I get a lump im my throat when Stuart addresses the crowd here. I became a lifelong fan of Big Country when I saw them live on their first American tour. I was 17 and it was one of the most electrifying, emotional and inspiring concerts I've been to. I was absolutely sure that they were going to take America by storm and become huge here. Shame on my fellow Yanks for not embracing such an incredibly talented and passionate band. It's their loss. God bless Stuart always. A beautiful human being.
@Nigelxman I could not agree with you more. This band should have been as big as any of them. How a band can have as many great songs as this band and yet be considered a one hit wonder is so unfair.i think that a huge mistake was made by not getting a second hit song out of the album The Crossing.I think that "Chance" should have been released as a second single in North America. It is a great song and i think it would have given them a second hit and a bit more momentum in America.Canadian Fan.
@callysastle Oh yeeeees. If I could be reincarnated back in time, I would wish only to come back as Stuart's guitar. Those fingers! Only a woman could appreciate it :). What a lucky guitar.
This is the career choice for those who try out for the volleyball or hockey team and then get cut from the towel boy responsibilities and then devote their lives in a basement to cut a tune or two (or steal one). Yes, I am jealous....I love music...just not a fan of the many fools who play it.
@swassontelus no one's stealing anything...who are the fools exactly? This is just Big Country having a good old time on stage, you do know that right? I think it's ok to do a cover every so often after pumping out boat loads of brilliant original material, which is clearly and readily displayed to the right of this video. By that time, they created 9 years worth of brilliance, or put another way, a whole Hell of a lot more than 2 tunes. And BC fans don't throw donuts.
I don't need lectures on depression or any other mental illnesses. GIve me a break. I was not asking why Stuart killed himself. Duh. Save your diatribes. And CAPITALIZING text doesn't make anyone read it with greater interest. Stop yelling.
I love that BC chose to cover this Neil classic. Focus on the music. I know very well that Stuart suffered. I'd rather remember his brilliant compassion for humanity.
UniPolar Disorder (Clinical Depression) is the #1 cause of so-called "suicide" deaths and is going to be the 2nd most common PHYSICAL illness worldwide by 2020! EVERYONE needs to wake up and help those who are sick, in misery; even if they SEEM sunny & functional. They NEED SUPPORT, COMPASSION, ADVANCED healthcare and unconditional love/friendship/companionship/listening...at LEAST. Look, at least we have music, videos and great memories of his functionality!
@sandilands2 Hey s***stick, you are correct, I was too busy listening to Slayer. To be honest, I read my previous rants and I know I was on rum. Yeesch. Since that post, I've lost 20 lbs and picked up a guitar and bought every album from Big Country. Peace bud.
a little girl named Annie was killed by her ex-boyfriend because he didn't like the fact she was going out with someone else. He stabbed her in the heart with a knife and slit her throat and she bleed to death. If you don't copy and paste this onto 5 videos wthin the next 30 mins you read this, Annie will come stand next to your bed at midnight and do what her boyfriend did to her, to you. DON'T IGNORE THIS MY FRIEND DID AND SHE WAS FOUND MURDERED BY ANNIE!!
Tomtomalfa: The whole point is that we are ALL responsible in some way, not just the people in power who we vote for. For me, the song also deals with every day stuff that WE are responsible for - everything from dumping rubbish in the country side, littering the streets, grafitti, getting drunk and obnoxious to buying/selling drugs, looking away from someone in trouble because it´s easier, robbery, rape, murder etc etc - That´s what WE as a civilised population do to eachother.
Stuart was the greatest. I think I must have seen BC 12 times. The best concert I ever saw was at the De Montfort hall in Leicester in 86/87ish, followed by Arnhem in Holland about 92/93. STAY ALIVE!!
i think Neil young would be proud, he is meant to be a fan, god we miss the big man Stu! this is an awesome version of the band at their best!
Do we have many young BC Fans im 21 now - didnt get to see or hear of them until after the tragic death, when i saw them on top of the pops 2! incredible

No Stuart, we're not 'all responsible for that great big world out there' - the few are, the few who are in positions of power and who hold the purse strings, and who are fucking it up! So get real!
"wonder" why Stuart "left us" or couldn't "stay alive"!? His brain caused incessant messages sent to his mind daily that his existence wasn't worth going through the constant misery. The man had suffered a deadly illness called Clinical Depression for decades (in his case also compounded by Alcoholism). UniPolar Disorder (Clinical Depression) is the #1 cause of so-called "suicide" deaths & is going to be the 2nd most common PHYSICAL illness worldwide by 2020!
Great cover done by a great band. The musicianship, the passion,Stuarts great vocals and stage presence, pure magic.I love this video. Thanks Isabelle.God Bless Stuart.
