Fantastic playing Steve, man how I enjoyed this your playing reminds a lot of the great Lenny Breau, used to have a CD always listening in the car when I drove to my work. What chordal voicing and melodic vocabulary you have, really fantastic, thanks for uploading this one, greetings Vic.
I checked out your version of this tune with "Symbiosis"...they're both great. I noticed you using the same/similar intro and ending/outro. Really nice groove happening there.
Steve...I cannot think of enough accolades to reign upon you. I have been an admirer of your playing since the 60s' when I worked opposite you in Atlantic City. .....you are a pure and dedicated musician with NO pretense about it. All musicians should have what you possess..........The music is number one!!......carry on.........
Some really nice, super-subtle ideas and a nice flow. Who needs backing? - if the listener has any imagination they can fill in all that is needed. Your clear harmonic suggestions help of course. Quality playing. That guitar? Is it easy to play?
@martinjp1958 Well, for me it's easy because I've been playing it for over 25 years. It's a great ax. But other people who are used to super low action and light strings have said it's hard to play. So, I guess it's relative. I use Tomastic Bee-Bop gauge, round wound.
Steve,...again, sheer brilliance at its best! You fly through some of these parts.....SWOOSH......but that's Not the beauty of you playing this piece, it's your use of metric modualtion at 2:39? and your sensitive dynamics throughout...and your range from playing the bass line to the rhythm to soloing the melody....to rhythm to bass and back and forth so effortlessly....as if you were breathing! So beautiful!---Thank you for sharing! And Great Hand Shots!!--Perfect!!
I agree with meindzai about a CD---But a CD of what you are playing here in the video...and then a DVD to see what and how you are actually playing,..(and also to see your many faces of agony and ecstacy.....).!!--Loved the ending starting at 5:08 mins...nice!
Steve, you've inspired me to take jazz studies seriously, ever since Lyd first told me about you. Someday, I'll get to the point of asking you for some lessons on guitar. Until then, these videos are a valuable (and generous!) asset. I hope you'll keep 'em coming, & hope to come see you at the Mermaid sometime.
but isn't it better to see what I am playing? (let alone see my faces of agony and ecstasy) ? :) Plus with a CD, I could correct little stupid mistakes. Don't you want the real (in the moment) deal? :)
Steve, very much in the moment...which is where you shine ! .... light, swinging, airy , lush harmonicly and always melodically captivating. It's time for you to do a solo CD of this type of stuff. You're right up there with Pass, Farlow, Hall and Bruno.....maybe even beyond..........
