  • did anyone notice what it looked like at 2:12 through 2:19 ?

  • This dude is hilarious.

  • you sign I wrong!! pointing yourself is the sign for me. this vidio is not something to learn from people.

  • I'm from Decatur game

  • DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS GUY! HE IS WRONG!

with all do respect, you are wrong guy.

  • So, I see in the comments people say that you aren't supposed to use "little" words in ASL. If I do use them ,and sign like I talk/write/think in English, is it actually incorrect?

  • Thank you so much for teaching!

  • You're really cute look me up on FB sometime Karyssa Elizabeth <3 i'd like to be frannns (:

  • So is this real sign language

  • Cutec:

  • Www

  • Hello im Hard of hearing i can speak perfect i had recently lost my hearing my right ear so yes but ive learned asl since i was 10 an im 13 so ya

im taking being hard of hearing one step at a time

  • this soo cool i always wanted to learn the sign language now i am thanks ^_^

  • decatur where? Illinois? georgia?

  • BUT WHERE CAN I LEARN CORRECT ASL?????

  • @ben909b some high schools ofer it and colleges. your better off learning english sign lang. but asl is nice to know also.

  • in "them" can i point to the other side?

  • how do u do "that"??

  • @KrayzeeLife Make a 'Y' handshape, and point the palm, facing down. Just like if you were to slam the table with your open hand, but with a 'Y' handshape, instead. :] Hope that helps.

  • Make sure you be careful, because some of the things you are signing are see signs, not ASL.

  • @TheTarynElise That's what I thought. I never learned the sign for 'am' or 'is, but then I realized that that's English, not ASL.

  • @EwwwJermss Yeah if you learn ASL YOu probably will never learn them. See sign is basically for children that were born deaf, so that they know how to form proper sentence structure for writing. I learned sign from a deaf person, and he doesn't sign see, and doesn't like it when people do.

  • @TheTarynElise Yeah. I'm currently in ASL 3, and I never learned those signs. I'm minoring in ASL Interpreting too, but I still have A LOT to learn. Most of the Deaf people that I interact with don't mind SEE, and I hate to admit, but that's often the grammar structure that I follow. I'm slowly shying away from it, though, and steering towards the ASL grammar structure.

  • @EwwwJermss I have actually never taken a class so all of the sentence structure and every sign that I know is from my deaf friend, and another friend that took tons of class. I also have PLENTY to learn myself, but honestly, it is easier to sign using ASL structure rather than trying to make english sentences!!

  • @TheTarynElise Oh, I see. And you're somewhat right. It's easier because some of the 'little' words that we have in English aren't translated into ASL, so there're are shortcuts. But at the same time, it's a little difficult utilizing ASL grammar because we're just so used to English. Well, for me, anyways.

  • @EwwwJermss Yeah I totally see where you're coming from. Is there a specific reason why you're learning ASL? Or just for fun?

  • @TheTarynElise At first, I decided to take ASL because out of the list of languages that're transferable to universities, that specific one peaked my interest. When I actually got into it, I was becoming more driven by passion for the language and Deaf culture, than just transferable credit. My major is biology, but since I got into ASL, I decided to minor in interpreting. :]

  • @EwwwJermss That's really interesting! I first learned because of my friend, and then we went to prom together when I was in high school, but it is always something that has interested me and I, too love deaf culture and think it is important to not try and push the hearing world onto deaf people, but to try and understand their world. I started off majoring in Biology as well, but have been thinking about changing my major.. Although I'm just a freshman I have time to decide!

  • @TheTarynElise Yeah! It bothers me to review the history of Deaf culture, seeing how our Hearing society tried to 'force' themselves onto the Deaf community. It's appalling, to be honest. We should try to enter their world, not the other way around. If you're thinking about changing your major, then you answered your own question. Majors are supposed to be our main focus, often something that we're greatly interested in. If you second guess yourself, then the major isn't right for you.

  • @EwwwJermss Yeah you're right!! Thanks!! I totally agree!! Yeah that makes sense... I should really look into what I can do to change my major..

  • Great job!!!

  • This was pretty awesome! I like your teaching style- makes things really easy to remember! I'm a Sp.Ed. teacher and I'd love to learn more sign. I shall be following your videos :)

  • Thanks dude!

  • thats so cool that u live in decatur! me and my sis live in athens AL a couple min . away and we've been working on learning asl ! thanks for posting this vid. very helpful!

  • For the word "is," when you begin at your chin and then move it toward the other person, are you supposed to use your pinky finger or index finger?

  • Thank you for being clear and fluent. And also for offering a cluster of words that are related; I've seen tutorials that offer words from five different categories and it makes it harder to tie things together.

  • "Like just shut your mouth" Lls

  • Im putting my hand in yo face.. get over it!!! ;D lol

  • NO WAY!!! I used to live in Huntsville! Anyway, good job teaching ASL. I've never realized there was a sign for am. I just I've never used it. LoL

  • u are hott!!!!

  • @legs1993

It's your dominant hand but if you are ambidextrous you pick a hand and stick with it. Hope that helps :)

  • my left hand is the dominant one. does it matter which hand i use?

  • @legs1993 No, it does not as long as you follow the general rules of ASL. Like finger spelling for example, should be done close to the body I've learned and palm facing out and stuff of the sort.

  • This is excellent. Many thanks.

  • this really works i have only been doing this for a couple of days and i know how to do sentenses !! yaaaaay!!!!!!!

  • Rep Alabama! haha.

  • ASL is my primary language, and you signed for am and live are incorrect. In ASL, you don't use articles such as a, an and the. Also you don't use am, are and is. For example, in English you say "I am going to the mall now." but in ASL, the structures are different- "mall I go to." this can be confusing, but if you want to learn ASL, don't learn from YouTube! Take ASL class!!

  • @MrSpyro2014 in my collage courses we learn am, as a as and the. We Dont use it often but its still good to know.

  • @xXxBlackRainbowzxXx not tryin to be a dick but does your COLLEGE offer a spelling class?

  • @yukonrott If you mean english yes and i apologize for the spelling college wrong, but i dont understand how your TRYING to tell me that im bad at spelling when you can't really handle spelling such a simple word? :)

  • @xXxBlackRainbowzxXx actually im a great speller.. i choose to shorten words a little bit and i get that from texting on my phone i shorten words...hmmm the letter your referring to is the letter g. yes im well aware that i left it off.

  • @yukonrott I know exactly what letter i was referring to and i'm well aware that i sometimes spell college wrong but that shouldn't really have given you the right to act like a dick now did it? Don't critize other people's spelling when you don't even spell words right when you know your spelling them wrong.

  • @MrSpyro2014 Good explanation!! hahh totally correct!!

  • This is awesome! nice job!

  • Hey guys I really want to thank you for all these videos. My girlfriend is deaf and even before we started going out I was learning from these. You're work, even if its not professional, has really helped in our communication. I will make one little addition to this video as maybe it works for other people. I asked her about the sign for "am" and apparently you can also do it like the sign for not (thumb under chin > then forward like in "mom") but instead you put the thumb on your lips->out

  • Great vid!

Very cool, short, and explained really well.

    Thanks!

  • Great video will make use of this video with the kids

  • I'm from Decatur too! as you were saying it I was finishing the sentence by saying Decatur and was like WHOA!

  • Wait, Decatur, Texas? I have some family that lives there, around the Boyd area.

    ~

    Anyways, thanks for the vid!

  • Ok, I just watched your video, and I have a few problems with it. Before I respond to it I must say one thing. Sign Language is a great language and its not easy to learn with the many generalized assumptions and people with a lack of knowledge of ASL (American Sign Language) floating around.

I understand this is youtube and you may be using it as a learning tool to get feedback etc. Just out of curiosity, what sources did you use for the signs and secondly are you using books or videos?

  • lesson reviewed 28 Dec 2011 starplayerr

  • I lost my voice over 6 months ago.. the doctors dont know why yet but thanks to these videos I can sort of get my voice back but only in signing.. ty =>

  • thank u do u know how long i've been searching for "is" or any of those words thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • And also @ everyone who keeps saying he is doing it wrong becuz ASL is different. He did not say he was doing ASL. There are 3 different types of sign. Signed english which is signing everything and adding all the endings, Pidgin sign which is signing words like happily and only signing happy. ASL is wat all of u stupid people keep thinking he is signing wrong. He is only learning right now. He is learning Pidgin sign and yes i am only in Pidgin sign but i am not stupid. They were mainly correct

  • Alot of the signs are close to the accual signs. "I" would be an I to your chest... pointing to yourself is me. "Am" is an A Starting at your lips and pulled out from them. "From" is just wat u did but all you do different is u put the X to your index finger and pull it away alittle bit. "Is" is an I starting at your chin and and pulled out alittle bit. Ik u said at the begining not to take u seriously but i just thought i would be kind and let you kno how i learned it oin signlanguage class :)

  • You never use "Am" or "In" in ASL. And the phrase "I AM FROM" Is incorrect. You would say "ME LIVE" or "ME d1BORN d2GROW-UP" The sign for "live" is also incorrect. Remember English and ASL are far different. Most ASL sentences sound incomplete compared to English. It takes a lot of time and practice to master the language. I would also suggest that you sign the whole video or use subtitles at the bottom of your videos. Seeing as it's ASL 101. The only way to learn and practice is to sign only.

  • sooo difffrent

  • Also couple of things becareful with your hand, I agree it did felt as your hand was in the face and the finger, also try to work on your experssion and body langauge cause that the main part of ASL, I'm sure you are trying but letting you know, I am sure you will make it one day!

  • @MyMissy2000 i understand i know these videos are far from perfect. i am still a student and i know so much more now after having learned more over the past year.

  • What state are you from? Cause some of the sign I never seen, I'm deaf and couldn't understand what you were saying except when you trying to sign, I can't see ASL all the way maybe few words out of you, I am strong ASL yet like I said maybe you are from another state that I can understand as every state has own sign.

  • hey thanks for posting this! me and my friend learned "Teenage Dream" from your tutorial. You're awesome! Keep posting!

  • Be careful when doing from. If you have you fingered hooked around your other finger it means you are taking off a condom. Other than that you guys are doing great.

  • Can you guys do one of the verbs of being?

  • I learned to say my name is jada today..!!

  • wait is this asl or english?

  • Alabama.... I know nothing about it. Except it's near Mississipi.

    Oh! Montgomery! Now I remember!

  • No like shut your mouth xD

  • Comment removed

  • Please meet Deaf people. =) You are doing great. Keep at it. Some of your signs need correcting, though. You will be a great ASL teacher someday. But please don't try to learn from a book or even videos. These are all helpful tools, but the real language experiences are with real Deaf people in real situations. You will not regret it. Do yourself a favor (if you aren't already, of course). I know for a fact that there are some Deaf in or at least near Decatur in the Huntsville and Madison areas.

  • Haha ! You're adorablee ! Like Hey Don't put your hand on my face. Kaay, thaanks for posting thiss ! :D

  • Sign English! Not ASL Thanks

  • Thank you i lovee guy <3

  • I love your videos :) thank you

  • Oh I so badly wanted to give you a high-five.

  • What's up with the being verbs?

  • lol ur comedy helps me remember thanks

  • is this american sign language (ASL)?

  • @ktkill yes

  • @alegitproduction thanks! =) and just to make sure, all your videos are ASL, right?

  • @ktkill yes but be aware that the vocabulary is only part of asl, sentence structure and other things effect whether you are speaking ASL PSE of SEE. if you dont know what that means look at our "types of sign language" video

  • Hey! Don't put your hand in my face :c

    Thanks for posting this :)

  • @Jimcrv no problemXD

  • @SignLanguage101 Good job on the video, i like your comments on the words...it helps me remember a lot more lol
