If you look up the mini V8s on here you will find that, of course you can tell by the sound that it is small, but you can tell that it is still a v8. and the mini ones sound awesome. I want to build one. and that car does sound awesome. running 2 bullet mufflers.

i have asked a couple of other SHO owners this but do you think it is possible to put a 32V Northstar V8 from a caddy in a base model 99 taurus se. the reason is is because we have a caddy that had been hit in the side and i want to pull the motor out and put it in my taurus. i wish i could find a V8 SHO 4 sale here in orlando. i would just buy it instead
you could always throw in a 5.0, I would find a 5.0 H.O. EFI and build it up before you drop the engine, I mean a 5.0 with heads, intake, longtubes, etc makes good numbers, and I personally think the 5.0's sound better than the 4.6's, but thats just me, but I do like the 4.6's anways because im mostly a Ford guy haha. But I do like all muscle cars.
Hey I live in saint cloud and I will sell you a nice 99 sho for $1600 running, 134k Motor is quiet and trans shifts like a top, The a/c went out in it and it shows its usual wear for being 10 years in age but still imaculent for its age.
Actually only the heads are Yamaha. The short block is Ford casting. Yamaha put the heads on Fords block and sent it back to Ford. The heads are the only weak point in these engines unless you weld the cams then almost bulletproof.
Wrong..the engine block is Ford aluminium casting done in Ontario Canada using a "Cosworth process" but cast by Ford. The heads are designed by Yamaha and the engine assembled in Japan then shipped back to Ford. 207 CID engine. 3.4 litre. 237.4 horses. I own a toreador red 97 SHO V8 w/aftermarkets done by FPM in Atlanta. Marginally quick at a 13.81 1/4.
yes like I said. designed by cosworth. ford did cast it but it's a cosworth design. btw I heard doug at FPM is comming out with a big bore 4 liter short block for the sho here soon....I'm getting one as soon as it's available and having him put a blower on it. :)

There are not many mods for the V8 but mine are HE coils, welded, massaged and polished runners, cone filter, 3 stage chip, shift kit, ext. tranny cooler, colder plugs, flowmasters with no resonator and no 3rd cat, 75 hp Zex dry shot. ok, ive got a question, ive got an 02 taurus, if i find a wrecked SHO and i took the engine, tranny and ecu, would it be fairly easy to swap engines? would i have to take anything else out of the SHO to put in my car? cause i think that would be original, a 3rd gen SHO.
Sounds like an awful lot of work for very little payoff. I just saw a Gen 3 on craigslist for $2,500 in L.A., it looked clean. Sounds alot easier to just find one and buy it.
well your right, it would be a lot easier to find one and buy it, but wheres the fun in that. for some ppl its not about how much work it was or what the payoff was, its more about the satisfying feeling you get when your done building it and tweaking it knowing that you did it yourself and didnt have to pay $30,000 to get a car that could go as fast as, or maybe even faster then a mustang gt.
I believe it was around 200-205 HP at the wheels. I also saw somewhere that this SHO is the fastest N/A GEN III in the 1/4 mile, 14.6 seconds with the auto. Now if he could get a 5 speed in there, it would probably run high 13's to very low 14's.
WHY DID FOR NOT BASE THIS OFF OF THE 3.0 DURATECH INSTEAD OF 2.5? I think if they would of made this 3.7 liter,hense 221 windsor of years ago,and marketed it with 260 hp,then it would of sold,this engine,regardless of how cool it sounds, just needed more C.I.D.

Because they rock, that's why. I own one almost identical to the one in the video, and even stock, it walks all over most ricers. I think the engine is the perfect match for this almost invisible car.

Ive heard nothing but praise about him and his tuning abilities, also his electrical work. My friend Mario told me that he was running just a small battery in the trunk for power. His SHO is what I want mine to be like!
Personally I think it might, but you would need to overhaul EVERYTHING and then find a tranny that would run the rear wheels. Its not worth it, get a SportTrac Adrenaline

89-95 are v6s. The 5 speeds came with a 3.0 liter engine and the automatics came with a 3.2 liter engine.
96-99 are v8s and they all have an automatic transmission with a 3.4 liter engine.

ok, ive got a question, ive got an 02 taurus, if i find a wrecked SHO and i took the engine, tranny and ecu, would it be fairly easy to swap engines? would i have to take anything else out of the SHO to put in my car? cause i think that would be original, a 3rd gen SHO.

Sounds like an awful lot of work for very little payoff. I just saw a Gen 3 on craigslist for $2,500 in L.A., it looked clean. Sounds alot easier to just find one and buy it.

well your right, it would be a lot easier to find one and buy it, but wheres the fun in that. for some ppl its not about how much work it was or what the payoff was, its more about the satisfying feeling you get when your done building it and tweaking it knowing that you did it yourself and didnt have to pay $30,000 to get a car that could go as fast as, or maybe even faster then a mustang gt.

I believe it was around 200-205 HP at the wheels. I also saw somewhere that this SHO is the fastest N/A GEN III in the 1/4 mile, 14.6 seconds with the auto. Now if he could get a 5 speed in there, it would probably run high 13's to very low 14's.

WHY DID FOR NOT BASE THIS OFF OF THE 3.0 DURATECH INSTEAD OF 2.5? I think if they would of made this 3.7 liter,hense 221 windsor of years ago,and marketed it with 260 hp,then it would of sold,this engine,regardless of how cool it sounds, just needed more C.I.D.

@mooserack99 The very idea of making a V8 front drive "sport" sedan is ridiculous. I love how Ford was stupid enough to do it. FWD+alotta hp=torque steer. front drive sucks.

@neurocytohemotoxic Don't forget about the '06-? Impala SS. It's got it even worse. Not only does it have a V8 powering only the front wheels, but it's a 300hp 5.3L instead of 240hp 3.4L. I love the idea of a V8 powered family sedan, but making one fwd defeats the purpose. It's like being married to the most beautiful woman in the world only to find out that she's got a Chastity belt without a key!

@BigRed10287 Those new Impalas are a disgrace to the Impala name. Impalas's used to be rear drive and badass. GM made a fast V8 powered sedan recently. And it was rear drive and good looking. I am referring to the Pontiac G8. Unfortunately GM axed Pontiac.

@neurocytohemotoxic I think you the point I was trying to make. I never said that the current Impala SS was a good car or that I even liked it for that matter. I was merely making the point that while it does seem like a bit of a waste to use the V8 in the SHO Taurus because of its FWD, it's an even bigger waste using the 5.3L V8 in the impala SS because of it's extra power and weight the the front tires have to work with. I definitely agree with you that the G8 shouldn't have been axed!!

His secondaries are wired open. You can tell because there's no IMRC box and by the distinctive howl the engine makes. Tranny may be chipped as well.

dammmm that sounds good. i have the 2000 ford taurus SEL with 200 horse power and thats exactly what i want it to sound like but its a V6 so idk if i can get it like that. do you have any suggestions on how to make my car sound like that and perform somewhat like it. i want it to sound beefy and V8 like. thank you ahead of time

because they thought the SHo name plate would still seel and they wanted to market it with more power so with available V8 power sounded good. to bad the car cost 30 grand and no one bought it.

Because they rock, that's why. I own one almost identical to the one in the video, and even stock, it walks all over most ricers. I think the engine is the perfect match for this almost invisible car.

Personally I think it might, but you would need to overhaul EVERYTHING and then find a tranny that would run the rear wheels. Its not worth it, get a SportTrac Adrenaline
