    I wish I lived in america ^^

  • Let's switch places, you get my place near San Francisco and I get to rock the UK. *smiles*

  • Sounds like a plan. I live in Cornwall however, and although it is very pretty, you'll be hard pressed to find a decent job =p

  • hilarious

  • You are a born presenter and stand-up comedian! ;-) Did you send this to Seinfeld already? Maybe not because he would be so scared of such competition. ;-) But seriously: I loved it!

  • I gotta give you a C on the actual hack but a definite A+ on the explanation. I laughed my ass off.

  • high five xD

  • Very kool, and smoewhat funny! :):

  • holy shit that was funny as hell!

  • Very nice job!!

  • Thanks! I have another presentation coming up. If it goes well I'll be sure to put up the video. If it doesn't go well... you never saw this comment. *laugh*

  • Lmfao nice one hahahh!:)

  • this dude is just great. loved it.

  • omg i think im in love

  • Haha thats really good!!

  • Hilarious. I love it.

  • Y is it hack day? that had nothing 2 do with hacking all that was going on was code based so it should of been named like code day. Also ur pretty skilled to know how to code, which style were u using, java, script, html?

  • The term "hacking" has changed to mean to do something interesting with anything technical. What I presented was written in actionscript and flash. There was a lot more code written that had to be chopped out when my team mates decided to ditch.

  • Actually, the terms haven't ever changed meaning.

"Hacker" always did mean "someone who codes off-the-cuff by intuition" (e.g. the coder gradually hacks away at the problem, as a lumberjack hacks away at a tree with his axe).

While "cracker" - in the same way that a code breaker "cracks" a code or a bank robber "cracks" a safe - always was the term for "someone who breaks into computer system / software protections".

  • But the popular media confused the terms and has been misreporting "crackers" as "hackers" ever since. They even made a movie with the wrong title (it should have been called "Crackers", not "Hackers").

Fair play to Yahoo, though, they've used the correct terminology here (even though there was a slight possibly it could be misconstrued by the popular media, as to what was really going on there).

For a better appreciation of coder slang, Google for "the Jargon File". :D

  • The got a lot of press calling it "hack day". All the news stations started their story with something like "Usually as a software company you don't want hackers"... heh. Chad Dickerson was seen on the news explaining the meaning of the word to reporters.

  • That was great well done

  • That was funny. "Its amazing, like magic, but its not. Its flash." LMAO!!!!

  • that was funny - and you even made me miss silicon valley-- which is HARD! HA!

  • awesome.

  • You could have cut his mouth a little better, but that's still fucking awesome. XD

  • Goodjob man Maj. Props to you.

  • heaps cool. what exactly is hack day anyway?

  • Oh Mo, you always amaze. Thank you.

  • Saw you on peir 39 and then looked you up and played this for the first time and it was funny, not just once, but it was funny with a group, and it was informative about an event no person would know about in New Zealand with out youtube. Are you going to cover the 2008 elections and look into the character of the candidates please.

  • Ahh, the peir 39 meet up was so much fun.

Haha, Oooo Politics. I would but I get so angry at Politics around here. I'd end up just bashing them instead of being informative. *laugh* Actually that sounds like fun I might try it.

Your comment made me smile! Thank you!

  • I'm sure people like 2600 would love your enthusiasm man. <3, this made my day.

  • *smiles*.

    (Who is 2600?)

  • Ha ha. This kicks ass. You kick ass.

  • lkm

  • What does that mean? *laugh*

  • That is effing hilarious!! That was you? Hey, everyone loved it, right? :P

  • Yeap, that's me. If you go to the CompSci dept at Eastern they all know me. I used to pull pranks all the time on campus.

  • Very Nice...(high five!)

  • dude that was hilarious, look forward to more like it.

  • A cute funny nerd who loves Patrick Stewart as much as I? Not possible. Big fan here.

  • He was the only person who could save me at the moment. So I blinded them with his shiny dome.

  • it's not magic, it's flash. LAWL

  • I was checking some other videos from Yahoo! Hack Day 2006. You forgot to mention that you won the award for best shtick, "best standup comedian". *And* the award for worst hack. Haha! ;)

  • Did I hear a speaker say "that was a stunningly good performance" at the end? Because it surely was! I watched it four times because your comic timing was so perfect and engrossing! Are you a comic? If not, look into that. ;)

  • Hahah, no he said "Stunning peice of technology" and he was being facetious. That was the first time I stood in front of a crowd and did anything like that. Thanks for the kind comment.

  • Hahah, I can't believe that I had a reply *four* minutes after posting! That's a weird coincidence. So that's the first time you're in front of a crowd? You're a natural talent, and if you have the least bit of interest in becoming a comic let me just say that judging by my opinion and all the others that have posted, you can go very far. Just stick to the style you had at this performance. Of course, that's if you try it out. :)

  • Mo, that was absoluely hilarious. That was just what I needed to see while breaking from programming an atMEGA169 to control the speed of a motor for my Microprocessors class.

  • *laugh* Excellent man. I'm glad I got to see you that day I was back on campus.

  • Holy crap, that was hilarious. You totally should have won.

  • *laugh* That would've been glorious. Instead some girls that created a bag with a camera in it won.

  • What?? Lame. I mean, c'mon, you had Patrick Stewart...and you were making him talk! That's easily worth a free TV.

  • welldone. i love it when bravery benifits its bearer. may you benefit from fortune in all your endeavors hence forth.

"thanks patrick stewart, make it so."

  • That was great! I almost forgive you for laughing at that lonelygirl bald lady video now ... almost.

  • What a hack! You're really cute. If you live in the south bay I play in sunnyvale. That hack thing looks fun! I love computer guys.

  • I'm actually north bay, Point Richmond.

  • That was great, hahaha.

  • You're a WINNER. I'm dying, that was hysterical. And I highly approve of your music choice.

  • that was good although I must admit I have no idea what Yahoo Hack Day is and perhaps it would have made a bit more sense if I did - still good though :)

  • It was explained a little in the first 30 seconds by the news clips. Basically Yahoo! called out 500 hackers to their campus to "hack" overnight and then show off their programs the next day. The "hacks" had to use Yahoo's API, so it was basically a way to get smart people to show the interesting stuff that is possible with Yahoo software. There's lots on google, search for Yahoo! Hackday and you should find some stuff. :)

  • and ironically as I went to look at your reply the video started to play again and this time, what they were saying in the 1st 30 seconds made a bit more sense - thx

  • My bad, didn't see that the question was already answered.

  • The song is by The Faint. I think it's called "I Disappear"

  • Totally awesome! I miss yoooou! (This is Jessica from Comp Sci)

  • Just can't get enough of this video.

  • Great stuff, really enjoyed that. ;)

  • Cool!

  • LOOK AT THAT TALENT. I WANT HIM ON NATIONAL TV!!!

    I mean, man he's great.

    "the mugger"

  • lol! That ruled! Great hack! :D

  • That was jokes...

Pretty fucking hilarious man.. you kept the joke going.. thought you were gonna crack

  • I just missed the beginning of this as I had stepped out for a beer, but I got back inside when I heard all the laughter and cheering. Nicely done!

  • Highly entertaining - I regret that I had just stepped out to get a beer when your presentation started, but I hurried back in when I heard all the laughter and cheering. Nicely done!

  • What's the song that plays at the start of the video?

  • I Disappear by The Faint

  • Awesome dude.

  • You were ON FIRE!!!! :: high five! ::

  • That's definitely the Mo I've come to know and love! Hilarious vid my friend, very nice.

  • "This blink ended up being two hours long." Hahah! I have so had that happen. Kudos for presenting anyway. I lauged histerically. This was great, and I had no idea what Hack Day even was until I watched this.

And you used The Faint...you rule.

  • it's amaaazing! no..no...no its not...its just flash

  • High Five!!!!
