  • For those of you who don't know Japanese, at 1:38 it says "奇妙な アコーディオンマン" which means roughly "Weird Accordion Man". :P

  • @Omnimalevolent1 all i got was "Wonderful デ ィ ー な ア コ オ ン マ ン"

  • @randomcrazyfun76 What do you mean? Are you referring to when you try and get it translated on a translator?

  • @Omnimalevolent1 yeah... it only translated one word lol

  • @randomcrazyfun76 You are using a crappy translator then... :P

奇妙な is an adjective for saying that something is unusual or abnormal in some way... due to 'weird al', I am assuming this would mean "Weird" in this context. アコーディオン is pronounced "akōdion", and is imitating the English word using katakana. And finally マン is simply pronounced and meaning "man"; again with katakana.

  • Katakana is a phonetic alphabet in Japanese used primarily for sounding out foreign words, it can also be used on normal Japanese words to provide emphasis, much like ALL CAPS in English. There are many ways to write out "Man" in Japanese... such as 楽人 (musical person), 楽士 (bandsman), 曲家 (musical specialist), 楽師 (Music master), or 音楽家 (Musician). マン (man) is used just to fit better with accordion. much like how usage of ubermensch (german) in English uses mensch instead of man.

  • @Omnimalevolent1

An elegant and articulate explanation, and you're 100% correct about the translation and the reasoning behind it. Believe me, I know - I made this video. Nice job.

  • @Omnimalevolent1 ok, thank you... simply put, al does his homework on everything! :)

  • I like this new version of the music video and I say new because part of this video was used as a video backdrop for a truncated version of this song in Al's live shows... the only difference I know of is there's some random guy ironing and serving food instead of Al.

Does anyone know who that was in the "live" version?
