  • i say they shouldent pass this law and have that every primate exotic animal owner to get a permit and the federal gove.. or vet or what ever u want to call it have liker inspections like pop up inspections to see how the primate its needs and housing and if they dont meet needs monkey gets token away and NOT A STUPID LAW use my thought BECAUSE WE ALL LOVE MONKEYS AS PETS

  • R.I.P Mikey,

    R.I.P Chico,

    R.I.P Sampson.

Killed for just being who you are

  • I heard about what happened but I didn't know they killed him. Last I heard they were trying to send him to the sanctuary at Born Free because they can test without killing them. That is a real shame. Thank you for your comment.

  • "The Jane Goodall Institute is dedicated to ensuring that captive

primates receive the attention and care they deserve. The Captive

Primate Safety Act promotes public health and safety, as well as

taking a reasonable and sound step toward protecting these amazing

wild creatures, which is why we fully support this legislation," - Jane Goodall

  • Someone commented and said that the domestication process has to start somewhere. I thought I had hit approve but I don't see it so I might have hit delete by mistake. Whoever you are you are free to try and comment again. In response to that however I am strongly against the abuse many primates go through because people are attempted to domesticate them. I do not beleive it is our rigth to try and domesticate them at the expense of their overall well-being and happiness.

  • What a sad day it will be when everything is "domesticted" and nothing is wild. I also believe it is irreponsibe to try and domesticate other animals when we don't have enough homes for the ones we have already domesticated.

  • In making a video about cruelty towards any animal; it would be totally pointless by not showing the truth of why you think it is cruel. Anyone who cares for these creatures would not want to see them suffer.

  • why do you only show pictures of "pet" monkeys in small cages not being cared for. When there are thousands of us out there that have a Hugh cages and give great care to our monkeys! I think if you are going to be fair and unbiased, You need to show the other side of it too. Because showing ALL of them like this sways the "voters" opinion before they make up there own minds about, especially when the "voter" has no prior experience with primates.

  • Thank you for your comments. Believe it or not, that was not me trying to "sway" votes but those are the pictures that I could find. Also as I explained in the video no cage will compete with what they would have in the wild.

  • Leanna8279..

You are one of those people who put clothing monkey. Are you??? Monkeys have fur and I am sure your monkey has a stuffed animal for comfort and probably sucks it's thumb right?

Don't try to use the argument about dogs and cats. Weak Argument!

I have a question. How you would like it if someone took YOUR NEWBORN baby screaming out of your arms and gave your baby to a Gorilla to raise? Yeah!! The BABY MONKEY WANTS ITS REAL MOMMY NOT YOU!! GET OVER YOURSELF!

    Great video allysia!

  • Yes i put clothes on my monkeys. And so what if they HAVE FUR. do you run around trying to keep clothes off dogs and cats too. IF NOT THEN GET OFF MY ASS. As far as someone takeing my newborn. THIS IS NOT A HUMAN CHILD ITS A MONKEY. PEROID..... NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING THE SAME THING. And YES they have stuffed animals for comfort. SO DOES MY TWO YEAR OLD SON. he sleeps with it ever night too. SO????? what is your point???

  • Actually primates have hair not fur. Chimpanzees share 98% of our DNA, primates are said to have the intelligence of a 5 yr old. They form strong lifelong bond to their kin. A primate mother will bond just as much as you have bonded to your son. So, it is pretty close to being the same thing.

  • maybe close BUT not the same. I didnt come on here to start trouble. I ask a question and got attacked. SO ive said my peace ill be moveing on. I would like to say thanks to YOU because even if we dont have the same point of view you have showed me more respect the most have. So thanks

  • I appreciate your comment. Thank you.

  • Adding comment will be disabled for the rest of the day. When comments are enabled again i just ask if people comment once, say your are for it or not for it and why and then move on. This is a very sensitive subject and i don't want anyone disrespected .

  • Time out! Lets agree not to attack people. I did not make this video in order to attack primate owners, I believe that these animals need better laws protecting them in captivity. Please do not gang up on xeileen. I think we can all agree that everyone here cares about the primates, so in THEIR best interest let's try and find some common ground.

  • I really don't believe people get these animals because they wnat to save the species. People get these animals because they think they are cool. And there are things known as SSP Programs that are already breeding animal in professional care in case wild populations of species go extinct. I don't think conservation is a valid excuse for housing intelligent creatures like primates in cages in peoples living room and porches.

  • Sorry you have so many haters that are so incompetent that they don't see how successful this act would be. Primates deserve HR2964 to be passed!

    5/5 and favorited, awesome video!

  • I agree with allysia02. I had always thought I wanted a monkey before i found out more about them and what they can go through living in captivity.

  • Most primatologist and animal behaviorist have concluded that primates do not make suitable pets. The part that makes me sad is the fact that these animals are removed from their mothers just after birth. But anyways this bill does not ban private ownership, I think it is still good becaue these animals are so intelligent, they deserve a litle more respect than what they are getting right now.

  • Yes they are removed from their mothers, but so are ALL pets, domestic and exotic.

  • however, primate form stronger bonds with their mothers than other creatures. They are dependent upon their mothers for up to eight years.

  • I am a monkey owner & know hundreds of owners. NONE use shock treatment or abuse them. Videos like this only show the negative to sway poeple to vote for these legislations which lead only lead to the EXTICTION of these magnifcent creatures. Their "wild" habitats are decreasingat an alarming rate. Would you rather these animals loved and afforded the best care in captivity, or extinct. US doesn't allow inmport for pets so they are bred here and contribute to the survival of the species.

  • well this is youtube unfortunately, so we are both entitled to our own opinions. And i'm glad that none of the people you know use shock treatments but some do. As for afforded the best care, the best care, in my opinion, is professional care. Experts agree that captivity causes primates unecessary stress and many self-mutilate,pull out their hair and rock back and forth continuously. Captivity is a form of abuse when it comes to primates.

  • Many owners have to give up their monkeys because they become too agressive and too messy to handle. Just ask any primate sanctuary how many animals they have to turn down a year and in what conditions they arrive in. This bill does not ban private ownership it just means that people can't put primates in boxes and ship them all over the U.S. Forcing people to find local breeders so animals don't have to be shipped like cargo soundslike an improvement to me.

  • Saying that this bill will cause the extinction of the species is a scare tatic monkey breeders like to make. However the Wildlife Safety Act was passed successfully without the extinction of any animals, and this act is just the primate version of this. The video acknowledges that it is illegal to import primates into the U.S However I believe regardless of the source it sends a message that primates make good pets, which many primatologist disagree with.

  • Extinction won't happen over night. I don't refer to only primates. AR groups want ALL animals in the wild. Tigers for example have about 2-3,000 left in the wild. They are killed by locals for food, & their land is being encroached upon=killed by humans for fear of being attacked. If there are no tigers in captivity they WILL be extinct. NOT in 1 yr or even 15 maybe, but you can count on it. If you find a way to stop humans in 3rd world countries from encroaching I will support your plan 100%.

  • Yes and did you know a very vocal organization advocating responsible exotic ownership also encourages the lift of the ban in the trade of tiger parts. Can you explain that to me?

  • CPSA would prohibit ALL movement. If I wanted to move to another state with my primates I can't. Many current owners must travel to other states for veterinary care, & would no longer be able to. The only people this bill will punish are responsible owners who follow the law. Those who don't will continue to engage in illegal activity. If the law was to not ship baby monkeys, I would not disagree. But as is it will only affect our ability to properly care for our primates.

  • but the fact that its hard to find veterinarian care is because they don't make good pets.

  • Maybe, But it could also be that there aren't as many primate pets, so it is not as lucrative to specialize in themm as is dogs/cats. I don't think that anyone should rush out and buy a monkey. What I am saying is that it IS possible to keep monkeys happy and healthy in the private sector. I own 2 adults so I know firsthand what it takes, and have been around tons of others who are extremely happy. If a person has the passion to provide excellent care I support it.

  • Above comment posted in refernce to the lack of vets in the field by HowlingWild

  • dogs and cats have been domesticed for thousand of years nad have adpted to living in a human environment.Primates have not.

  • Have you seen this for yourself, or just on videos produced by animal rights groups. I agree that SHOULD have your opinion. I agree that there are people who abuse animals, not just primates. Yes they require special care, but for those of us who choose to care for them it is a labor of love. In an ideal world all these animals would remain in the wild, but the fact is their habitats are being depleted. They will become extinct. If I could stop those in other countries from destroying I would.

  • I have spoken to many experts and primate sanctuaries about the subject. I have seen primates that have self mutilated themselves because of living in captivity. Captivity of an animal that shows obvious signs of stress from being in captivity is obviously not the answer to saving the species. We could send so much more resources to helping save their habitat if we didn't use resources to care for unwanted pet primates here.

  • I strongly support fair laws of primate ownership. They aren't for everyone. But that does not mean they can't be happy in captivity. I do believe that there should be fair regulation & require experience before acquiring one. If the FWC actually checked on people there might not be such a big problem of abuse. No one has ever come to my home to check my enclosure, although I would invite any govt official to come see. I am not a primatologist, but I do provide excellent care.

  • this is so sad! great video!

  • thanks for watching

  • Allysia; this is a wonderful video and tells a very sad story! We need to look more to our wild life before it is too late! I hope you get your wish and can help set these unhappy souls free!!
