look, you pretty much cant do a "skyhook" unless your pretty tall. Reason is that KAJ was so tall/big that he could easily hold the ball with one hand (so he could hold the ball above his head) and the fact that when he jumped and had the ball in his outstretched arm the ball was already above the basketball hoop. Since this guy along with most of us is shorter, the hook shot is going to look different since we have to arc the ball in.

That's not a pure hook shot pal, a right hook shot doesn't require your torso to twist from a sideways position to a straight position facing the hoop, you need to remain sideways to the hoop, plus you never actually see your shooting hand, becuse you look at the hoop and the hand is behind. yeah, the classic way is lifting off your back leg and moving away from the defender, that way the ball is high enough in the air that it archs over them. It's almost impossible to time a block on that

If you wanna learn the skyhook, just watch some film of Kareem, and try to duplicate what he's doing.

The benefit of the skyhook, is that it is a nearly unguardable shot by man defense, if done right. Although if there is a big athleticism/height disparity or some help defense from behind (think Hedo's block on Kobe), it can be stopped.
