What's the big deal? Middle-aged men used to marry and copulate with 12 year old girls. I wouldn't do that, personally, but my point is that that's WAY more taboo than a 21-and-16 type relationship (which I've personally witnessed evolving into happy and successful marriages several times in my life.) It's one thing for parents to forbid such relationships, but for completely unrelated people to condemn such relationships is an appalling invasion of personal choice and freedom.
