  • I almost got an XC90 we got our third avalon instead

  • or, you could mount it facing back for a little speed boost :D......... crap, now i want to try that....... maybe i will O.o

  • that looks like a sweet way to start a drift, Yes we all know volvo is safe because its got good crumple zones and fancy electronics and everything but for to price its hard to find a car without those

  • I guess they told the driver not to attempt correction?

  • HAHAHAHAHA thats funny

  • thats soo cool :)

  • howfast did the water have to be coming outt :O

  • that lil water cannon has no resemblents to a side impact crash! that makes no sense. fords are bull shit, and are shit!

  • It's not ment to simulate a rear side inpact crash. it's ment to check the car for stability control if the car looses it's traction. And it's not a FORD it's a VOLVO. yes GM bought them and look what that's happend all becouse of the clinton administrations "Yey, live the american dream" everybody has credit, you can take a loan, no need for financial security, ops. ppl not paying their debts and american economy down the drain.... Fuck this I'm drunk..

  • For some reason i can't explain at all, I really like Volvos.

    Well done Swedes.

  • "a volvo is a box to keep all your safety features in"Jeremy Clarkson-Top Gear

  • The same Jeremy That sold a 355 to buy an AMG... then defended the latest Cclass AMG agains na M3 and RS4.. and was BRUTALLY joked about it.. and in the end.. he was wrong! OOOPS

Clarkson is right in many thinks.. but when it comes to merc.. he is completely BLIND. Just as he hates vauxall, cause it hates! It's part of it's commic caracter to be caustic and tendencious.

I like him for the fun, but prefer Tiff and Jason for reason. Or even better... all bestmotoring drivers for the reason.

  • Dude, what are you talking about. The new c63 has been "defended" by almost every magazine that has test driven it. Its a great car and i would gladly choose one over an M3. It may not be as fast around a track but in the real world it is the better car, its quicker, better looking and more comfortable.

Anyone who listens to top gears opinions on cars is an idiot. They just talk rubbish.

Great show but their opinions are not worth listening to...

  • merc builds sofas on wheels... their target isn't and will never be the racerboy, but rather the yuppy(on the amg sde) or the arab magnat on the more comfy than everything else models.

it will never EVER be a fast track car cause it's a house on wheels... and no matter the HUGE engine you put on it... "houses on wheels" tend to create high inertia and so, will never be good changing direction... so will never be track cars.

Independently of the review you prefer.

  • It's fine and dandy to have ultra light cars on the track were there are tires stacked up on each corner to soften your crash but if you're going to drive these cars on the road with all the other psychos, you'll be a dead man.

  • yes and no!

If you crash or get crashed into... YEP a big car is important.

If you can avoid the crash, a nimbles, more manouverable vehicle is far better so.. No in that case.

Again a heavy car means more inertia to dissipate in a crash so... it's a balance.

Anyway, a BIG car is not safe cause it has lots of steel. The structure should be made to absorve and divert forces and deform progressively, alowing crescent and barable G-force decelaration. And AGAIN, volvo rules is this area.

  • And that goes for his opinion on the Volvo too. He complained about the S60R too instead of just reviewing it on its own merits he decided to compare it to an M3 when it clearly has a different buyer in mind.

I love Jeremy but he doesnt half talk a lot of shit.

  • Jeremy makes a comedy show, mostly. Does he know about cars, shure, but his ego and cautics critisism together with "bland loving" blindness will never make him a good car critic such as for example Tiff!

Still I do test the cars i like and dislike... and yes i admit to be too much racer oriented to enjoy a sofa on wheels. Still when it comes to safety (wich is the origin of this discussion volvo/merc/bmw) volvo is the tip of the sword.

  • Just because the M3 is faster that makes the C63 a sofa on wheels? Get real. The C63 is a better handling car than almost every car other than the M3 so what does that say about them? The Chassis of the current c-class is as good as the 3 series despite having a much better ride and the new e-class is supposed to be the best handling car in its class.

  • Inertia!

You can have the best chassis on earth.. then fuck-it-up with heavy unecessary extras.

The ford focus, focus Cmax, volvo s40 and v50 share the same excelent chassis... BUT a standard focus will outhandlle my volvo s40.. why? smae chassis right? CAUSE MY VOLVO WEIGHTS 1500Kg dry!.

Again.. build the best chassis... then spoil-it with active seats and wooden dashbords and frigobars... stuff like that.

A sofa on wheels is a way to say that comfort stuff fuck up the car on weight,

  • I'm assuming that Volvo makes their cars heavier for safety reasons. I have been in a side collision in a 2002 SAAB 9-5 Aero Wagon and can say that having a safe vehicle makes a lot of sense. If you have ever been in a 35 mph side collision before (the other driver didn't even apply his brakes, tried to run a red light), you'll know what I'm talking about.

  • As for Volvo being the tip of the safety sword i have to disagree. I drive a Volvo S40 and the next car i want is an s60R so i can be objective. Mercedes have always been the leaders in safety.

    Mercedes safety innovations:

    Crumple zones

    ABS

    Traction control

    ESP

And of the stuff mercedes didnt invent, they were usually the first to fit it as standard. Volvo are also at the forefront of safety but they talk about it wheras mercedes innovate quietly without boasting.

  • Get your history right man... volvo has the record by far in safety patents. And they are nice enought to "give some away" for others to use.

ESP and ABS are inovations autsourced by mercedes... so basically bosh should have the credits for those. Crumple zones (can't say that they are or aren't mercedes inventions don't know) but i do know that volvo took the leap by crating different steel compounds to make the SIPS and crumple zones appliable without creating 5ton cars.

  • yes, Volvo have the safety record for most patents. Mercedes have never patented a safety innovation. They dont patent them as a general rule. Here are some more they didnt patent.

    Seat belt pre tensioners

    Brake assistance

The safety cell/crumple zone is the single most important safety innovation of all time and mercedes invented it. ESP and ABS were co-developed by mercedes and bosch and mercedes not just outsourced to bosch. Get your facts right.

  • I love most volvos.. but honestly... i only drive my s40 when i REALLY need to take the kid out...

    normally i drive the S2000!

By this rational you can easilly understand that a S40 with sport extras (hard as hell) is my limmit for a car to drive... and i still think it's too damn heavy and comfortable.

I'm too much of a hardcore racer to even begin to like a merc.

hell i hate the V8 m3! i'd love to have the older m3csl

    Get my drift here?

My car of election is the Exige. Light light

  • i thing is bothering me thow... if you love mercs so damn much... why the hel don't you buy one man?

I've declined company cars for being mercs... and i brought my volvo as MY CHOICE. I only drive what i like and surelly i'll only pay for a car i really really like.

Can't understand your drift. Driving and paying for volvos.. but loving mercs :S

    Go on and buy one!

Don't get me wrong here I'm not trying to be rude... I like a good discussion.. but this point was tickling my brain ;)

  • Definately a V70 R. Man whata sexy wagon

  • you know it!

  • criminal defense system...at a store near you!

  • A beautiful car that if I had hit while he made that turn would have sued for it and painted it red. :>)

  • does the water cannon come as standard?

  • What model Volvo is that?

  • Volvo V70R AWD, 300hp

  • V70 R I think.

  • the water cannon would be a really nice feature if it came with the car. i would blast all the bad drivers away

  • I'm not sure how that water cannon simulates a side-to-side crash? Yes there are some lateral forces acting on the side of the car, but it doesn't take into account the resulting damage if this were indeed a car-on-car collision. That has to adversely effect the stability control system.

  • its not suposed to simulate a crash its supposed to simlulate what if the started loosing control, hence "stability control"

  • Read the intro to the movie, buddy: "the force of the water simulates a side-to-side CRASH."

  • I can see it now: there are gonna be front-wheel drifters all over this water cannon stuff. Still, seeing how well that car kept its stability even after a sudden large destabilizing force in the back is a testament to the engineers behind the car.

  • For the record volvo's DSTC is quite a wonder.

    Volvo has:

    TC - Traction Control

STC - Stability and traction control (like a normal ESP or DSC)

AND the WONDERFULL DSTC - Dynamic Stability and Traction Control..

Difference form the STC? AYC (that's right Active Yawn Control) There is another car out there that has it... it's called LANCER EVOLUTION and it MASTERS controller slides.

This (like the 1st S40's Chassis) is the result of Mitsubishi's/Volvo Marriage in the S40/Carisma project

  • When I tested the new xc70, Volvo told me that I could go as fast as I wanted in the corners. (It was winter) They told me to try to make it slide of the road. I tried, but it just would not slide!

  • actually VOLVO has the worlds safest cars... they were the first company to actually invest millons in safety measures and many companies followed their pattern in making new cars...

  • First company to put seat belts in a car as well.

  • please explain to me why would say that. I got into a huge car wreak and the seatbelt saved my life.

  • are you sure it wasn't geezus who saved your life?

  • no, I had a huge bruise acrossed my chest from the belt. some dumb bitch ran a red light and I T-Boned her go like 45 MPH.

  • im sure the airbag had saved ur life

  • they both had something to do with it, but what i'm saying is that seatbelts are the single greatest invention ever to be put into cars.

  • i disagree. i think the coin holder was the greatest invention ever to be put into cars.

  • same here, but heated seats is a close second

  • esp if you live in colder climates

  • @georged31 aa no actually now VW is :)

  • fords leading stability system!? thats a joke mercedes is leading their system is far more advanced. even a c class can make this volvo look inferior.

  • looooooool Dream on.

I know a couple of serious defects on E class ... not to mention the A class.

  • some guy thats name is a comic book character knows defects on the mercedes E class? a car that has had more than 6 years to be worked on let alone the 900Grand mercedes invests in research and development everyday? shut up dork.

  • Comment removed

  • no one denies the importance of the volvo brand to automobile safety but the A class defect? thats so 1997. I think you have not heard of ESP? defined as the 2nd best automotive safety genius development after the 3point seatbelt. The development of the A class allowed for the widespread usage and development of the ESP technology. so wolverine come on, learn your cars.

  • learn my cars.. than you must be talking of anything BUT a merc. I'm so NOT a merc man that i declined a company car because it was a merc.

Still 97 on the 1st model.. the 2nd gen was created and in the end they remembered theis needed a exaust, so they defformed the suspention arm :S

The M has the unprotected gas tank and it's also the car's part that is closer to the ground.

If you buy the Extra wheel pack with big rims on the E class... don't run over a hole or the air bag deplois...

  • A last but not least.. the ESP on the A class was necessary to keep the car with all weels on the ground.. on the E class, if aquaplan, when regaining adherence the SCP WILL work against you for being all exited and over reactive... and if you steer... ooops you may never regain control again.. until a concrete wall or another car helps you stop.

  • NOT trying to say Mercedes is BAD... I personaly think it is, as they build cars for comfort and not efficiency... but that's ME personal. Sophas are confortable, but they also sit still.

    Every car has defects...EVERY one!

Just CAN'T agree on you commenting that in safetty terms, a Merc would out class a Volvo.

Everithyng is argumentable and Likes & Dislikes are personal, but that early comment followed buy the UNDiggs form the ILoveMercsTeam, jeeezz.. c'mon admit-it, Safety = VOLVO

  • Dammm I like that, that's amazing.

They should make a commercial like that.

  • Lol watch the rims from 0:20-0:26

  • lol interestingly cool

  • its because of the shutter speed from the camera

  • volvo is junk ever since it got sold to ford.

  • lets see it with AIDS OFF.

  • That is so cool

  • Volvo's have some great looking cars..

  • Very unusual method...

  • nice. they should put it facing backwards for a turbo boost...

  • Drift assist + water canon, damn dream car right there.

  • almost got it to drift haha

  • Interesting stability test.

  • Volvo, for those who want a car like a pirate ship.

  • I dnt get it.

  • I need a few of those on my truck! I'd get some damn shitty drivers!

  • to test its stability without havin to keep repeatly crashin and ruinign cars

  • People keep getting dumber, lol.

How long has youtube been around? You would think people would start reading descriptions now, especially if they don't understand the video. lol.

  • yay best video ever with a water cannon!
