  • Is it just me... Or is that low E string a bit out of tune? Somehow, he still makes it sound amazing

  • That guitar is soooooo nice.....

  • liked it

but how did i get from metal-core straight to this :L

  • @thevALIANT98 You pressed the awesome button.

  • @ckfootballman i obviously did. hes realy skilled

  • The 6 people who disliked this might not even know what dislike means !!!!

  • the 6 people who disliked this tried to fuse a guitar and a harp together

  • andy mckee is a friend i never met !!!

  • this is mindblowing !!!

  • listening to this makes me feel like im in a heavenly trance, its the perfect stress buster AMAZING :)

  • this video has had more hits than the Michael Hedges song(video) that inspired it, fyi

  • These are more beautiful than any music I listen to these days, This will take my stress away to feel the soul of his Talents. Healing music, forget about rock, heavy metal, rap and pop, this is what I need right here.

  • These are more beautiful than any music I listen to these days, This will take my stress away to feel the soul of his Talents. Healing music

  • WOW. He is really a son of Michael hedges!! :D

  • @dxdet He's actually expanded on his original song, in this version. Incidentally, those that have never heard Michael Hedges might listen to to a few of his albums, which are available on places like Spotify, to find out how brilliant and original he was, and how he inspired Andy McKee.

  • I cried listening to this. No joke. It took me to a place in my mind i've never been before. I had chills go through my whole body. Michael Hedges lives through him. Amazing.

  • @blasttyrant666 Have you met him?

  • when will people grow up and realize that youtube is for people who don't like the music too.

  • I love this song, but aw man that guitar is horribly out of tune :( I'm surprised Andy didn't turn the tuning pegs with his mind after starting to play, after all he can pretty much do everything.

  • @callumfletcher94 Maybe you have a better ear then me man, but that tuning sounds absolutely fine to me.....

  • @JDeeDyer Just listen carefully to the harmonics, it doesn't sound too good to me haha.

  • @callumfletcher94 really am fairly sure thats how its suposed to sound dude.....

  • @JDeeDyer It's supposed to sound in tune damn it! Haha, nevermind xD

  • @JDeeDyer It really isn't, it's supposed to sounds in tune damn it! Haha.

  • -50000 stars here. why he talk like that, he eat a bag of marshmallows?

  • Well done, Andy. Definitely has the Hedges' Aerial Boundaries sound. I had the privilege of seeing Michael about a dozen times from 1984 (as the opening act for Shadowfax) until his untimely (and so unfortunate) death in '97. He was an amazing performer and musician, and seemed to have a very gentle spirit, too. You honor him well. I'm sure Michael would be proud of that.

  • this song can always put me to sleep <3

  • sounds a bit similar to Michael Hedges' song "Because It's There".

    love it

  • how very selfless of you, this song makes me want to do something good for somebody else.

  • I am amazed that the ones who criticize don't realize that no one cares to hear what they say...and how quickly they are forgotten.

  • Very nice my friend

    Love Ur work!

  • I think Andy McKee has earned to mess up a little in his performances, although he rarely does.

  • amazing

  • Damn, thats one sad name on a song.

  • Saw him just under 2 years ago when he toured with Tommy Emmanuel.

    He is the real deal.

  • @thecravenator42069 if its out of tune i would just stop say sorry guys, retune start again ! not just carry on and hope people wouldnt notice.

  • @tiny789 same thing i was thinking lol

  • ....(commentless)

  • Wonderful tribute Andy!

I saw Michael Hedges in Tucson in about 1987 and am sure he is proud of your performances.

    Cheers,

    Victor Banta

  • Great tribute to Hedges! My favorite harp guitar song of his is "Building a memory" from Dreamcatcher.

  • he should have just stopped and re-tuned it.... the audience would have understood... I wouldnt care. Most people who listen to this music have a high level of musical respect

  • this man must have some beastly callouses from playing some masterful beautiful music. he could probably stab a hole of awesomeness through a person with just his index finger alone.

  • he is amazing theres is noone playing like andy mc kee !

  • i know how years of practice and talent

  • How is he hitting those harmonics so easily without a pickup? Especially on the harp part of his guitar... anyone?

  • Harmonic with his forefinger, playing it firmly with his thumb. It's a hard angle to see the technique played properly here.

He also uses some kind of pickup to accent the dynamics... I'm not too clued up, check out some of his interviews to see what I mean. :)

  • he has pickups inside his guitar, on the 6th 4th and 2nd strings near the 22nd frets and he also has a pick up were he hits his hand to make the drum beats

  • Like maganashi said, You should check out tomy emanuels classical gas *live at some radio show*

If you do, you will see how andy does those harmonics, Its a awkward 2 finger tech.

  • Wha? A hammer on?

  • @baseballmike44 talent... skill mabey...

  • I wonder how hes left hand cant get cramped :D

  • Don't get defensive, if hes going to do a live set he should at least get in tune. He probably had a roadie do it anyway

  • the guitars in perfect tune.

the higher you hammer on a guitar its natural to get an out of tune in pitch, (try hammering your 12th fret without a shit sound)

and on the harp guitar the strings vibrate more meaning the sound wave of the pitch has a broader spectrum making a larger range. you can here it in alot of don alders music aswell. its a harp guitar thing

  • @hotamali he tunes it himself right in front of everyone on stage... you didnt see that? all of his songs are in a different tuning anyways so he would have to tune it lol. You fool!

  • anyone notice how his tuning is a little off and so is his timing? No offense to andy, he's one of my favorite players, he just sounds a tad bit off in this clip.

  • i agree, but it's still an amazing tune. It's funny how off-tuning can ruin a whole song...

  • micheal hedges instead of micheal hutchence...btw. you think this song he plays has any similarity to any INXS song? and just besides, hedges died in a car accident...

  • ur a tosser

  • hedges

  • What's the name of that guitar?

  • Harp Guitar

  • I saw him in San Francisco and he said it was called a Harp Guitar.

  • andy just seems like a very calm and nice person he seems the kinda person that would listen to me when i have problems or stuff like that

    such a great man.

  • i know i noticed it too fuck

  • This is what we need for music in diablo3.

  • You say quite something ^^

  • for one..Andy Mckee has been a huge inspiration to me..He seems like such a nice guy and has amazing talent. i would love to sit down and just jam with him

  • I'm a musician...and wow...I totally feel his pain...one of his strings is out of tune :(

  • yeah... :S

  • Yeah, sounds like one of the subbasses...

or maybe it's just the audio...?

  • @thesairj wich string is out?

  • @poopyodb one of the high strings on the bass for sure.

  • not to be a jerk cause i could never play like this in a million years but part of this sounds out of tune

  • Elephantguitar by David Lynch

  • Not a 5 star rating?

    Wow people, just wow.

  • It was a joke; practically all of his videos, live or not, crappy video quality or not, are all rated 5 stars.

Is there any reason not to rate this 5 stars?

  • @jkshoujk when im drunk. Wait i gave him 6 stars when i was drunk...

  • @jkshoujk because you can only like videos now.

  • @jkshoujk

yeah, there is a reason to not rate this 5 stars. youtube taking down the 5 star rating system (curse youtube for that).

  • WOW!!

  • Lost so much weight Andy :O

Thank you for this tribute, and the respect you showed to Michael.

You are a brilliant musician that I respect so very much.

Know that in New Zealand you are always welcome.

    -Joe

  • yeah i didnt care much for this song either when i first heard it (save for the fact that it's a really unique way to play a harp guitar). but once i started listening to the song without watching him play i started "getting" it. it sounds like mourning. it creates an ambience of sadness and regret, like only an andy mckee song can. mckee's criativity and imagination have no limits; give him six extra strings, and he'll make a song that much better.

  • this is not really a unique way to play the harp guitar. listen to because it's there by michael hedges. it's actually very similar. no disrespect to andy.

  • Maybe it has something to do with Andy writing this song in dedication to him.

  • wow what a guitar^^

  • I'm so confused didn't this guy say he wrote the song? Yet everyone including myself things it's andy McKee. Who wrote it anyone wanna clarify for me?

  • this is andy mckee you dumbass, LOL.

  • I thought the same thing when I saw him live, i was like which one is Andy?

  • He doesn't have his LUSH, SEXY BEARD in this video. :D

  • This is Andy McKee, and he said that this song was strongly influenced by Michael Hedges; which it is, it's similar to the song "Because It's There", which was written by Michael Hedges

  • something's still flat!!

  • This is the only Mckee song I don't really care for. For some reason it reminds me of the background music for old Halloween flicks when Michael Myers just got finished hackin' stuff up. Plus the guitar looks like a turkey leg and it makes me hungry!

  • what a stupid remark. this song is very deep and moving. how the instrument looks dont matter. how beautiful an instrument sounds is what an instrument is all about, not what it looks like when your fat ass is hungry.

  • I love Andy's music, and my comment was dripping with satire. Into the Ocean and Gates of Nome are a couple of my favorite tunes both done on harp guitar. So, no I don't care about the "looks" of the guitar either. You have a sharp little tongue buddy.

  • Yes chix dig that guitar. UMM... I wonder why?

  • The master is slightly out of tune. :-) that makes me feel a little better.

  • i noticed that aswell! thought i'd lost my tuning ear! still i guess thats why perhaps i prefer to hear live music, its not mastered or anything just straight forward tunes!

i learnt this sond on 6string and its a great tune to play around with!

    ^_^

  • omg no beard

    =D

  • You should have seen him when he had long hair! :p

Then he cut his locks and all his hair seemed to migrate southward ha ha.

  • I love when he hits the guitar on this video because it makes the coolest ambient sound. god I need to buy an acoustic electric

  • i love

but what is this guitar please i never see something like that

  • harp guitar i think?

  • your right

  • its a dr.suseaphone

  • hmm its nice but too repetitive for me

  • omg

  • Chicks dig that guitar.

  • i dig it too

  • how does he play these crazy but awesome songs standing up....so amazing

  • perfectly done as in his lovely albums . i saw him in montreal quebec :) like few days ago :D awesome song very relaxing

  • andy mckee ftw

  • its a really beautiful and inspiring piece. i really love it.

  • Truly inspiring. thank you for this!
