@maekern Great Unbiased response. Its good that someone is willing to understand that people create the stereotype not the religion itself. Good Post.
i 100% agree with you but when you study the Holy Qur'an whenever you do, i am sure that when taking the verses in context of the situation they are referring to, you will find no such messages of hate violence genocide or rape.
I find the Koran worse. Even though I consider it as Bible version 3 there are complicating circumstances.
It was written in 3 stages: soft, medium, hard. You have the compassionate era or phase, then the more demanding and lastly the militant phase. This is why you can find any version you want. What aggravates this is the language which can be mis-interpreted and abused.
So people are brainwashed by their Imams and become puppets for the system Islam, not only the religion.
@StopSpamming1 but the bible has been changed soo many times, i would think more than the Holy Qur'an... especially since some of the books are just mashups of any book. and even the old testamet talks of killing "enemies"... Isa (pbuh) changed all that tho :)
@StopSpamming1 i didn't say it hadnt been changed, i'm saying compared to the bible (which btw is only ONE COLLECTION put together by the catholic church omitting certain things that they didn't like or thought would help their case) The Bible is still considered holy amoung Muslims, but we admit it has been changed to work certain ways. I am not claiming one is better, just that the holy Qur'an is less edited than the Holy Bible, that's all.Just bc I'm Muslim doesnt mean i dont have a free mind
@StopSpamming1 i try to give a general theological answer. As a Muslim it is a REQUIREMENT that I accept and tollerate other religions, regardless of my feelings on them. As an (arm chair) academic theologian, I just want ppl to kno what they are reading lol...but read something! :P Salaam
Wow, that was a very non biased, reasonabe and educated approach. I couldn't agree with you more that people can manipulate religious doctrine in order to suit their own agenda but I would like to add a point that any ideology or values; whether secular or religious can be manipulated with a positive and or negative effect on society. Religious examples are obvious to the educated but an example of extreme secularism is the calamities of communism.
I encourage you to take the time to learn more about Islam. Talk to Muslims and read what they have written. There are more than 1.2 billion Muslims in the world. Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world. There must be something about it that is appealing to a lot of people, and satisfying to a lot of people! Don't just take the word of the media on it, read and learn for yourself and make your own decision.
Just checking, but you DO realize that he's saying NOTHING is wrong with Islam, right? It's kind of like if he was saying "Cheese is quite nice, in some ways", and you said "But cheese is good! Why are you hating on cheese?"
I'm proud of you bro, you recognize that all religions of the Book have serious problems regarding interpretation. I'm religious but I respect you for not saying that Islam is a terrorist pedophile religion. Your right its the peoples fault. Peace bro
I hope my midwestern American accent doesn't obscure the actual content of my video. Though one tries, it is hard to remember to pronounce words correctly when everyone around you says them incorrectly. I still pronounce it "volkswagen" instead of "folksvagen" out of habit, though I know I say it incorrectly.
At least I pronounce "Qu'ran" better than many people from my part of the world. :)
what !!! study ! how can you compare the two if you never read anything !!jehova never told anybody to be raped but muhammed killed millions because allah told him. yeah i agree with tysonthehoss you have successfully misinterperated the King James Bible
Congratulations, you have successfully misinterperated the King James Bible. Christianity can be misinterperated and bended in order to used as a basis for hate.
lol very well stated, i sort of got tired of seeing people simply bash on the religion, if you take a minute to think about it, its the same as any other religion, but just like the constitution, people will interpret it differently, and use it differently.
i think many times ppl personify islam, as though islam is a person, islam can only tell people do this and that or dont do this and tthat, rest is upon ppl, knowing bout what many critics of islam say bout islam especially bout violence in quran, they clearly take things out of context u know verse like 9:5, 2:191, 8:60 etc if u analyse the context they are merely talking about fighting those who fight against you. like hitler attacked britain and we defended, nothing wrong with it
Excellent perspective. I agree with maekern 100%. Instead of pointing fingers at one religion or one group, it is more useful to consider the sucesses and fails of all religions and all groups. From here we can move forward as one collective. All humans after all are the same species and all humankind has a stake in the furure of our planet that we share. The most logical answer is peace and understanding in order to move forward.
48:13 And if any believe not in Allah and His Messenger, We have prepared, for those who reject Allah, a Blazing Fire!
3:85, If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah), never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who have lost (All spiritual good).
Even with only two verses it's obvious their religion is vile and a counter to any reasonable amount of freedom.
If you hear in one of your cities, which the Lord your God gives you to dwell there, that certain base fellows have gone out among you and have drawn away the inhabitants of the city, saying "Let us go and serve other gods" which you have not known... you shall surely put the inhabitants of that city to the sword, destroying it utterly, all who are in it and its cattle, with the edge of the sword.
I'm not claiming that Islam is any better or any worse than any other major religion. Myself, I'm an atheist. But you can point to repulsive and xenophobic teachings in any of the big religions.
Well yes, but that is the point. Islam in a general sense is not better or worse than other major religions.
Additionally, the indoctrination to cast away freethought and critical thinking by major religions is so horrendous to me :)
I should have previously added that I understand your points made in the video. It's just that after reading the Quran, the peace concept is a joke unless that means all submit to Allah, never question and claim to respect females but quite obviously not do so.
Sure, I see your point there. I'm not sure how much one can condemn Islam as a religion based on verses from the Qur'an, based on my experience that Christianity as it exists now doesn't have a whole lot to do with the actual contents of the Bible. However I do see your point.
Dammit, for some reason youtube is not allowing me to make the other comment I was trying to make, but I draw your attention also to Deuteronomy chapter 20, verses 10-14
maekern said: "... nothing, that I am aware of, is wrong with Islam."
What about the fact that it's utterly wrong? I mean factually wrong. And that many muslims will unconditionally accept whatever they're told it says in the Quran? I've explained evolution to muslims and have had them agree that it sounds like a reasonable theory, only to hear them spout anti-scientific nonsense the next day because they've been talking with some "learned" friends or an Imam or whatever. How's that for wrong?
That would be a larger argument about what is wrong with religion in general. The context of the original question, at least as I understood it, was what is wrong with Islam as opposed to any other religion.
The main thesis of my video was that I don't see any "wrongness" that is unique to Islam and not present in other religions.
He didn't mention other religions at all. He wanted non-muslims to answer the question "what's wrong with Islam?". That was it. No elaboration of any kind.
Though, even so, you should have been clearer on your point. Sorry for the misunderstanding though.
I possibly should have. Fortunately, comments allow me to clarify. :) I will note that in future. "one religion vs. other religions" is a different discussion from "religion vs. non-religion" and it is worth specifying which discussion I am attempting to participate in at a given moment.
I prefer to get things from as close to the source as possible. The problem when you can't read the original language is that EVERYBODY has an agenda. The King James bible has strayed pretty far from the original hebrew texts, for example..

dude you are one of the few non-believers that actually use common sense reasoning instead of saying "religion is bad, is for the weak minded...etc."
..which proves your point and mine; its the hate of the ignorant and arrogant people that make Islam look bad :)
Peace.

yes, the truth is religion can be, and is, used to control, mislead, and insight people to acts of violence.
