In my opinion Ratha Kaneer, Nanda and Iruvar will always remain the greatest tamil films. Each one exploring political, ontological and sociological questions in a state where so called super stars spew shit like "vunna yaro pethuaduka yenna yaro pethu yeduka analum nee yum nanum anna thambi da"
arun, I had the same awe.1954 movie and such courageous diaglogue and screen play..many ways I think those periods were much forward then now...How many contemprory directors would have a courage where a movie ends with hero getting his wife married to his close friend...

This was more likely directed at Periyar Maniammai marriage (1949), so I feel. Made into a film in 1954 afters years of being staged as drama.
