Unfortunately, the full moon parties are in steep decline, having become a blatant commercial affair. The music is R&B and the beach is crawling with plainclothes police. On full moon night you'll find 90% of partygoers wandering around drunk, gawking at 10% who came to dance. Look at the videos, they tell the truth. Find another party spot because this beach scene is OVER and has been for several years. It's only a matter of time before McDonalds arrives.

I have a house in Chaloklum at the north side of the island and live at koh phangan 4 months every year.. the full moon party is cool enough but the jungle party`s are much cool`er like shivamoon and black moon which is held near the ladybars in Ban Tai..And not so much violence like the fullmoon partys! The last full moon i was on in July 07 8 people was killed in one night!! The next party in August was 3 people killed and one drowned,.So be careful and beaware of the local teenage thai gangs

Was there 3 times in a row every year but missed it two years back. back for years ago it was damn laidback and chill, still is now but probably some of the rustic feeling is gone. Still to everyone its a must place to go. I wonder whether that raggae cafe is still up at serenity's hut! Wooohooo
