@VigoJoeJoe: biology can be "reduced" (rather: led back) to chemistry while chemistry can be "reduced" to physics which again can be reduced to maths - so rather do basic geometry and calculus instead of brabbeling on and on.
Great comment at about 3:06 "The more honest the more serious person are normally the females. Males are just playboys." My wife tells me this all the time.
This has to have been the most honest sounding interview ive ever heard given my limited knowledge of who Professor Ernst is. He gives off the impression of a very well spoken and a well thought individual. But more than that, he seems like a real person, and if theres any honesty in how any of that seems, then i have a great respect for him. Thanks to everyone at periodicvideos for bringing us this opportunity to 'meet' him.
Incredibly nice to see how this man remained humble and kind! What a great chemist/physicist, I believe his additions to NMR were the develoment of multidimensional techniques?
@AlexKalicinski what? it's a link. You just have to take out the (dot) and put a real dot, because youtube doesn't let people post actual links. It contains the answer to your question.
Its great to see these guys are so humble of their achievements. Recently I attended a conference where Rudolf Marcus was speaking and he was equally as humble and an excellent speaker.
@Digeridude Yes, Sir Peter Mansfield from Uni of Nottingham won a Nobel prize for work on MRI. I believe he and Professor Ernst know each other well.... Prof Ernst mentions him in his lectures.
I am beginning to see a trend here. It is safe to say that chemists use the word --exciting-- VERY frequently. Is it because of chemists using the atomic excited states on daily basis?
I remember hearing a story about Richard Feynman a Journalist came up to him just after he accepted the the Nobel Prize and asked him if he could explain why he won the prize in about 30 seconds for the TV audience. He thought a bit and said, "No" and walked off.
Incidentily he was asked about the money he won the cash is usually split up between the team of researchers etc as a recognition that it wasn't just one person who won it but it was a team effort.
@flame123117 I feel the same way which is why Sixty symbols is my #1 and Periodic videos #2 subscription. I think Brady the great is the creator of both. :)
Wow, in this case, age really brings wisdom. Not just a brilliant scientist but also a philosopher - and he's telling the truth. You won't find that too often in front of a camera.
Does he remind anyone else of Robin Williams ?.

"nothing special about Nobel laureates"?
Damn, the man may be brilliant but he is wrong about that.
Real scientist are amongst the few redeemers of the Human race. He redeems your sickening existence. Seems rather special to me.
Although the Nobel has become more political and less "scientific".
