  • i was scared enough going 200km/h how did you manage 260? i have the n/a. those turbo front splitters, are any good at those speeds? nice vid/car!

  • @Psychopathis The Speedster yet even goes beyond 270, I do not know the real top speed because it is not really nice to go this fast with this little car. The standard turbo "lips" are not really an aerodynamic improvement. I have mounted a front splitter and an aluminium rear diffusor which makes high speed driving *much* more safe, the car sucks itself to the ground, you can feel it very strong. With original setup doing more than 200 was very unstable indeed.

  • Was das VX performance tuning angeht bin ich mir nicht ganz sicher. Projekt opel verwendet ab 265 ps bereits andere Pleuel und kolben. Ich denke für Leistungen ab 300 ps wird das unverzichtbar. VX macht nichts in diesr Hinsicht, was die Standhaftigkeit der Maschine in Frage stellt.

  • @golf1diesel That was the Speedo. Today I use racelogic GPS-based equipment and the acceleration is still better than in this video. Did some decent tuning since then. I love this car for it's performance. Don't care if it's an Opel. :)

  • @VXstage3 there are dacia logans with 1.6 with Mercedes kompressor getting 170 hp and they are fast like a Golf 3 VR6 :D so important are only weight and hp in a straightline..and aerodynamics ofc..i like the Speedster..how many manufacturers have a car like Elise or Speedster?

  • @VXstage3 hahaha i am sure you do..why haven`t anybody seen the vbox data???hmmm wonder wonder....if you haen`t tuned this car more than last last time, it`s physical impossible to improve acceleration data on a gps measurement.. because a speedo is always weeeey off @ leat in does speeds.. we had a opel astra tdci or somthing like that. and i put the vbox in the window the speedo was accurate as hell up to 170kph gps just 6.7kph off. but we hit 240kph on the speedo and the gps told us 208.1kph

  • thx a lot! hopefully it will last some time. i'm just building it up getting some more hp, the video was at 287hp/254Nm, this year it had 294hp/474Nm and in spring it may have some 300 to 310hp. the z20let engine is a real workhorse. a steam engine :)

  • Why insane? It's a quite normal ratio, third gear tops out at some 160km/h (95mph). So at 80km/h you just have some 3300 rpm...

  • so there must be some difference between regular cars...

    i usually use the 4th gear (out of 5) at 50 km/h, and then the 5th until 120 km/h (limit)

  • Ja das sieht ordentlich aus :) Mit den Serienscheibchen rennt man sich bei der Leistung auch schnell das Hirn ein.... 900 Kilo sind allerdings wenig, bist Du nur mit Felgen und Auspuff so weit runter gekommen oder hast du noch andere Modis wie Motorsportbatterie etc. verbaut? Und noch eine für mich sehr wichtige Frage: Ist das permanente, nervtötende Bremsen-Schleifen nach Umbau verschwunden? Gruß und Sorry für das Löcher-in-den-Bauch Gefrage....

  • Räder wiegen weniger, ein paar andere Kleinigkeiten, etwa 900kg. Vielleicht 910. Plus Fahrer, der das wieder versaut. Bat ist normal.

    Quietschen der Bremsen in Konfigurationsfrage. Mit meinen Compound-Scheiben quietscht es mit Ferodo DS2500 nicht, mit Pagid RS14 hingegen unerträglich. Muss man jeweils austesten.

  • Tolle Fahrleistungen, absolut kein Vergleich zur ohnehin nicht lahmen Serie. Da macht schon alleine das Zusehen Spass :))) Hast Du andere Kolben und Pleuel verbaut oder ist die Hardware Serie? Ich spiele auch mit dem Gedanken, einen Radikalumbau über Winter durchzuziehen, scheue aber noch die Kosten und den Aufwand. Beim Speedster kommt man ja immer vom Einen ins Andere.... :]

  • Keinerlei Änderungen an Block oder Kopf! Das war für mich die Voraussetzung, damit im Falle des Defekts leicht und kostengünstig Ersatz beschafft werden kann. Fahre nun schon seit 7/06 mit 261, dann ab 10/06 mit 284 und seit 02/09 mit 294PS und 474Nm herum, ab und zu sogar Trackdays. Was nicht kaputt geht: der Motor! :)

  • Ich bin beeindruckt, Rennstrecke und der Motor steckt`s einfach weg... Hast du andere Einspritzdüsen verbaut und sind die Ausgleichswellen draußen? Kupplung sinter oder organisch? Wie gesagt, tolle Performance, Dein kleiner Flitzer..!! :DDD

  • Das stimmt natürlich:

    - Ausgleichswellen raus

    - 440cm³-Bedüsung

    - organische Sachs (noch die gute alte, die mit Asbest), die Serienkupplung ging bereits bei 450Nm komplett durch

  • Das wird bei mir auch im Winter anstehen, samt K04 Sport Lader. Nur was ich mit der Bremse anstelle, weiss ich nicht. Hast Du die Kobra verbaut? Bin noch am überlegen, ob Zimmermannscheiben, Sportbeläge & Stahlflex fürs erste reichen oder nicht.

  • Absolut cooles Fahrzeug mit extremer Performance. Das Auto wird von den meisten unterschätzt. Ich weis wovon ich spreche, ein Bekannter hat einen 2.2er Speedster Turboumbau. Dieses Auto ist einer der besten Performancecars in dieser Klasse. Einfach nur GEIL!!!!

    Viel Spaß noch mit deinem Opel mit Lotus Genen.

  • Mal abgesehen von der ziemlich merkwürdigen Einstellung gegenüber anderen Menschen: ich will keine Standuhr und auch keine Viertelmeile vor der Eisdiele fahren. Golf ist was für Kinder (sic!), hatte ich bereits mit 20 Jahren, 1992 sogar den ersten VR6 in der Stadt, inzwischen sind die erheblich zu langweilig. Heute muss es schon was Schnelleres sein. Aber schieb Du mal schön weiter Dein Oma-Auto um die Kurven zum Lidl. Und lass die Erwachsenen in Ruhe ihre Sportwagen bewegen. :P

  • Den Wagen verborge ich nicht einmal mehr Leuten, von denen ich weiß, dass die schnelles Fahren gewöhnt sind. Sorry, der Turbolader schockt zu sehr, wenn man ihn das erst Mal spürt. Wie hat Tim Schrick mal über einen Caterham CSR260 sinngemäß gesagt: "wenn du nicht aufpasst, zählst du bis 3 und bist tot". So in etwa passt das auch hier. ;)

    Kurz gesagt: nope! :)

  • You should have compared it to a random super bike...comparing it to a Hayabusa makes the vx220 look slow...which is certainly isn't!!

  • The owner is a close friend and I roughly knew about the potential of this monster bike. We just liked to feel how it will make up in reality and document it on video.

    Of course this bike has to go lots faster that the VX. But comparison was not our cause to do this. ;)

  • I guess it isn't easy to do 260+kph in Speedster, the steering must be very sensitive. But the performance is just amazing - 997 Turbo must be slower from 100 to 200.

  • Dude at the infos you dont mention how you you improved the car, just some photos at the beginning. I am not an expert, i have an Opel Astra coupe, is nice car but after a couple years i will buy a speedster. Can you write down what parts you added ?

  • Basically this is a VX-Performance Stage 3 engine setup with additional Bailey DV26si Blow Off / Dump Valve. Block and head are still untouched, GM stock.

    But the first thing you have to think about owning a Speedster is to improve suspension and wheels which are absolute rubbish in the original setup. I changed to an Öhlins 36HRC suspension which comes from the bike sector and has been modified for light-bodied cars like the Speedster and the Lotus Elise/Exige.

  • I don't like Opel that much myself. But this car is different. It's basically an Elise with an Opel engine and gearbox. And this engine is superb in durability and power-up capabilities. The combination is a great thing. If you're willing to get over all the little Opel and Lotus issues (both firms are known for the lack of quality) you get the remedy of an ultra fast performer for which bikes are pure competition.

  • No, Lotus uses Toyota engines right now. They used Rover engines some years ago. They do not use turbo engines, they use compressors for some models. And the displacement is 1.8 liter only, hi rev concept with variable cams.

  • Na der Klasen-Speedster ist auch eine Klasse für sich. Das ist ein höchstgezüchtetes Einzelstück, dagegen ist meiner Massenware, ein Hausfrauenspeedster.

    Aber dafür kann man mit meinem auch noch super Rundstrecke fahren und Motor und Getriebe halten deutlich mehr als 400m. :)

  • Na Hausfrauenspeedster ist deiner nun nicht ! Mit den Zeiten die du da fährst bist du von 0-200 schneller als ein 2005er Porsche 911 Turbo, bis 270 dann ca gleich schnell. Also klasse Wagen den du da hast, vom wem ist deine Phase 3 ?

  • Regelin. Auspuff Lotus Specials Cup, also Imhof. Quasi das Setup des Autobild-Tests in Oschersleben vor einiger Zeit, allerdings mit deutlich mehr Leistung.

  • geiler Speedster, hatte das vergnügen ihn in(auf) freier Wildbahn zu treffen, verdammt schnell, geiler Sound, eines der Autos schlechthin. aber deine beschleunigung hört sich runder an, ich hab bis fast 3500u/min Turboloch und danach drückt er dich einfach nur noch ganz tief in die Sitze

  • Ja, der Lader beginnt bei 2000upm zu packen und bei 3000 ist Volldampf, allerdings sogar mit gut 1.9bar. Der Druck fällt dann allerdings bis Nenndrehzahl wieder auf etwa 1.4bar ab. Der OPC-Lader schafft nicht mehr.

    War sehr interessant, einen Calibra nicht wirklich vom Heck zu bekommen. ;)

  • der speedster könnte nen 6. gang vertragen, dann würde er noch nen stück besser gehen...

  • Genau meine Meinung. Für die Serienleistung reichen die 5 Gänge allerdings auch schon aus. Nur bei ~300PS würde ein sechster Gang locker 275km/h ermöglichen. Macht aber eh keinen Spaß mehr, mit solch einem kleinen Wagen so schnell zu fahren. Die Hauptdomäne ist die Rundstrecke oder Landstraße. Kurven mit kurzen Geraden zum Sprinten. :)

  • Acually the owner of the busa knows that! And he takes the risk because avoiding every risk in life also avoids every fun of it. He say if he dies some time, at least he lived his life in a good way.

    Btw. he's a heck of a driver, licenced race driver, has won the german historic sidecar championship in 2007 and drives formular cars.

  • The guy with the Busa is a friend of mine. Noone ever thought of having "a chance". We just did a decent driving together and had some fun. If you need to race down everybody you meet that's your choice. I think different.

  • Actually I owned a Mercedes Benz SLK 320 from 2000 to 2003. This is virtually equal to the Crossfire. I sold it because it was way to cosy. If you need an airscarf, drive Mercedes. If you need a fast TV couch, drive a Crossfire. I'm none of that kind. The Speedster is for my spare time. And in my spare time I wanna feel the road, hear the car, accelerate as much as can be. Crossfire does not go with this.

  • No, it's the southeast of the A10 called the "Berliner Ring". It's a 200km autobahn ring around Berlin.

  • The Video was filmed in the unlimited sections only. OK, almost. The second acceleration shows a run out into the small limited section around Wildau. Rest is unlimited.

  • I did not think that. We only did the vid to illustrate the difference to a fast sportscar. Btw. a stock Busa does not go real 320. Use a GPS (i.e. Racelogic Performance Box) to measure real speed and you will see that 300 is about the end for stock bike.

  • Im Bereich über 250 dürfte selbst ein F1 Probleme mit einer TurboHayabusa haben. Die Zeitschrift Motorrad hat mal eine 325 PS MAB vermessen, Durchzug im sechsten Gang von 250-300 in 2,6 sec. Ferrari Enzo 200-300 17sec, Bugatti Veyron 100-300 9 sec, Haya 6,2

  • From the driven distance over time the navigation system calculates a very accurate distance per speed pulse signal. Therefore the speed indication of the navigation system is much more accurate than the car speedometer. To avoid that you drive faster than the speed limit, car speedometers show usually a speed + 2...5% higher then real speed. Usually the navigation system indicates therefore a lower speed than the car speedometer.

  • That's not true. The stock tachometer may show 340 and your real speed is still below 300km/h. Use a gps system (i.e. racelogic equipment) and you will see what I mean. ;)

  • The value of the now obtained Racelogic DriftBox for quarter mile is 13.57s @ 176.74km/h. Acceleration values in the video were made with tachometer readings so they are somehow a bit too nice. Here are the gps-based values: 0-100 in 4.5s, 0-200 in 16.8s, 0-240 in 27.8s, 100-200 (4th gear) in 9.6s, lateral 1.29g, brake 1.14g, accel 1.04g.

    2. Yes, it's now got an ohlins-suspension. The original suspension is very bad. The new is stronger but it does feel softer. Best suspension for track days in my view.

  • - Bad skid manners, if rear end starts coming round, you will end up off road most of the time. With HRC36 you control the rear wheel skid easily with throttle.

    - The original suspension very often seems to "knock the chassis" with very rude sound. With the ohlins this is no longer true.

    - The ohlins suspension is fully customizable in push and pull strength.

    The original Lotus setup which is the worst thing about the Speedster.

    4. The battle with the bike was pointless really. Even stock 180 bhp Busa will wipe the floor with you, as it is 9 sec 0-200 kmh bike, and standard going 340mkh.
