This song always reminds me of my Nana, a great lady she was! FYI She gave me her electric guitar, yea .. it was hers because she is one awesome Ma'am!
I love this movie and i wasn't even BORN when it came out. My dad was watching it one day and i made fun of him because of one of the characters and what it looked like. I knew this song before i even knew the movie. I insisted on watching the movie, and now i LOVE IT! One of my favorites! My 2nd favorite movie of ALL TIME!
When I was 5 I would insist on renting this movie every week until my mom gave in and got it for me on my birthday. I watched it everyday and new every single line. This film defined my childhood.
this is my favorite movie of all time...I used to ask my mom to play this movie over and over again. I love it. My favorite scene is when Lilly is lured with one of Darkness' presents, the black dress. :D sooooo many memories!!! <3
Can anyone tell me where to get the director's cut? I have the VHS version but if there's more to the movie I wanna see it :3 I'm guessing ebay/amazon might be good places to check?
I just got the directors cut edition of this movie and was so excited only to come to the end and thissong as well as myfavorite scene that takes place during it WERE REMOVED... bastard
@CorporateAvenger9 the directors version... WAS the original version. And still is over in Europe. They were also blessed with Jerry Goldsmith's original score. We in North America got the horrible (in my opinion) version with Tangarine Dreams score. They have since released a two disc DVD with both versions (probably the one you have)
@ZipBalloon1989 well the version i had seen as a child was with the score by TD and that was the one i liked. the version i got only has one disc and its the one with out.
Still one of the movies in my top 5. The movie that made me love Arthurian legends "no pun intended" and Wagner's Parzifal. Good over evil. A forgotten thought in todays world today.
ive been searching for something to say to show how much i love this song and movie. couldnt come up with anything other than HELLZ YEAHHHHH. this flash gordon and the never ending story are the greatest 80s movies for me. and yes im a 1990 baby lol
@whenirunthecountry hell i was watching them as a child. my dad actually had this song on a playlist he played on his computer for me when i was spending the night at his apartment as a kid. and i always loved it so it kinda makes me reminisce and have that same feeling of security.
I saw this in the theater when I was a girl, and I can remember coming out of the movie in complete awe, taking a few steps and then going right back in to watch it again. Now I cannot see it alone without bawling, and I definitely cannot listen to this song without tearing up. Best movie to watch with your significant other, the emotions this movie evoke are much better shared with the one you love.
@WibSkelDS9 The other day I had a funny thought: what if they had Jon Anderson playing the villain in Legend like Bowie played him in Labyrinth. Imagine some of the iconic scenes with Jon's high register, such as the big laugh or the beginning speech.
This movie scared the daylight out of me when I was little. Then it became a favorite that I forgot about until recently when it was on TV. Such a classic fairy-tale
An amazing departure for a band memorable only for pretentious, pseudo-intellectual crap, punctuated only by synthesised farting noises. Congratulations lads, you've come up with a tune for once.
This is gonna sound pretty lame, but whenever I hear this song,it makes me think of an ex gf from when i was 17.During the summer, she had gone away for a couple weeks to visit family and when she came back was telling me how she'd stayed up one night at like 2 am and was watching this movie(legend) and i was awake too watching it on tv.so now whenever i see it or hear this song,it always makes me think of her since that day.Reminds me of how much i loved her back then.Makes me sad.
Legends, The Dark Crystal, Never Endeng Story, The Labrinth movies like this make you feel good inside I was born in 83 I love this shit they keep you imagination open NICE EDIT!!!!!!!!!
This movie... the setting, the characters, the plot and the music are to this day one of the main reasons I have held onto my creativity and imagination over the years. When I watch this film I start to believe in fairy tales all over again. This was one of the first soundtracks I ever owned and I still have the original CD in near perfect condition. This is one of the best movies/soundtracks of all time in my opinion. I am an artist today because of inspiration like this.
luv this movie so much ..everything about it is so wonderful and enchanting, and the music ..is so beautiful.. was so scared of the dark dance scene hiding my face in a cushion , but had to peek to see what was going to happen ...amazing movie ♥
This is great! It's a song that represents everything RIGHT with electronic music as opposed to overkill in the 1980s.
I remember first hearing this when I was 12 years old. I had turned on American Movie Classics to catch the end of Legend when Jack sends the Prince into the void. Couldn't forget about the song, probably what made me look for the film years later!
Jon Anderson is great with or without Yes. Great voice. Lyrics may be silly in a few places here, but I'm not complaining.
there cannot be any true lasting peace without Jesus Christ(Jews). Man has the capacity for Good, but lacks the guidance without GOD. The beginning of Wisdom is the knowledge that mankind doesn't have a clue of it alone. It is a fairy tale like this one, but this is a beautiful fairy tale. Untrue, but the music is great. Jon Anderson singing Amazing Grace in Atlanta, Georgia was fantastic too. Thanks for the video, and the music.
You have a very rich life, Nell, Watch out for toad stool's and OLD OAK's lol Whole thing was a work of Love through the darkness......dazzeling!! LOVE!!! FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!!......can that be a bad thing? ~peace~
for me being a guy i love this song and the movie and i regret not telling my wife i love her enough thats what this song does to couples.it is true love by the sun
I've had this song stuck in my head for a week. I need to buy this movie soon. My vhs of it is now completely dead; it got too much use when I was a kid.
Ridley Scott made genre films art. Blade Runner, Alien and Legend. It's unfortunate so many people my age who love fantasy films; have yet to see this film. A beautifully shot film and vastly underrated. Even this song is a perfect example of a fantasy anthem. "What Have We Here! A Little BOY!?"
I am a big strong guy, but every time i hear this music i cry. my sister, who was a nurse in a nursing home told me about this song and this movie being great. She's dead now, and i remember good times with her every time i here this song.
Wonderful video. I got the region 1 edition of Legend because it is packed with special features and it comes with the theartrical and directors cut. It was surprising to see how much extra there was in the directors cut version compared to the uk one I used to watch. The thing is, I prefer the Tangerine Dream soundtrack but the directors cut version of the movie, so I find it hard when choosing which one to watch. All in all tho it is a Legend of a film.
I never realised just how beautiful Lily was until I watched this as a young adult - the difference getting older can make to perception, as well as to beauty, is truly wonderful,.
Beautifully put together thanks! Really want to be able to purchase this soundtrack.. but its not available in the uk, I can't find it anywhere. :( It was almost as difficult to buy the movie with this score. But I managed in the end woohoo! If anyone knows where to get the soundtrack please let me know!!! xxx
I love this movie so much but the whole DIRECTORS CUT has a different soundtrack which kinda makes the movie blow... I want the THEATRICAL RELEASE w/ Original soundtrack please somebody!!!
You really kind of need to fix the credits, the soundtrack was done By Tangerine yes. But loved by the Sun, was performed By John Anderson of YES. It really is kind of important to the lore of the film.
It's amazing how organic special effects and make up was back then. Everything now looks so fake and filled with CGI. There is hope though with the likes of Guillermo Del Toro; his work is truly amazing.
Both the film and the song are so iconic of a time in my life that will always be structurally so relevant to every part of me that is good (few though they may be).
@LostYin probably Tom Cruise bashers! F them! I love pretty much all of his movies and this is 1 of my favs! everything about it, the actors, the scenery, the music, and the magic! "IT's Very Magic!!!!!
I dont see how people can compare that flop Labyrinth to this masterpiece. I couldn't even watch Labyrinth but this movie is one of my favorites of all time.
I love the Tangerine Dream soundtrack and the Jerry Goldsmith score in equal measure. This is and always be one of my favorite films. Teach us to love, for goodness' sake. Legends can be now and forever loved by the sun.
This song and this movie is pure magic for the soul!! Just beautifully hauntingly mesmerizing!! Oh how I miss those days of my life. What a time that was full of true happiness and innocence. A time to never be forgotten!! ♥
@bugmusk6 I know exactly what you mean. I saw this when I was about 10, and fell in love with it. It remains my favourite movie to this day...But almost no one knows what I'm talking about when I talk about it.
Really amire Ridley for the work he put into making this film I cant imagine how time consuming it is to create a world like this with no CGI, Everyrthing organic to the touch, A true artist at work making films with techniques never too be seen again,As good as the special effects are today i wish the film companys would make more films the old skool way.
Am I the only person who likes TD's score better than Goldsmith's?
Don't get me wrong, I love almost everything Jerry ever did. He truly was the maestro and his score for this was okay. I just think this is probably TD's best score and their music really fit the film, as did this song.
@zenmachinefilms I think TD did a better score as well. Even the best musician can't do everything. I think the problem with Jerry is that he was overworked and expected to do everything back in the day. They got to give these guys some breathing room and shop around once in a while. Between this, Wavelength and Firestarter, I'd say no one else could have scored these films except TD. Every film needs it's own flavor.
My favorite movie of all time and one of my favorite of all time songs, beautifully edited, I'm amazed that people remember this movie, this was Tom Cruises best.
@Delgift Hey when you do watch the movie understand that this is the soundtrack from the theatrical release with tangerine dream. The director's cut does not have this music. The director's cut is the better version visually and storywise, but the tangeringe dream soundtrack is better. If you watch only one scene from the theatrical version it should be the sequence that goes with this song.
@jeannelovesjon1 You sent me the Bryan Ferry - David Gilmour before and I liked it, but of course listening to Anderson`s voice...well, that`s another story. = )
The Prince of Darkness here is too scary for this movie to be rated PG. Not to mention that slimy green goblin that hops out of the water and was gonna eat Jack.
Hard to believe Tom Cruise was in Legend in 1985 and then the very next year Top Gun. I mean, he's like an innocent adolescent in love in this... and in Top Gun he's a masculine alpha male.
I think that the primary appeal of this movie is the overwhelming purity and innocence of the main characters. It's a battle between good and evil in its most elemental state, light vs. darkness. It's highly underrated considering the masterful use of lighting and the set design, not to mention terrific creature effects.
Had the chorus of this song in my head today and hopped on youtube. Thank you for posting. Reminds me of when I was a kid and had a more romantic view of the world.
weed only causes giggle fits and munchies lol you must have been token something laced :) but aside from that a truely gorgious marriage of music and visual .
John Anderson literally has the most epic voice of all time and anything sung by him cannot help but be a classic for the ages. It is ridiculous that a voice like his even exists.
@DJJesse1986 When I saw this movie I was a young man, I didn't realize who Tim was really. Then I saw him in other things, i.e.. I.T....and other projects and realized he has an amazing depth !!!! seriously. He can be funny as all, and then flip that and be totally intimidating and sinister. What a wonderful job they all did in this film and made this movie a LEGEND*
On May 31, 2002, I had my last conversation, ever, with my Dear Mother...the conversation was short, yet profound...her voice was soft, like the mists of morning childhoods of long ago...and the very last words, that she ever said to me, was..."son, I love you''...she died a week later, on June 7, 2002, at the age of 52...for the next three days, not a drop of rain fell from the sky, as if to allow for the journey of her soul in the eternal firmament of heaven...Mother, I will always love you...
Such a pretty song. The electronic music of Tangerine Dream is just so elegant and Jon Andersons voice..WOW! If only these fantasy worlds were real.

Love the fact that Jon Anderson sang this song. Great spiritual leader of our time.

This video makes me sad that the young kids have ripped all meaning out of the word "epic." Sniff.

I just think this is probably TD's best score and their music really fit the film, as did this song.
zenmachinefilms 1 year ago
@zenmachinefilms I think TD did a better score as well. Even the best musician can't do everything. I think the problem with Jerry is that he was overworked and expected to do everything back in the day. They got to give these guys some breathing room and shop around once in a while. Between this, Wavelength and Firestarter, I'd say no one else could have scored these films except TD. Every film needs it's own flavor.

I guess I`ll have to watch this movie. I`m 22 and haven`t lived the early 80`s as most people here. The music at least is wonderful. : )

As Tim said, a voice never again for sure.

ShelterDogs 1 year ago
I think that the primary appeal of this movie is the overwhelming purity and innocence of the main characters. It's a battle between good and evil in its most elemental state, light vs. darkness. It's highly underrated considering the masterful use of lighting and the set design, not to mention terrific creature effects.

What a wonderful job they all did in this film and made this movie a LEGEND*

there is some scuttlebutt around the net saying they are either remaking this film or doing a long overdue sequel.
