My problem is I don't trust governments to be free of corrution regardless of elections. I would rather a smaller weaker government so it has to work extra hard to infringe on my rights. Not completely neutered, but incapable of changing the way I choose to live my life without causing a big issue.
I'm nt against all government, just issues that don't require government, such as the fairness doctrine. I don't see a need for the government to be involved. And a weaker government more dependant on the people for power will respond better to the will and needs of the people.
I understand being uneasy with multinationals, I share some of that sentiment, but I have seen what it is like when you have no multinational interest in your country and that kind of poverty can be just as bad as their corruption. this brings me back to my obsession with balance, because that is what is needed.
The incredible unchecked power of white male multi-national corporations has nothing to do with "multi-national interest." Multi-national corporations act ONLY in THEIR OWN INTEREST. They systematically RAPE the developing nations of the world -- and have done since the 16th century.
Interest in other countries of the world is, of course, a good and necessary thing -- sadly lacking in Republican political policy.
I am not for unchecked power, again balance, but the island my family is from has minimal mutinationals present, and poverty is high. the only way my dad was able to get to Canada was because he worked as a salesman for a multi-national. a balanced presence of certain companies CAN help to advance the people and society but it must be balanced. Currently the only countries investing there are Canada and China, and I trust the companies from Canada much more than I do the chinese.
The canadian companies invest and are looking for something in return. exploitation fo resources, but China asks for nothing in return and that scares me. what business does China have with a tiny island far away with less Chinese than Canadians living there ? they must want something, and its either not released to the public, or the government is too naive to think ahead of their own selfish needs. Paving roads can get you re-elected.
How about a third alternative? How about investment in the people of your island, by the people of your island. Small businesses empowering regular folks, growing, building, and trading with the nations of the world. Sure, standard of living will grow slowly -- but when it is achieved, will be more stable and sustainable.
Sadly, I think, developing nations, after long histories of colonization, have been left with few choices. But that can change. And must, for the sake of world stability.
to be honest that is what I have advocated for, but Vincys want more, like other islands have, in terms of quality of life, options at one's disposal, and health care options. I understand that want, because it has influenced the exodus out of St Vincent for the last 60-70 years, even before the end of colonialism. It is very challenging for the government, and it has lead to some bad choices for the people and the island, especially from the IMF.
Sounds like St Vincent has some real problems. I dont doubt that. Again, I am learning about something I know nothing about -- so thanks for that. My gut feeling is that Obama's way of governing will only help the people of St Vincent to accomplish the things that it sounds like you and I agree they can and must. Again, thanks for the discussion. Highly enlightening.
No shit. Do you really think you're telling me something? My point was, Obama doesn't try to appeal to the "hood" and Steele does, and he looks like a bafoon everytime he tries it.
Steele does look like an idiot, but I argue so does any of these politricksters. Maybe Obama was too busy counrting whites to appeal to the hood but both these guys are guilty of pandering for votes, and I don't care who looks more pathetic, because they both are sadly foolish political opportunists.
Actually, he was probably okay with the idea of being the party TOKEN. I just don't think he realized he was going to be the party MASCOT.
You know, like the poor bastard who has to walk around in a foam-rubber chicken outfit while both his team and the opposing team kick him in the butt to make the fans in the bleachers laugh at half time?
No, first prize goes to Michelle Buchannan and the Hoot-Smalley Tariff Act, from yesterday. But damn, it's not an easy contest to pick which GOP clown deserves the biggest laughs. From Boehner and his "Our budget doesn't NEED no stinkin numbers" to Michael Steele and his re-heated Superfly routine, to Bobby Jindal and his Mr. Rogers impersonation. This whole party is comedy gold.
I'm glad that he was able to so fully and completely discuss the regional and ideological differences within contemporary Republicanism. It's all about how you wear your baseball cap!
US under bio-chem TERRORIST attack as NWO thugs are cornered
by Tom Heneghan

April 29, 2009
UNITED STATES of America - It can now be reported that the Obama Administration, working directly with their 'handlers', the Bush-Clinton Crime Family Syndicate, and their U.S. corporate fascist media enablers, are about to declare a "PANDEMIC", which will be a precursor to martial law and suspension of the Constitution of the United States.
I would like to see him wear his hat backwards to a GOP meeting. I'm sure they would all think it was very "street" and "cool" and "hip hop" of him. Maybe he could get a clock to hang around his neck, to connect with the hip young voters!
What a goofy party. I wonder how long this "we cool" thing lasts before they just say fuck it and put the real leader (Rush) out there and say "take it or leave it you socialists. We got guns."
rush is smart enough to manipulate millions out of dittoheads -- he knows what he is doing. he is leader of the contraryists which is now a majority of the republican party -- but i think he knows he can't carry off a revolution with just a bunch of angry old retired white guys. that and he is making too much money off a good thing -- why change?
I think the Medicare Drug plan removed the moral authority from the repubs to talk about socialism. What a freaking scam that was. Forcing taxpayers to pay retail prices for drugs any disadvantaged person could have gotten for free just by having their doctor fax in a form letter to the patient assistance program. The trillions borrowed will have to be paid back by taxes and that is distribution of wealth from people who aren't even born yet to corporate cronies.
This is yet another "cringy" vid of him making an ass of himself off of the "black" thing.
Dude is not even comfortable in his own skin. He's a friggin joke!
You know, many people were accusing Black Americans of voting for Obama simply because he was "black" as well....I can assure ANYONE - had Steele been in Obama's place 6 months ago USA would NOT have a Black President today.
Dude is just a dumb ass...a politician with no substance whatsoever.

I understand being uneasy with multinationals, I share some of that sentiment, but I have seen what it is like when you have no multinational interest in your country and that kind of poverty can be just as bad as their corruption. this brings me back to my obsession with balance, because that is what is needed.
LeGioNoFZioN 2 years ago
The incredible unchecked power of white male multi-national corporations has nothing to do with "multi-national interest." Multi-national corporations act ONLY in THEIR OWN INTEREST. They systematically RAPE the developing nations of the world -- and have done since the 16th century.
Interest in other countries of the world is, of course, a good and necessary thing -- sadly lacking in Republican political policy.
taoofmichael 2 years ago
I am not for unchecked power, again balance, but the island my family is from has minimal mutinationals present, and poverty is high. the only way my dad was able to get to Canada was because he worked as a salesman for a multi-national. a balanced presence of certain companies CAN help to advance the people and society but it must be balanced. Currently the only countries investing there are Canada and China, and I trust the companies from Canada much more than I do the chinese.
LeGioNoFZioN 2 years ago
The canadian companies invest and are looking for something in return. exploitation fo resources, but China asks for nothing in return and that scares me. what business does China have with a tiny island far away with less Chinese than Canadians living there ? they must want something, and its either not released to the public, or the government is too naive to think ahead of their own selfish needs. Paving roads can get you re-elected.
LeGioNoFZioN 2 years ago
How about a third alternative? How about investment in the people of your island, by the people of your island. Small businesses empowering regular folks, growing, building, and trading with the nations of the world. Sure, standard of living will grow slowly -- but when it is achieved, will be more stable and sustainable.
Sadly, I think, developing nations, after long histories of colonization, have been left with few choices. But that can change. And must, for the sake of world stability.
taoofmichael 2 years ago
to be honest that is what I have advocated for, but Vincys want more, like other islands have, in terms of quality of life, options at one's disposal, and health care options. I understand that want, because it has influenced the exodus out of St Vincent for the last 60-70 years, even before the end of colonialism. It is very challenging for the government, and it has lead to some bad choices for the people and the island, especially from the IMF.
LeGioNoFZioN 2 years ago
Sounds like St Vincent has some real problems. I dont doubt that. Again, I am learning about something I know nothing about -- so thanks for that. My gut feeling is that Obama's way of governing will only help the people of St Vincent to accomplish the things that it sounds like you and I agree they can and must. Again, thanks for the discussion. Highly enlightening.

re: LegionOfZion
*shrug* I usually watch Rachel Maddow on iTunes podcast or Tivo.
Oddly I had been listening to her 3 hour radio show for about a year before she got a TV show.
Radio-show is basically dead now tho. Just a rebroadcast of the TV show.

Maddow is ok, but I'm not advocating for her here.

At least Obama doesn't try to be "hood." And at least he plays b-ball.
badtown88 2 years ago
ha ha ha ha, that doesn't make him any more "hood" than you. Politicians all lie and play games whether Steele or Obama, no difference really
LeGioNoFZioN 2 years ago
No shit. Do you really think you're telling me something? My point was, Obama doesn't try to appeal to the "hood" and Steele does, and he looks like a bafoon everytime he tries it.
badtown88 2 years ago
Steele does look like an idiot, but I argue so does any of these politricksters. Maybe Obama was too busy counrting whites to appeal to the hood but both these guys are guilty of pandering for votes, and I don't care who looks more pathetic, because they both are sadly foolish political opportunists.

Nobody bothered to tell this shitter that he was the Token. He really is a kook from way back.
Hollyinla 2 years ago
Actually, he was probably okay with the idea of being the party TOKEN. I just don't think he realized he was going to be the party MASCOT.
You know, like the poor bastard who has to walk around in a foam-rubber chicken outfit while both his team and the opposing team kick him in the butt to make the fans in the bleachers laugh at half time?

You nailed it. I just think he enjoys getting kicked in the butt. Sad individual, that one.

The tent comment was definetely worse, no one said " Steele what the hell are u talking about" ahah

Yikes. This made me cringe.
What's next? Is he going to do a hip hop/GOP video?

What a goofy party. I wonder how long this "we cool" thing lasts before they just say fuck it and put the real leader (Rush) out there and say "take it or leave it you socialists. We got guns."
burntonion05 2 years ago 4
rush is smart enough to manipulate millions out of dittoheads -- he knows what he is doing. he is leader of the contraryists which is now a majority of the republican party -- but i think he knows he can't carry off a revolution with just a bunch of angry old retired white guys. that and he is making too much money off a good thing -- why change?
gisforgary 2 years ago 5
I think the Medicare Drug plan removed the moral authority from the repubs to talk about socialism. What a freaking scam that was. Forcing taxpayers to pay retail prices for drugs any disadvantaged person could have gotten for free just by having their doctor fax in a form letter to the patient assistance program. The trillions borrowed will have to be paid back by taxes and that is distribution of wealth from people who aren't even born yet to corporate cronies.

Man...this Steele dude is a joke!
