In Touhou Project, there is a mansion -- the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Sakuya Izayoi, the knife-thrower, is head maid there.

Hong Meirin (the dodging one) is the door guard, and nicknamed China (which she doesn't like, because it's used only because NOBODY REMEMBERS HER NAME).

Sometimes she fails to repulse an intruder, in which case she's punished by Sakuya -- hence this game.

Since people in Japan had difficulty remember her name (since Hong Meirin is a Chinese name), they gave her the nickname "Chuugoku", which literally means China. Hong Meirin is also known as "the punching bag of the Scarlet Devil Mansion" (TouhouWiki) and is often portrayed in doujinshi being impaled by Sakuya's knives, hence the theme of this game.
