I guess people take this film too much seriously. It was pure spoof on War and it worked. I love this movie very much. Steven Spielberg still never disappoints me. Also it was nice to see young Nancy Allen (Philadelphia Experiment, RoboCop trilogy). She was awesome. The same with other actors - Dan Aykroyd, Ned Beatty, Tim Matheson, John Belushi, Lorraine Gary, Treat Williams, Toshiro Mifune, Wendie Jo Sperber.......
Hysterical. Saw one of those fly for real at Geneseo Warplane Museum in WNY; unfortunately they cracked it up in the mid 90's; bad fuel? Spielberg et al was probly too smart to run pump gas through a V-12 Allison expecting 100 octane.
Not exactly: the P-40 model of the Flying Tigers (or AVG -American Volunteer Group) was older (though in this movie they pretend this P-40 to be one of such model); and they wore Chinese insignia, while this one bears US markings.
I´m not sure. This film is supposed to be settled few days after Pearl Harbor, in Dec 1941, but the AVG was active and fighting at that same time (it disappeared in March 1942). In other words, I find it chronologically unlikely, since nobody can be in two (or more) places at the same time... unless WBK abandoned the AVG or was fired from it soon enough to turn an US pilot and find him flying over the Grand Cannyon (and Hollywood) while the AVG was fighting in China... A bit messy, I know.
You should have added the scene where Warren Oates says "Let me hear your guns,I wanna hear what they sound like.YAK!YAK!YAK!"Then he shoots the hell outta that base.LOL!
Lol yeah, that scene is damn nice!!! But Belushi´s charcter is so fuckin awsome: I bet he´d beat the crap outta the whole jap airforce all alone if he´d got enough ammo ;-)
crazy son of a bitch. look to heven and say howe many moore are up thier??????1 cuz only one john...see u on da other side..p.s thanks for the laught,s

My personal theory about Wild Bill Kelso is that he's a war scarred former Flying Tiger, recently recruited into the USAAF.
