Yes, this all sounds very sad and heartbreaking, but reality is that the US has one of the most anachronistic and obsolete legislation when it comes to adoption, single parents and gay couples are not allowed to adopt, and those who are eligible are rejected in 75% of the cases. So why would anyone wait 8 years and spend thousands of dollars to adopt an american child when they can as easily adopt overseas in less than a year, and that is including single parents and gay couples.
This is what pro-lifers don't think about! Rather then whine about Planned Parenthood, why don't they volunteer with foster care, or better yet, adopt these kids! They are not embryos, these are living breathing children. Why do people and politicians kick up a fuss over an embryo, but don't bring any attention to actual children?

I would be afraid to adopt a child that wasn't a baby, because it would be hard to adapt to their personalities, emotional needs, and be able to please them. I want to someday adopt, i am only 17 right now but i am already thinking when I grow up i want to have one child of my own, and then adopt a child if i have enough money to. One thing that concerns me is i lack experience with children, and i have anxiety, a.d.d. and o.c.d. issues. I also am very afraid when it comes to meeting new people.

But yet, I have tried to adopt an older child 10-12 but have been turned down. I don't have a criminal record, i'm in good shape money wise, I beleive in God but I'm not a religious freak, I own my home that is in good condition with a pool and in south florida, it's not a sexual thing (I put it that way so I won't insult anyone). The reason...I'm older but i want to make sure I'm around long enough to see them go through college and get established in life) and single, that makes me ineligible.

I was in foster care for 7 years & went on my own at age 17 I got tired of "waiting". Process of emancipated by the courts is the way I took. I think this needs to be BIG NEWS so people might look into adopting older kids. Honestly, giving the older kids a chance in life will make a difference for our future! I ran out of space below before I could clarify a comment I made. The adoption I was turned down on was a in Russia, I have not tried the US before only because I thought the need was greater overseas. After watching this I will try within the US, I have to find out if I could cross state lines or if I'm limited to my state of residence (not that thats a bad thing). The second boy in the interviews (Will I beleive) is exactly the age of child I would like to adopt. Pre teen but not a little kid

But yet, I have tried to adopt an older child 10-12 but have been turned down. I don't have a criminal record, i'm in good shape money wise, I beleive in God but I'm not a religious freak, I own my home that is in good condition with a pool and in south florida, it's not a sexual thing (I put it that way so I won't insult anyone). The reason...I'm older but i want to make sure I'm around long enough to see them go through college and get established in life) and single, that makes me ineligible.

with every child you have problems. If they are you bio or not. love children and give them a change that they have beening. someone that cares enough to say I will stand by you 100 %

I was in foster care for 7 years & went on my own at age 17 I got tired of "waiting". Process of emancipated by the courts is the way I took. I think this needs to be BIG NEWS so people might look into adopting older kids. Honestly, giving the older kids a chance in life will make a difference for our future! Most people don't want to adopt in America for some reason. They want to go outside of America.

If this was big news Like the orphans from Haiti, I think a lot more ppl would care. If it was seen as a crisis that it is, there would be more done for them. What foster homes and care does now is not working. This needs to be fixed.

they need to adopt our kids before the others. The others can wait a little while, they just got here from another country. The foster home will treat them well!

no im not. im saying that the government should do more to prepare these kids for when they can't be taken care of by them anymore. if its anyones fault its the parents who had them. since when are kids cheaper than condoms.

we should adopt our own kids before we adopt hatian kids btw, doesnt make sense to bring in hatian kids when we got so many orphans already (canada/usa) .. not to mention their haiti's problem, not our fault their whole weak society crumbled from 1 earthquake, or that the adults there aint man or woman enough

yeah I know! adopt the ones we have and let the others wait a little bit, they just got here. i don't know if this sounds selfish, but think about the kids who have been waiting for foster parents all their lives.

this is so sad. in my pedes office i saw a lot of kids like this and it was really sad because some of the kids really just want someone to love them and pay attention to them and because they don't get it they drift to unhealthy activities

CBS this is really irresponsible to display these kids with their faces.
Some of them are obviously minors and I am not sure they understand the implications of having their personal life publically displayed like this. Privacy should be protected and respected, even for children with no parents!
