@metafis My name is Dave Egan, I was tossed in the "juvie" (juvenile home) when I was
14. I gave my ticket to my Bro, Dave Diener he went to the show I didn't. His friend, Dan McCraken, did a bunch of reds an puked all over the place... Meanwhile, I'm still thinkin......
Varsity Stadium Toronto - about 1973. Anybody else remember that party? I was 12 or 13 but rockin into the 70's full steam ahead..... GFR with The Lee Michaels Band. My buddies and I met Don Brewer and Craig Frost walking down Yonge St. the day of the show. Brewer was trying to decipher the habs logo on my Canadians sweater (Go Leafs!). Later... front row for the general admission show. Another boring "was there" story but...... "was there!"
Don Brewer is the reason I became a drummer when I was 9. I have been playing professionally for 40 years. This music still moves me to this day. Too bad they couldnt get along personnally because they all still play well. Mark Farner still sounds great. How about a reunion concert.
@mopardude6969 thanks for posting GFR...Fantastic band. FYI...I"m restoring a 1968 Dart GT convertible with a SUPERCHARGED 360 bored to 409 with 667 HP.,the engine was built by "BIG AL"s TOYBOX",it"s painted the 2010 plum crazy purple. The top of the engine is almost the same height as the conv. top. Cars gonna be insane just like GFR when its finished in about 5 months.
GRAND FUNK WERE ONE OF THE GREATS...STILL REMEMBER PRETENDING TO HAVE A GUITAR USE MY PRETEND WAH, WAH PEDAL TOO! MAN THERE WAS SOOO MUCH ENERGY IN THEIR MUSIC...LOVE MEL'S BASS PLAYING AND FARNER'S SIMPLY, BUT AWESOME LEADS AND LETS NOT FORGET DON'S DRIVING BEAT!! I SAW THEM IN SOUTH BEND AND THEY WERE NOTHING SHORT OF EXCELLENT!
today... is a turning point for my ears.....this song has changed the way I make music... this band has changed the way i will always make music!!!! thankss for sharing it!!! greeting from Bogota, Colombiaa.... not Columbiaa... Colombia.. South of the south!!
hey GFR fans, I'm an 80's kid and am just discovering the awesomeness of GFR - 1st heard about them through Homer Simpson, believe it or not! So I just wanted to send out much love to the band, to the fans & to the people who upload their music to youtube. Stay beautiful.
when i first heard this band i was maybe 15 1970 that was it i,m 56 now and even though the 8tracks are long gone i still have some albums and many cd,s oh and there BOSNIA TOUR BOX SET
Not my favorite band, but they definately put out their share of good songs: Footstompin Music, Creeping, Flight of the Pheonix, Inside Looking out, Black Licorice (for the organ solo), The Rairoad, Mean Mistreater, Time Machine, Rock and Roll Soul ... I'll stop at ten (including this one).
I was lucky MoparDude, it's the first band I ever saw live ... first time I ever saw a roach, too, lol. They broke up not too long afterwards.
@EagleMedieval PS: Creeping (off the 'We're an American Band' album) would be a good idea for a video right now, using images related to the oil spill and/or news from the Middle East. I was watching 'Freedom' by Alice Cooper while ago, and thought that would make a good theme song for the Libyan Rebels, too, lol.
@EagleMedieval I'm actually editing Creepin and have included a lot of what you mentioned. I didn't post it yet but there are tons of GFR videos on my channel

I was a sophomore in HS when this was recorded.
And...I handled the percussion in a power trio.
We never covered a tune or attempted writing of originals.
We would just jam, for hours. All improv.
I'm not sure, but I think we may have actually levitated on occassion.
Anyway...I loved GFR, back in the day.
