I think I read somewhere that when Lenin heard the news via a newspaper he thought the paper was a fake! I don't know how reliable that story is though.
@ButherLi55ett I believe that's correct. The about-face of the European Socialist parties, the German SPD especially, took everyone by shock, especially the radicals. It was the final straw signaling the split between Communist and Socialist.
