In Alaska my cocker spanial used to chase the bears down the beach and off the property. Unfortunely, he did get bit once. Nasty deep puncher wounds, but it didn't slow him down. He had a special bear bark that alerted the neighbors to watch their smoke houses. He was the best bear dog. Moved to town and he was hit by a car within 2 years. Alot of spunk for a little dog!

People need to understand that it seems cruel to chase a young cub away or be mean to it but thats the only way it will learn not to come near humans. Eventually that cub wont be so small and cute and will be hungry. If it never learns to stay away from humans it might return to your house on a sunny day with the kids outside playing and then it wont seem so cruel when they have to kill it right. There wild animals that cant be reasoned with and they will get over being chased away

Black Bears dont get up to a ton they get up to about 900 pounds cause i have bear hunted all my life and the biggest ive seen was 650 so i dont no if the get to 900 or not but they cant way 2,000 lbs

Black bear's defensive strategy is to climb up a tree. Grizzely's is to maim or kill you and then walk away. Polar bear has or needs no defensive against humans, we are prey to them. Humans, withoud guns, are prey animals, far below the top of the food chain.

depends on the size. I saw a small one in a circus that was no more than 5' standing on it's hind legs. Being significantly taller myself, it didn't seem intimidating at all. It was probably a small female, in the low 100lb range. So a bear like that, yes I think I would wreck it.

Up here in Maine You can actually pet them. They are wicked tame around the cities and many rural area's. I live outside of Augusta and We had a small female Black bear hanging around the back yard. I went out with a donut, put it on the ground, And She let me pet her while She ate it. I actually still have it on video, Unfortunately it is a stupid VHS or i would have that sucker posted. Actually, you're not supposed to get near bears like that. It teaches them that humans are a source of food. If they go up to a child and they get no food, and if they're hungry enough, they might see him/her as food. They'll start to show no fear of humans. You know what I mean.

We did call the fish and game. That is what we call them. We live 8 miles out of a little town of 400 on the rocky mountain front. The dog got out of the house by accident. The bear was caught in a cgae a relocated to the mountains. So try not to assume anything my friend.

Well, I have to explain this again. We did not want my dog sharky to get out of the house. He squeezed threw the door. Also a bear biologist came and set a trap. The bear was caught and relocated. Also your assumtion was wrong just like ours was. We thought it was a cub and the mom was around somewhere. It turns out that is was a yearling and not with the mother. Thanks for the comment.
