@BoltThrower2000 actually the word rap is a backronym, it was infact turned from "rapping" as in talking... to "r.a.p" as a defined music within the industries progression. Shortly after classical blue's joined the hip hop culture with a new flare and became r.n.b - rhythem and blues.
So your both fools. Rap was not an Acronym, and rap WAS a verb (unless we're livin in the 80's again?)
At any rate, your still both fools for argueing about something so pointless. Rest In Paradise Eyedea
@dagster11 Rap is a verb. Example: I love listening to Eyedea rap. And "Rap" is not an acronym for "rhythm and poetry." It was actually pulled from a slang word for conversation. And "Hip Hop" is from a Sugar Hill Gang's song called, "Rapper's Delight."
@BoltThrower2000 You're cool, you called me a name. Maybe if you knew anything about hip hop you'd know that "MC" can be used in that way. MCing is one of the 4 elements of hip hop, read any HH history book. Sorry the culture doesn't follow the laws of grammar, but I guess art is supposed to be grammatical. Graff,Bboying, MCing, DJing, and arguably beatboxing are the elements.
Don't talk about something you don't know about...Dumbass....jk its stupid to use insults over stuff like this.
treverwgoodchild? you try doing a tour and see if you can do every song to studio quality? the thing w/ eyedea live is that theres so much of his soul in one song that it's so much more effective when he does it that way. you can feel his pain? shut the fuck about a 16 bar song this is real hip hop not some shitty lil wayne you probably like
That's simply the end of this song... it changes into that beat on the album as well.
Anybody who says anything about Eyedea being terrible is fucking retarded and should go watch their lil' Wayne videos. Eyedea is Hip Hop at the fullest, no matter how different his new shit is... and he dances circles around cats in battles... look it up, fool.
eyedea doesn't suck.... some people just aren't smart enough to process what he is saying and they throw temper tantrums just like grade school bullies to hide there insecurity and ignorance.....in short Eyedea =AWESOME
Seconded. Eyedea is part of the glue that holds hip-hop together. If you don't like Eyedea, don't watch his videos. Otherwise, I say he's the fucking shit.
Hi "Wordtoyamom" I would suggest some education on hip hop for you before reacting so emotionally to reasonable critique. Are you perhaps 9 years old? In which case, I apologize, as you obviously still need experience. If not, perhaps instead of name calling you might benefit from taking a hint, and doing your own research on what makes a good rap song, as far as cadence, stage presence, delivery etc go. I am an Emcee from ATX & respect good rap when i hear it. It isn't luck it's skill.
E&A is alternative hip hop, not you're classic stuff done by 5%ers or pretty much any old school. Elements of hip hop for the music itself is mainly DJing and MCing, and E&A has DJing, and MCing, hell yea. MCing consists of rapping, check, heart pounding delivery, check, and many other factors. If you're into old school, good for you, I've found the NGE stuff to be some of the most fascinating stuff that I even wrote my term paper on them (religious deviation) It's what floats you're boat.
There are basic things that make a good rap song versus reciting a poem to a beat.
I like E&A but this was not even avante garde hip hop, like say Dose One of Subtle does.
Heart pounding delivery? Really? More like out of breath panting.
And @ blackdahliafox--> this is not a religion, people are allowed to critique the artists they like..please grow up..what is this, a middle school forum?
@ 2:30, are you telling me that his cadence there is not smooth? You say reciting a poem is not the point, but Sole does very little rhyming whatsoever, yet he is considered good by many. Same with Cage. Eyedea rhymes, Cage just rambles. Subtle is more laid back, E&A is more nerve wracking. It's what floats your boat. I like 2:30 b/c it keeps me on edge. It's preference. What's interesting is that you refer to it as a rap song, which totally ignores the DJIng, producing and rest of MCing.
Did you watch the video? His delivery is terrible..he doesn't inhale at the end of every line but tries to make it last longer and ends up panting. He talks about how depressed he is and doesn't use the 16 bar length in every rap song.
I give you everything you said about the other artists, Buck 65, just mumbles his words..i have no idea how that fool has a following. As far as 'rap song" please, you are straying from the point and now debating semantics.
I'm confused, do you dislike Eyedea in general or just in this video, b/c this one of Glass sounds close to the studio one. Also, saying that I'm arguing semantics is absurd when you're bringing up 16 bars. Sure many of the greats do it, but seriously, Aesop doesn't and he's a monster. What you find horrible thousands find touching. His delivery, to me, conveys a feeling of desperation. That's why I listen to E&A. Their battle oriented songs are great, but I really enjoy the philosophical stuff.
WTF?! Dawg..the DJing, producing and MCing makes it a rap song. Are you fucking serious? Stop trying to put people in your own box. You obviously don't know what rap or hip hop is.
I was talking about the specifics of MCing, which in turn is an element on hip hop along with DJing, Bboying, and graffiti. I definately know what hip hop is, it is the culture, and hip hop songs are what come out of the culture, and for a while rap song and hip hop song were synonymous, but now rap has a negative connotation in the head community, so we use hip hop to refer to real hip hop music.
are you serious? I'll put my money on heart pounding delivery and why does it matter what type of hip hop it is, but hey, there wouldn't be any love without hate.
This is very weak. He has no stage presence in this clip, at all. He isn't interacting with the people and has no clever rhymes, no multis, no in-rhyme. When I attend Rock the Bells this year in San Francisco, I hope he can bring it, cuz this ain't shit
Then dont watch it stupid go play some video games or somethin. Some people got shitty taste in music... And who the fuck are you by the way??? What the hell are you doing thats so "clever" lol. by the way I hope you eat shit and die...
Ok, I could easily say the same thing about your music...This is what some people like me like to listen to. You are an apple and I am an orange. You think your music is better, I think this music is better. It is an opinion. I think this is lyrically strong. Alot of skill hear.

This is an amazing song from a, once, amazing rapper. I don't feel I respect him and his music anymore for various reasons. But the way he was before, and the music he made then. Wow! That's the kind of rapper I want to be!
why diid everyone give this post downers? it's not just saying fuck Eyedea, it's his honest opinion on the progression of Eyedea. For the record he even said this song is amazing, and I agree, it's Mike's best song, period, probably the best hip hip song ever recorded, nothing mike does will ever top this song. Although I do have high hopes for skydiver.
Well, I made that coment 5 months ago after a saw a short piece of an interview with him. What I saw was brutaly taken out of context and gave me the wrong impression of him. I love him again now though:D
This is an incredibly amazing song. It caught me in such a trance when I first listened to it, shared it with a friend, and did the same to him. It grasps the fuck out of you, especially in the first listen.
imagine most rappers remembering up to 12-15 songs every word.. for a concert.. but its easy since they wrote them.. its their job to do this.. so they got to master it.
this is what music should be...not mainstream emo shit rock...not rap songs about 22" rims and hoes...this is real music that comes from two of the most talented people i have ever seen.
I can't stop listening to this song, same with Even Shadows Have Shadows. E&A really know how to make hiphop. And how can you compare a great emcee like Eyedea to a deadshit like Eminem? Eye makes real songs, Em makes bullshit, like comparing classic rock to a pile of dog shit
This Is A Decent Song Not My Fav But I Still Enjoy it Eyedea Gets Off On These Wierd Tangents ( and as far as eminem comparisons they make 2 very different kinds of music e&a And all those rhymesayers guys make HIP HOP not corperate Rap Jingles ....like eminem
Whoa i had this album but to perform it live takes alot of skill...i cant believe i got goosebumps from dis and dat rarely happens...real ish 4real kid!Nice POST BOI!
filthy song but not a huge fan of the video... I don't think it's really necessary to use such jerky, rapid camera movements. the song carries you enough that you don't need a video to let you know, "Hey, the pace is kind of frantic right now so we're going to wobble the camera a lot."
eyedea is dope as hell neone else notice his voice is fucked ...it's probally cuz he raps high pitched and that was the las song he did probally a real good show
This video gives me ridiculous chills, I have to put a jacket on before I click play.

I love him again now though:D

totally true, I love this song, it's so bizarre, but it's so real and emotional. it's really raw, I can't wait for E&A's next album.

This is an incredibly amazing song. It caught me in such a trance when I first listened to it, shared it with a friend, and did the same to him. It grasps the fuck out of you, especially in the first listen.

Ya gotta give em credit though, it sounds like a hard song to sing with no papers to read from, it's alot better than what most people could do.

imagine most rappers remembering up to 12-15 songs every word.. for a concert.. but its easy since they wrote them.. its their job to do this.. so they got to master it.

this is what music should be...not mainstream emo shit rock...not rap songs about 22" rims and hoes...this is real music that comes from two of the most talented people i have ever seen.

Blindedbythelight 4 years ago
I can't stop listening to this song, same with Even Shadows Have Shadows. E&A really know how to make hiphop. And how can you compare a great emcee like Eyedea to a deadshit like Eminem? Eye makes real songs, Em makes bullshit, like comparing classic rock to a pile of dog shit
truebluecobber 4 years ago
eminem was good for his album or two, but now he is a gangster rapper and yes eye is amazing
lilmanweeman 4 years ago 2
This Is A Decent Song Not My Fav But I Still Enjoy it Eyedea Gets Off On These Wierd Tangents ( and as far as eminem comparisons they make 2 very different kinds of music e&a And all those rhymesayers guys make HIP HOP not corperate Rap Jingles ....like eminem

filthy song but not a huge fan of the video... I don't think it's really necessary to use such jerky, rapid camera movements. the song carries you enough that you don't need a video to let you know, "Hey, the pace is kind of frantic right now so we're going to wobble the camera a lot."
