"what is truly revolutionary about this song is that it was composed as an audiovisual piece using TV footage as A/V samples. The actual news footage – both audio and video – of Kennedy’s murder was cut-up and re-edited into a piece in which, once you’ve seen and understood the piece, the audio cannot be separated from the video" Michael Heap (The History of VJ)
Very nice tribute to one of the best presidents, the First American Coupe de Etat. The ReichWingers grabbed power then, and we are still in their grip, especially when you see poor Obama struggling.
Oh man, I used to have the vinyl single of this given away with a magazine; the pic in the video suggests it was NME but was sure it wasn't them. Been trying to find out who it was, because I couldn't remember who made it, but trying to search for "The Motorcade Sped On" is the proverbial needle in a haystack for the hits you get back. I can now search for it properly, hurrah!
@YenRug - the original 7 inch was definitely given away with NME and not Record Mirror. I didn't have a copy but a good friend of mine did and I've never forgotten that it was the NME that gave it away. It's only since the digital revolution that I've managed to get my own 'copy'.
I'm so glad that this version is on Youtube, I did have the 'Archives' album and the 'There's Nothing to Fear - A Rough Mix' album, but they both were destroyed by my little brother's terrible CD-care ethics... Crying and weeping ensues, lol.
from NME have the mag still

@YenRug - was the magazine possibly 'Record Mirror'?

@rangusr
That sounds like it could be it; I'm pretty sure it was around '89 when I was briefly stationed in London, which is well after the NME release.

Is the beat the same as the one on Funky Cold Medina?
fendweller 3 years ago
It's actually not, but the rhythm is the same, I believe. I'm pretty sure Steinski whipped up this particular loop though.
Might be the same, but I don't think the cowbells are the same type, obviously not the easiest thing to remember though...

Wow, haven't heard this in a while lol!
Haunting song, used to scare me when I was a kid, still has that creepy sound even today.

You oughta check out Tom Clay's "What the World Needs Now is Love" and try to get through it without weeping.

This is awesome; it was an NME freebie that's now pretty rare, and i haven't heard it since it was first released - in the early 90s?
And isn't it one of THE FIRST pure samples track EVER?
