  • Does he remind anyone else of Robin Williams ?.

  • What a humble man. It's truly wonderful to see someone who does not get inflated by money and recognition.

  • Is there anything like this for Biology? Great video btw!

  • @VigoJoeJoe: biology can be "reduced" (rather: led back) to chemistry while chemistry can be "reduced" to physics which again can be reduced to maths - so rather do basic geometry and calculus instead of brabbeling on and on.

  • anyone see a resemblance to robert deniro or robin williams?

  • Nice swiss-german accent, he is very humble and didn't get spoiled by the fame, that's what makes him very sympathetic.

  • @frohman101 i like accents too but i was about to trow up in the 5th minut "khhhh aand khhhh and khhhhhh"

  • theres a saying that I was told quite a while ago. And I stick by it today...

"A sentence from an experienced person is more powerful than an entire book of *facts*"

  • What a wonderful, down to earth man, with quite a sense of humour. Thanks for posting this interview!

  • i'd kill for a nobel peace prize

  • @ryanazarko i dont think thats how you get it

  • @babajan97 so that's what i've been doing wrong.

  • @ryanazarko That's a bit counter-productive!

  • Super addictive... All these years of watching Youtube, this is my first comment... =D

  • @keiichi352 Great to hear from you! Honoured by your first comment!

  • @keiichi352

    You should have written "FURST!!!!111!!1!!"

  • Haha... his wife... hard woman to please... :D

  • At the end I thought he picked up his wedding ring from the table and ate it!

  • @Malithion2001 Well, that's one thing you could try with a Nobel Prize.

  • What is the professor of this channel's Raison-Detra?

  • "Is there anything the Nobel Laureates have in common." (Brady)

    Answer: Yes, a Nobel Prize.

Come on man, this is like easy mode.

  • "nothing special about Nobel laureates"?

Damn, the man may be brilliant but he is wrong about that.

Real scientist are amongst the few redeemers of the Human race. He redeems your sickening existence. Seems rather special to me.

Although the Nobel has become more political and less "scientific".

  • Great comment at about 3:06 "The more honest the more serious person are normally the females. Males are just playboys." My wife tells me this all the time.

  • what's it like to win a Noob Prize?

  • God Bless you periodic videos. God Bless you for bringing this enrichment into our lives.

  • "It's important to admit that one makes errors." Love it.

  • Poor Soul

Like a little white mouse being fed some cheese for turning lead into gold.

Dont feel bad.. happens to us all .. but only 1 once....

"Devils Edvicot" - "Venity .... its my favorate sin!:)"

PS: 8:08min in - the young girl with open blouse Goodness what a reck ... 8:55min in .. OH BOY! groopies

  • white or black ... they all falter under venities call...some sooner then others

PSS: HE WILL FIND YOU .. no matter wher you may be

"THE PLANE DID NOT BUT I DID!" ... i bet he dont eat beef now:)

  • 8:06 =DDDDDDDDDD

  • This has to have been the most honest sounding interview ive ever heard given my limited knowledge of who Professor Ernst is. He gives off the impression of a very well spoken and a well thought individual. But more than that, he seems like a real person, and if theres any honesty in how any of that seems, then i have a great respect for him. Thanks to everyone at periodicvideos for bringing us this opportunity to 'meet' him.

  • The hair...

  • Incredibly nice to see how this man remained humble and kind! What a great chemist/physicist, I believe his additions to NMR were the develoment of multidimensional techniques?

  • That man is however seriously wise.. Nice interview, too. The questions themselves aren't too inspiring but the video is.

    Thanks once more.

    ~Nout

  • I too will win the nobel prize. Don't tell me I didnt tell you

  • bit sexist ain't he? LOL

  • Love this series.

  • did winning the prize change your life?

    "no" LOL!

  • OMG, wives are all the same, aren't they??

  • Not Peter Mansfield or Clive Granger??

  • Why can't you get someone actually important, like an IG-Nobel Prize winner? ;-)

  • @Harshfate I REALLY want a wig of the professors hair!

  • Hmm, 00:50 Is that Robert Aschberg meeting him on the plane? :D

  • Well, I don't appriciate his apparent self hatred of men, seem's he's been listening to his wife far too much.

Fascinating interview though. I agree with him very much about the necessity for theory to go with experimentation.

  • 8:05 - whoa! who is that gorgeous girl? hook me up with her number, professor.

  • his English is really good , and awesome vid!

  • Charming man!

  • SERIOUSLY!!!! I WANT A T-SHIRT WITH A PIC OF THE PROFESSORS HEAD!!!! Do it, sell it, you know we will buy it!

  • this video was mind candy for the whole 10 minutes 39 seconds :)

  • What a humble man. I aspire to be more like him.

  • 10/10

  • and then i exploded.

  • loved that one. what a really nice man he is. thanks for the time, effort, and for sharing. :)

  • Fascinating story.

    Thanks for sharing :)

  • i want everyones autograph! if only...

  • Keep up the good work, these videos keep getting better!

  • @SealTeam1 thanks!

  • thank you for the video

  • I thought he ate his ring at the end! aha

  • this channel is amazing, one of the only ones i watch lately

  • well... let's try not winning one. sounds like crap.

  • This was a wonderful interview - he is full of interesting insights.

  • This is nice, just casual talk with a Nobel prize winner. The wonderful use of youtube for promoting science with Nobel Laureate!

The best questions: "Did Nobel Prize change your life"

    Professor Richard Ernst - NO!!

  • Who were the other two he expected to share the prize with?

Very nice interview I must say, and as Mr. Poliakoff said; A very nice, humble laureate!

Seems he has a beautiful wife and family ;-)

  • 100th like yee

  • WHy did Al gore get the nobel peace prize?

  • @AlexKalicinski lmgtfy (dot) com/?q=nobel+peace+prize+2007

  • @myrmecophilous WHATTTT

  • @AlexKalicinski what? it's a link. You just have to take out the (dot) and put a real dot, because youtube doesn't let people post actual links. It contains the answer to your question.

  • @myrmecophilous I know, i wasnt expecting what the page was.

    I did it.

  • @AlexKalicinski lmgtfy is a pretty great site for responding to such questions.

  • Lol, at the end at 10:17, I thought ate his wedding ring! But he was just being interviewed (or rather interrupted) during his lunch.

  • Its great to see these guys are so humble of their achievements. Recently I attended a conference where Rudolf Marcus was speaking and he was equally as humble and an excellent speaker.

  • everytime Professor Richard Ernst smiles he reminds me of Robin Williams

  • Love these types of scientists

  • Nuclear Magnetic Resonance has saved many lives and enriched our understanding of many chemical structures. All of humanity thanks you.

  • his attitude about the prize reminds me of Richard Feynman's. Ernst is a cool guy.

  • Wasn't NMR developed at Nottingham? I would've thought you knew this man personally.

  • @Digeridude Yes, Sir Peter Mansfield from Uni of Nottingham won a Nobel prize for work on MRI. I believe he and Professor Ernst know each other well.... Prof Ernst mentions him in his lectures.

  • nice interview. cool guy

  • what to do with the medal? melt it down, study its chemistry, do SCIENCE with it of course!

  • Males are just playboys

  • @risbolla lol i think he translates his thoughts word to word from his native language

  • I am beginning to see a trend here. It is safe to say that chemists use the word --exciting-- VERY frequently. Is it because of chemists using the atomic excited states on daily basis?

  • @LionelsDevil You're probably right, it could be subconsciously embedded in their vocabulary.

  • @LionelsDevil chemistry is exciting

  • I remember hearing a story about Richard Feynman a Journalist came up to him just after he accepted the the Nobel Prize and asked him if he could explain why he won the prize in about 30 seconds for the TV audience. He thought a bit and said, "No" and walked off.

Incidentily he was asked about the money he won the cash is usually split up between the team of researchers etc as a recognition that it wasn't just one person who won it but it was a team effort.

  • yay 303rd viewer :) i love periodic videos, but unfortunately i prefer physics :P any channels like this, but based of physics?

  • @flame123117 Try sixtysymbols, another one of Brady's channels!

  • Comment removed

  • @flame123117

sixtysymbols (more like 120 symbols now though because there are so many)

  • @flame123117 Yup, it's called sixtysymbols.

  • @flame123117 yes, I think our sixtysymbols channel and website is just what you are looking for!!!

  • @periodicvideos what about biology?

  • @flame123117 I feel the same way which is why Sixty symbols is my #1 and Periodic videos #2 subscription. I think Brady the great is the creator of both. :)

  • Wow, in this case, age really brings wisdom. Not just a brilliant scientist but also a philosopher - and he's telling the truth. You won't find that too often in front of a camera.

And his English is actually pretty good, too.

  • I am a playboy

  • nice dude

  • Why dont Mr Afro have a nobel price :( He should get one just for being awsome!

  • @mance1234 oy - mr afro is polyakoff, he worked at Nottingham when my dad when o university there :O
