  • I love your videos! People are hating because they just like horses and they don't actually ride western!! If they rode horses they would understand what you were doing. This gave me great tips!

  • this video is horrible :( why were you pulling on the reins in the begining when he wasnt even moving!?!?!?!? POOR HORSEY!:C

  • LanaesRabbitry she might need the spurs because the horse might be a spur stop horse which means if you leave the spur in the horses side it will stop

  • Okay, did anyone see that lady pulling on the reins at the beginning? The reins that connected to a Tom Thumb bit? That just gave me the shivers...that poor horse's jaw :(

  • Guys I use spurs on horses that don't respond well. It doesn't hurt because I use them RIGHT. I barely even poke them I just lighty turn my heels in and it lightly touches the horse. They respond to it more. You guys drive me nuts and are sooo annoying. If you don't like them, don't use them. Everyone has a right to what they use when riding and you are just going to have to except other people's methods.

  • Whoo, that's a lot of tail-swishing.

  • Alll of you people drive me nuts! You have no idea what this horse and rider are like, with or without spur. Spurs should not be used with an INEXPERIENCED RIDER.

you have so much to say about this girl and her horse.... why not put up a video of yourself and show us how to do it if you are all such good riders. If not then dont talk.

  • Spurs are dangerous and abusive to animals! NEVER use spurs on ANY animal! You pull out the fur and injure the animal.

  • @Wolfgirl2help no they r specially made........they r dulled...dont worry

  • @ilovemyhorse8077 It doesnt matter. You should never use spurs. It's a horrible thing to do to an animal

  • @Wolfgirl2help Spurs are ment for cue refinement. Spurs are only as harsh as the rider makes them. The rider can choose to be very light with their spurs or very heavy.

  • @Wolfgirl2help they are a tool used to aid your ques. same as a bit, saddle, anything you use on a horse. You think everyone should ride with nothing at all? Can't do that in the show pen, sorry.

  • @EveryonesQT A bit and saddle don't leave scars or cuts. I rescue horses and many of them have missing fur patches because of spurs. A riding crop is just as effective without the possibility of injuring your animal.

  • @Wolfgirl2help your joking right? I have seen bits rip horses mouths apart, saddles leave rub soars and crops leave welts. Anything can cause damage if they are used wrong. Not everyone uses these tools harshly so don't go thinking its all bad. Its cool you rescue horses, but those were probably the ones with the bad owners. Another thing with the crop, you think a crop can lift a horses rub cage, collect him and make him go in a slow western pace? I think not.

  • "im going to gouge her in the side with a peice of metal" an effective way to make her listen to your legs -.- loser

  • Lol western.. my horse freaked when i had to go into one of the western arenas while one of the jumpers arenas was being watered. They were doing like those spinning things lol idk what to call them and like the thing where they run and make them stop dead on and my trainer was like "This is a jumper and there horses worst nightmare, Lets go to the cross country field.. your horse is freaking out at the sight" haha (im not trying to put down western, i just dont get why people enjoy it..)

  • @Equestar123

people can say exactly the same thing about jumping.

it all depends on your riding taste.

  • @rawrwillzilla I said i wasnt putting down western.. i just said i *dont get* why people like spinning and galloping up and down the arena, whats the skill in it?

  • @Equestar123 there's skill in all sorts of riding. it's all in the communication one has with their horse. the horse isn't going to spin and gallop on its own in an arena without commands from its rider, therefore one would need skill.

  • @Equestar123 its called reining, and its like dressage with a western saddle. equally as demanding as jumping and hunters. It is amazingly fun, just like jumping and all of those things too :)

Try it sometime and you will know why people like the spinning and galloping up and down the arena :)

  • @Equestar123 Think of it as western dressage, it takes an extreme amount of skill and training and hard work. I found it a little irritating that your trainer said it was "a jumper and their horse's worst nightmare." I *don't get* why its a horse's worst nightmare. That's like me saying that Dressage is a horse's worst nightmare.

  • I must say that I lost all respect for this rider when she went straight to spurs. Any credibility went right out the window when the first thing she did was use a method that causes pain.

  • So how do we TEACH a horse to snap a departure? If I give a spur and smooch and she "pitters-off" instead of snap a lope, what should I do? Spank or kick? I am afraid it will make them Blast off! Thanks for the good tips. I would enjoy the lesson more if you were using a green horse showing HowToTeach... Thanks

  • this chick is an idiot! how about calf, then spur! This mare looks broke enough to not need spurs. Get the mare a person that knows how to ride. Where, Expert Village, are you finding your so called "experts?"

  • Very sloppy way of riding. She rides like a sack of shit. She should go learn how to ride a horse. Maybe she should go on weight watchers for a while too.

  • I HATE SPURS!!! It is completely possible to ride a horse with no saddle and no bridle and NO SPURS!!! you can walk trot canter and even JUMP like this. You dont need to stick a spike into their sides. Unfortunately in some english eventing you have to wear english spurs but they are just a little lump of metal not a wheel of spikes, and the riders do not use them despite having to wear them.

  • the horse looks very uncomfertable

  • Kelly is it?.... do you ever read whats written below??? please remove all of your videos and find another sport, this is horrible.....

  • alright you guys .

quite frankly she probably knows how to ride better than all of you ,

seriously you know what most people hate on youtube ?

    you.

you guys don't shut up and you think you know it all !

these videos happen to be helping people .

your nasty comments arent gonna do anything ,

she had her heels up to but the spur on her horse she didn't have them up all the time .

get a friggen life guys .

you think you know it all .

  • @rihannafan2323 I ride better than her. She rides like a sack of shit.

  • @BarrelRacer955 its probably not er . its the comfermation on her horse .

  • @rihannafan2323 That may b part of her problem. But she still rides sloppy. Her heels are up, when they should be down. When she wants her horse to stop, she pulls the reins up by her head.

  • @BarrelRacer955 yeah some of that is right .

but you gotta remeber she wouldn't be on expert village if you knew how to ride better than her .

  • @rihannafan2323 Yeah. But i do ride better than her.

  • Yes, aboslutely heels down! That is the essential foot position of any style of riding.

The horse appears to know ahead of time what she wants, I don't think she needed spurs.

Comments about a rider's physique are not helpful as horses are very strong animals. Other videos by this person are helpful - she does know some things.

Mutual trust between horse & rider is most important - no spurs needed if this is present!

  • Aaannnd...FAIL.

You don't need to spur that horse, first of all, and second of all, her "posture" SUCKS. Her toes are down, she is hiddeously slouched, and overall looks horrible on that horse.

You don't make a freaking informational video if you don't know JACK SQUAT about what you're talking about.

  • I'm sorry but this horse does not look at all happy; my guess is that it is experiencing some pain - back or hooves? Anyhow, something is seriously wrong here. Also why do you need to use spurs to get the horse to move?! Spurs are an aid to communicate direction - not a way to force more movement.

  • the horse is going to get pissed if she keeps stopping an starting every half stride. -_-

  • she's riding wat the fuck do u dink shes doing bitch

  • Heels down lady! What the crap are you doing to that horse??

  • @Shazamm17 haha i know right... and + does she really think she can ride? lol nvm bout wat i was gona say hahahaha

  • her horse is light and responsive, but hequality of the lope is horrible!

  • amen to that.

  • honestly, im 12 and a half, i can ride better than that.

  • hey cool im 12 too :) so can i ;p

  • She pulls the reins up to her face, not in towards her belly. She leans back too much. And from the way the horse moves, you can tell that either its back or hips (or both) hurt. Even with the spurs, she is only getting a few strides of a half-assed lope out of this horse. So something is wrong here.

  • The horse looks downhill, could be why she moves a little weird

  • because shes to big for that horse id be looking sullen to if i had her on my back!

  • Yeah but see, you are a human and that is a horse. Horses are powerful, and strong creatures believe it or not

  • i think spurs are mean!

  • i hate western style riding i love english style riding but that is also because i am british

  • westerns the best

  • I HATE ENGLISH RIDING........ western 4ever

  • Oh seriouslt guys posting a message on youtube about spurs this spurs that.. Just don't even bother. It's pointless anyways.. Cause you don't even know that horse. Maybe she needs spurs.

And OBVIOUSLY shes not like kicking her full on with the spurs, shes just simply using themm.. Wow..

    Some People Amaze Me!! mmm.

  • Umm....i think your horse has to fully canter before you call it a "canter to halt transition"

and I think that spurs are a wonderful thing if you know how to use them CORECTLY! Lazy horses are not very fun to ride with out them.....I agree that can be dangeriouse, but they are perfectly fine if they are used CORRECTLY!!

If you are a beginner then start off with small rounded english spurs. And always have a trainer around when trying something new.

  • I'm interested in riding horses.. My dad's friend let me come over and ride their horses for no cost. And I enjoyed it. But, when the horse went into a lope unexpectedly, and I lost my hat, I kinda freaked.I stopped her though, and she got a little spooked at my hat on the ground lol. But I walked her away from the hat before she got REALLY spooked. Haha I'm a beginner, and I need tips. I really enjoy riding, and I want to learn more.. any tips????

  • On the issue of spurs, I think they are completly un- needed. I ride differently then both English and Western I have ridden both in the past but prefer the Parelli way better. I find that taking things in phases works way better then any traditional training I have ever had ever has.

  • some horses do need spurs believe it or not. for example: my horse would sit there and refuse to even walk when i just used my heel. i got spurs a couple weeks ago and now she's a great horse to ride. She'll do anything i ask. it's not used in a harmful way, it's just a bit more reinforced.

that's just my opinion, don't like it just ignore it.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow here is the nasty world of show horses! people think they need spurs and that every thing they do with a show horse should be done in spurs and this doesn't teach you how to lope if I went and did this to my horses they would just buck me off you don't have to "skip your spur in" you shouldn't even need a spur!

  • why do you have to "stick your spur in"?? that makes no sense, you shouldnt have to use spurs, and she says keep you heels down? her toes are going to drag the ground! poor horse

  • She doesnt really teach you how to lope, i wanna learn how, not see

  • Nice looking horse..but looks in pain. And this woman isnt really teaching anything :\ cant even ride. And whats up with automaticly starting with spurs? If you are teaching people how to tansition, don't automaticly go into using spurs. And no voice commands? Whats with just spurring her every time you want her to lope? I wouldn't watch this video if you are wanting to learn Western. Get a real trainer, this video is crap.

  • exactly my thought!

  • I agree too. Using spurs requires that the rider has control first. It is too easy to injure a horse and what is with the pointing down of the toes when she stops it is as if she looses her balance and is relying too much on the stirrups for balance as opposed to her seat and body position. I only trained in English style and have ridden western but this is not good looking...maybe she was having a bad day but the poor horse does not flow and certainly does not look as if it is happy!!

  • ya i have ridden western and english but i ride western like english lol because i like posting better but i think you should be a fairly good rider before you use spurs

  • mmhmm! Beginners don't need spurs.

And if you're a beginner on horse that needs spurring... you're on the wrong horse.

    (I post when I ride western too ;) )

  • I hope to dear god that people aren't actually listening to this lady... The horse moves like crap. The rider has no idea how to ride, look at the very straight(eye roll) shoulder-hip-heel alignment...

  • I just hope people aren't taking lessons from video anyway LOL I think everyone should have a trainer who they can go to and ask questions about videos they may have seen. I would call anyone who's only using video as a referance to learn to ride very foolish and probably in danger regardless of the video instructor.

  • I agree!

  • wow....lose the shades, take those spurs off and get some lessons

  • wow! YOU THINK UR SOOOOOOO SMART!!!!!!

  • who the f are you, this lady shouldnt be teaching people how to ride

  • If you watch the dressage 2008 olympics they use spurs and a double bridle. Look at there feet when they are using the spur the toe is turned out at that time. Seat and thighs are all used first then the spur . The spur makes the horse lighter it is an extension of your leg. It is not a bad thing to use spurs it is a tool which is used in most show rings both english and western. Good western is a variation of dressage. This horse is moving correctly she is just not that great of a mover.

  • Wow, an expert that doesn't know that she should have her heels down and legs pointing forward.

  • so, she looks like shes sore, and she's pretty much not even loping.

  • dont the spirs hurt the horse?

  • and if you watch her, shes not spuring the horse, shes rolling her spurs against his sides which inflicts no pain. wow some people on here have no brains. do you think people use spurs to flat our kick. thats how you leave holes in their sides. they are used to role them instead of kick

  • Yeah spur that horse! Why dont you try not riding with spurs lol

  • I think she did a great job even though her lope makes her look lame. But I think its hilarious how Maggiedunit always comments people on their riding but NEVER has a video of herself becuase she knows we would pick her apart! And last time I noticed about 99% of professionals use spurs and so do olympic riders. I wanna see her ride and see how great she does. But then i remember that shes just a poser.

  • And whoever said her reins were to long is wrong. they are supposed to be loose, especially if your going to show.

  • I find it interesting on how she is such an "expert" but yet she has to use spurs. When asking a horse to go you ask with your thighs and hips first, your heels/spurs she be a last resort type thing. I didnt see a lope anywhere in there, i saw a smooth trot, that makes your horse look lame but thats about it. I have a 5 year old QH mare who was broke last summer and you dont even need reins because she reads off your leg.

  • looks like a VERY healthy horse

    awesome job!

and ur a good rider too

  • that was a trot dang.

and point your heels down when you ride

  • i know she doesnt know how to ride western

  • i know and she saddles up the horse weird. she said buckling is better then the texas t

  • Please, please please, don't use a lame horse when doing your demos. This horse is lame and is showing obvious displeasure of the riders cues by swishing her tail and attempting to toss her head.

  • thanks so much for this video! i horseback ride western style, too. my name is kellie too haha!

  • she has way to much slack i the reins, really really bad to do

  • man i cant get my horse to collect his head in by pulling back with only one hand and he is a world champion at one point!

  • ya sarah is gone.

But did that horse ever lope? it looked more like a limpy trot to me. he never completely stopped either.

It probably isn't a good idea to teach beginners to use spurs from a computer. it is probably in everybodys best intrest for a trainer or instructor to be there for the whole spur training thing.

  • Finally Sara is Gone

  • This chick isn't much better. Where do they find these so-called "experts"???
