I have an 06 xterra and Nissan quality has gone down the toilet. I had to replace the battery after a year. The ABS system makes a ton of strange cracking and snapping sounds which nissan told me is normal. The fuel sending unit is garbage on nissan vehicles. It went bad after 40k miles and cost about 400 to fix which I havent fixed yet so my gauge always reads empty. Also at 70k miles i had to replace the window motors. These cars are nothing but problems.
@JohnnyBoyCali I don't see how the battery depands on a car quality. All ABS systems make cracking sounds when thery are on. Yes it's normal. I owned Mazda, Nissan, Honda, they all make cracking sounds.
Oh my God, what have done to the front bumper. It looks like it's missing its front teeth. Don't get me wrong, I love the Xterra and it's my favorite SUV but I don't know about the front bumper.
some people buy cars because they LOOK nice...not everyone cares about going off roading...I have an '04 and I bought it because I like the way it drove and how it looked, plus I needed something I could travel back home with and pack all my stuff in...
Doesn't matter imo. It always puzzles me why some people would buy an SUV without 4 wheel drive. What's the point of owning an SUV then? It's like people who buy Mustang's with V-6 engines.
some people live in a city or down South where there's no snow or whatever, so they don't need 4WD, but still need to haul lots of stuff and need the cargo space. You can't fit lots of stuff in a sedan.
I have a 4WD Xterra though, and I love it. It goes anywhere
i agree with NemeanLion, take away the 4wd sytem and it becomes less then average, but with the 4wd its extrodenary,if you don't need 4wd but wan't the space, why not get a 2wd ford explorer, they get about the same gas milage, and you can tow about 7,300ibs with it.
does 4X2 mean you can drop it into 2wd, then when needed, put it into 4wd with slippery conditions? I have an 02 Xterra n drive with it in rear wheel drive. Then kick it into 4X4 when i need it. Helps save gas.
For most normal driving leave in 2wd. leaving it in 4wd for normal driving could damage the system. For instance slippery roads from rain or snow, offroading, construction zones, uneven pavement, gravel, climbing a curb keep in 4wd H. For really heavy snow or or steep rock climbing go to 4 Lo get tranny in neutral when switching to 4 L. 4 L is meant for low speeds.
myne too already ordered it today 2009 nissan xterra off road automatic, i got the off road lights and side steps, i did't get the mudflaps, do you like the mud flaps?

I like the 06 better, Offroad is best. 4x2 is fine unless you live in the wilderness.

Interesting grill. It looks the same otherwise as '05+. I put Big Horn tires on my 05 and they ROCK. Handles the Oregon back roads no problem.

Cheapest model available. Doesn't even have 4 wheel drive.

Yeah, but look at where he's filming this, defintly not where the Xterra belongs. That being said i'm going to get this, except the off-road edition.

the v-8 explorer 7,300 lbs tow is pretty impressive, though the xterra's 5,000 lbs is decent.
