  • This was so clear and understandable.

    Thank so much.

  • @3:20 reminds me of gospel in a black church lol

  • i also practice vibrato using my palm and fist when facing mirror and i find it effective :)

  • random... Have you meet Beyonce ?

  • this one of my favorite videos and it works but takes practice

  • Hey Erik are you still in Japan?

  • I don't get it...seriously...PLZ help

  • 2:51 - excercise

  • OMG!!! THANKS SO MUCH! NOW I HAVE VIBRATOO!!! TwT

  • ahahahha i love you

  • Thank you.

  • my god is this ever a god exercise! THANK YOU! I did this for about 10 minutes and i feel like i can sing again! :D

  • lmao funny thing is that japanese vocalists i like are the reason i looked this up because i'm having trouble keeping up with their vibrato.

  • I thought I was doing it, but that was you.

  • I hope I can see you around here in Japan!

Amazing videos by the way (:

  • omg u gotta be my voiec teacher! xD

  • anyone.

i think my throat is damaged, can i still do a natural vibrato ??

  • dym i actually did it .. i can sing vibrato .!!!

  • such an amazing voicee

  • i wish you were my singing teacher haha funny singing workout

  • you help me lots! thanks!

  • What's that song about the lamb you started to sing? I like it alot!

BTW: Vibrato is produced naturally when the vocal folds are relaxed and supported correctly. I see what you were going for with the alternating pitch demonstration though.

  • I tried doing that, but still i cant do it

  • @shihui91 it's just practice :D don't worry!

  • Dude, great vid. But, where did you get your necklace?

  • @whistlebug23 LOL! Bought that in Japan in the village.

  • I started singing over a month ago. I SUCKED. Now I am actually getting better. Just takes practice. It's ALL about learning how to control your vocal chords. That simple. Most people think they can get good just by humming in the shower every so often, but if you really practice--say, 1 hour a day, then you'll notice a difference. And be very critical of yourself. Record what you sing and listen to it. See what works and what doesn't. It'll come.

  • When you vibrato, should you feel like you are using stomach muscles? Because vocal teachers say that is what should happen. When I used your technique, which I had used before I saw this video, I still felt a pull in my stomach. Is this right? Or am I damaging my larynx muscles which could ultimately cause damage.

  • Erik, You have explained vibrato better than any singer or teacher I know. I am a singer and musician. I can tell you know your stuff. Don't worry about what others think. The switch on a Midi is the Pitch Bend Lever which best explains how to bend tones to sound like a vibrato. Maybe you should explain the anatomy parts involved in a Vibrato. Great job!

  • WOW...this is so amazing!!!!

  • LOLOLOL funny and informative video.

anyways...how long do you think it takes to develop vibrato?

can someone reply to this and tell me how long it took you?

  • I've tried this technique but seem to only get vibrato on those notes I did the exercise with. Familiar problem? And it doesn't come naturally all the time :( I need a natural vibrato NOW!

  • how long does it take for a normal person to learn vibrato ? does it really take yrs ??

  • You are fun!

  • This was helpful thank you

  • Great vid.

  • I had fun watching and I liked the tips you gave. I actually have a pretty nice natural vibrato, but I tried the two note method you gave anyway, and I noticed that it actually gave me more control and enhanced the vibrato I already had so thnx 4 sharing! Oh yeah, by the way, U kinda remind me of Carlton from the fresh prince of bel-air.... LMAO!! =D

  • that was amuazing lol

  • oh my god this is so good :O

  • WOAAAAH!!!!!! i loveed it you are amazing!

  • I favourited this video!

  • HAHAHAHAHA you are so damn funny! Thanks :P

  • omg you make it look so easy!!

  • It's real cool. I like how you put that part of the lady who couldn't sing.

  • That is a trill not a vibrato.

  • thanks man. you're super awesome.

  • hey bro i totally agree with your technique of vibrato....but i would like to know if its the same concept for vibrato users like keri hilson or J. Moss... theirs reminds me of a guitars tremelo or vibrato

  • you have a beautiful voice :) thanks you so much with the lessons!

  • L.O.Freaking.L

Thank you so much. All your videos have and are really helping me.

You're great. AND you live in Japan.

    <3

  • THANKS!!!!

  • >_< I've been trying for a month now, I'm doing no good! I do have a little vibrato, but you can barely hear it, but in video's. You can't hear it :(

  • CAUSE your amazing just the way you are. . im hoping this vid will help me and the others :D i really love how you talk

  • You are HILARIOUS and extremely likable, thanks for being so informative! I wish I had the money for skype lessons, haha! Keep up the great work.

  • THANK YOU so much for the clarification. I'd always thought that vibrato was literally an up-down-up-down-up-down, not a skillful pulsation. I'd been trying to speed up the up-down-up-down for months, and was having hardly any progress. I can do real, good sounding vibrato decently now (still gotta practice), but at least now I'm on the right track.

  • Wow! Thanks for tips! I've always thought you move your jaw to do a vibrato, seen so many singers in videos doin that, I've been doin it wrong this time lol.

  • Check out some of my singing videos just wanna know how I do on my singing and my breathing when I sing

  • Lol.....you are a silly silly man, but that's cool. And thank you for the tips! I appreciate it very much. God bless.

  • I have to practice what you demonstrated but thank you for explaining this in such detail and made it very easy to follow for someone who needs a lot of help with vibrato. Thank you for posting such great videos! I am just starting to sing professionally and need all the help I can get. I have watched many of your videos and they are really great. I feel like I am there with you taking lessons! Your voice is truly amazing.

  • hmmm about your bit about 'destroying the voice'. Now hmmmm I am VERY conscious of this: THAT with old school Gospel for example there is SO MUCH SOUL!!!!!!!!!!!! It is raw. BUt errr with more modern gospel and including soul there is too MUCH 'pretty singin'!! Feel me? THAT to me is destroying the SOUL.

All the too much worry about pretty voice and hair reminds me of typical white singing before Blues, Soul arrived!!

  • man be honest ...can everyone learn this vibrato technique?or just people with born talent?

  • @s1a2m3a4r5a6 I promise you, anyone can learn to do this technique. It just takes focus and patience. =)

  • @s1a2m3a4r5a6 i never BELIEVE THAt everyone CANT LEARN VIBRATO .. all just yo do is practiced ...hard..and believe to your self cause if you like it you will get it..!

  • @sassysb3000 Thank you!! LOL!!!!!

  • I seem to only be able to vibrato when i close my jaw/mouth more, does this mean i doing it wrong?

  • how much ure voice has to be strong to make vibrato? I'm dreaming to sing song with vibrato but I don't know if i'm capable to do that.......i'm good in singing straight tones but this vibrato is really hard for me. sorry for my English...xD

  • Bruh, its obvious you love and your passion for music is what motivates you. I'm just so glad i'm a beneficiary of it. Thanx man!!!

  • @Golattitude Hey there...thanks so much for the support! I appreciate that! =)

  • lol i keep trying but i can't get it :(. I really want to know how to use the vibrato, damnit!

  • i have a question, how much do u think smoking effects singing? im trieng to stop just to futher my singing abilities.

  • @ladyleakk104 Smoking is very bad for your voice. I quit almost 3 years ago, and I sing so much better. Everyone says there's a huge difference with my singing now because of it. I never had enough air when I smoked. I can sing songs by Mariah Carey, and other artists I couldn't do before because I didn't have all of my air supply. And you need all of your air supply when singing. Smoking also dehydrates you so you have to drink even more water. Quit smoking and your feel and sound better!! :)

  • lmao!

  • The inserts are funny, hehehe

  • im sooo glad your vocal lessons aren't boring :)

  • The way to sing from slow to faster is perfect to understand it

(sorry for my English, I'm Spanish).

    xx

  • i did i know how to sing

  • nice

  • Hey umm I just wanted to know how long do i have to do this before i actually get the vibrato?

  • @airohhh Hey there...thanks for watching. There are a few lessons that I had to remove from YouTube for technical reasons. Don't worry, you're still good with everything that I have available out here. And thanks for the great feedback.

  • @daisyloveism LOL! Hey...thank you so much for that. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • i just wanted to say thank you so much this video helps.....

  • Best tutorial I've seen.....and I've seen many!

  • @lxiong1976 Thanks sooooo very much for that! I am humbled and appreciative! =)

  • You know my problem is people always say I sing like I am talking. and have no emotion in my voice. and I have scratched my throat and hurt my voice practice but its still straight LIKE U SAID and I also have that annoy pitching sound. I wanna sing like u!! please tell me I can learn

  • I do like the technique, but I still can't do vibrato, which I understand no one is perfect on their first attempt. How often should i practice this technique?

  • I never thought about being a singer, until the Holy Spirit hit me; I want to sing gospel, so I starting trying to sing the “Lord’s Prayer” and the “23 Psalm.” Therefore, I go to my laptop and typed in singing lessons…God be the glory!!!! You came alive on YouTube. I just want to thank for all you lessons of excellence, I practice your lessons faithfully, and your instruction are impeccable.

  • Man!!!It's very hard ti do it fast!!!Any tips???Please help - Your vibrato rocks!!!!

  • This was very helpful.

  • are you famous?? great voice so im just gonna go to the first lesson:)

  • 5 stars mate!

  • *0* It really works!!!!! Tks!!!

  • Creative tutorial video. Thx.

  • WOW. Man I've been singing for years but never got into the technical stuff.Been trying to learn some Muse songs and I read the singer uses vibratto so I searched to see what that is.Your vid really helped!!

  • this i great man! im trying my best.. but ive noticed a few rocksingers (axl rose and so forth) who tends to use vibrato at real high notes... i guess they use vibrato in a similiar way or is it some special trick for high pitches? much appreciated!

  • Dude, you rock. All the other vibrato stuff is crap. You rock like heck. Oh yah, your an awesome singer too.

  • @MrYowolfman Thanks so much for that feedback!! I appreciate it tremendously! =)

  • You're hilarious. Great vid.

  • Excellent video! Great voice man! Hey what's the name of the song, at the very beginning and end of the video? Thank.

  • Most people have stiff vocal chords. To sing with vibrato you need flexible vocal chords. Correct breath control is also needed in order to produce a natural vibrato. Some people are born with a natural ability..most are not! I kind of agree with the half tone exercise, but any coloratura fast moving exercise with correct breath support will achieve the same effect. If you think it's a quick fix it isn't. In most cases it takes a good 2 - 3 years to develop a well produced vibrato

  • @Prolyrictenor Thanks for your feedback! =)

All, please know that differential note control (i.e. runs, riffs, licks = melismas) & vocal techniques such as vibrato are powered by the thyroarytenoid muscles that are located parallel to the folds. Vibrato is not dependent solely on the vocal chords. The development of proper diaphragmatic support & vibrato control varies from student to student. For some it could take years, & for others, it can take days. I've taught both situations. =)

    ~E~

  • @lloyd614 indeed vibrato is not solely dependent on the vocal chords. A natural vocal vibrato can be cultivated from a physiological tremor in the cricoids and thyroarytenoid muscles. Correct diaphragmatic support must be used. Personally I have never had a student develop vibrato in days unless they have a natural ability and vibrato is naturally present. :)

  • @Prolyrictenor Agree - I love talking about vocal anatomy; especially with those who understand it! Yeah, it's crazy b/c in Asian culture, I've had a few "exceptional" students who grasped the concept and with strong focus, were able to smooth out and control their vibrato in a short period of time. But again, this is a rarity, b/c like you said, for most people, it does take time to gain total control over the technique. =)

  • lmao @ the skillet

  • I loved this video! It has helped a lot! Thanks! (Also, it's hilarious with the little clips things!)

  • cool(:

  • ¬¬

  • Love this lesson! Really helpful!
