You do not need permission to record people in public. They have no expectation of privacy, the supreme court has already decided this. This cop's making up the law as he goes along.

@LincolnFStern In addition you do NOT need a permit to film an amateur or press film. Permits are for commercial recordings so that you don't cause traffic problems etc, and it pays for whatever city workers etc are needed to block traffic or control pedestrians etc. These cops are completely ignorant of the law, and they should all be busted down to beat cop and sent to be retrained, they have no fucking clue what they're doing.

I just found an article, which I think correlates with this video. I think this man's name is Alton Robinson and he is planning to sue the City. The City has charged him with unlawful filming, unlawfully refusing to give his name and disorderly conduct. The unlawful filming charged was dropped, but it appears the other two still stand. Can you believe that he is being charged with refusing to give his name when it's clear as day that he said it IMMEDIATELY when asked!

Norfolk is known for lower income minorities, so it's a fact that police take advantage of the citizens in two aspects: 1) they are ignorant of the laws and their rights 2) even if they know their rights, they don't have the money to "fight the system". And as a result are often forced to submit and take the plea deal. It sounds like this citizen has a good head on his shoulders and I hope he is able to get out of it, but he will undoubtedly be harassed as a result.

@cincinatus90 It is a bit extreme, but the point is that police use extreme violence on citizens all on the pretense of their lies and lack of honor. They are violent and abusive gang members who would not hesitate for a second to use violence against you, even if that meant taking your life.
