

I don't care how long you've "been in the industry" - If jazz is the only style of drumming you respect, or maybe even comprehend, then you're nothing more than a narrow minded ignorant fool. I've been listening to metal a long time, but I happen to recognize that jazz drummers are some of the most skilled drummers out there. Back to drumming or in this case non-drumming. Non drumming is what drummers do in metal that translates to nothing useful otherwise in the known universal library of music. Stuck is a realistic term for drummers like George. This is an easy style to fool peoplw with. Why do you think so many drummes w/such little time under their belt can play metal. try meaningful jazz if you think your talented. That should bring some humility in focus.
