Nice shooting. Can you explain your setup? I saw the rope from the surface float, but where is it attached to? Was your gun attached to something as well?
I'm planning on getting into spearfishing, I bowhunt, Bowfish, etc.. now I wanna try this. I live in NJ, but the most Northern tip of the State, in Sussex County. We have LOADS OF Carp up here, walleye, pickeral, hybrid stripers, etc.
Nice vid mate, if i were you id get a pair of neoprene gloves so you don't get blisters or stings from the spear rubber and jellyfish. Plus if you have some gloves you can hold the rubber down for longer leaving you more alert and ready to smash those stripers right through the skull, good on ya.
i just ordered an aaron crist polespear (heavy duty) and am planning to try it out in some of the lakes in arkansas. the lakes there are stocked with stripers, walleye, and catfish. by your experience do you think a slip tip would be necessary for stripers? Or would a single flopper be enough?
ionature, did you put in comments on a pole spear, spear gun, hawaiian sling forum. your from new jersey. did you talk with an australian named fitzy?
Spearfishing Striped Bass is legal in New Jersey. At first I thought this was some knucklehead spearing a Striper with a pole spear but after watching it, I can see he is quite experienced. I would not suggest anyone doing this due to the simple fact that it is too easy to loose a fish like this on a pole spear. Kids, if you want to get into spearfishing, don't do it to be cool, do it because you want to eat the fish and experience the hunt while learning to respecting the ocean.
You need to make sure that you really pay attention to your area guidelines. In Massachusetts a striper needs to be 28 inches in length to be a keeper. In fact i think that it is not allowed to spear stripers in MA. Even so, it is pretty tough to tell underwater what is legal and what isn't. Everything is 20% larger looking underwater.

I dont want to rain on your parade. But my experience has shown me that spear fishing for game fish is the begining of the end. Everyplace it has started they wiped them out from greed. In 5 years from now your fishing spots will all be empty. Such is the nature of this sport.
I guess it depends on where your doing this but I don't know if I would want to leave blood in the water around where I'm diving, might attract some unwanted attention. SSSHHHARRRKKK!!!!!
Nice video. I use a 7 foot JBL pole spear. I went last week at the Longport NJ jetty. Unfortunately the current and waves were insane so it was was not a fun time.
Can't wait to see more of your spearfishing videos.
is it legal to spear gamefish in NJ? We cant shoot gamefish with a bow from the surface , why is underwater legal? And it looked too short... other then that it was a great video, made me wanna try it tomorrow:)
Yes it is legal. I don't know anything about surface fishing with a bow. I have heard of people doing that. Anyway NJ is very friendly to underwater fishermen (and women...lol).
I spearfish this bridge to i see a lot of fluke there
