This is why any Pens fan who boos Jarda deserves to be slapped. He kept that team in Pittsburgh and in the playoffs when they were in bankruptcy. And for those who say he was selfish for leaving - he was trying to do what was best for the team. He knew the team couldn't afford him. If he'd stayed the Pens whould have finished too high up in the standings. They wouldn't have been able to draft Cindy, or Malkin or that goalie of theirs - which means your Pens never would have won this last Cup.
I remember this like it was yesterday. There were rumors the Pens were going to move all season. The talk before this game was "Will this be the final Penguins game ever in Pittsburgh?" This game/series is just a notch below the 3 cups IMO.
Buffalo 2001 was another great "non-cup" moment. Ah, the "Immaculate Deflection"---I remember jumping out of my chair when that happened. Then, Kasper's OT goal in game seven. Are those on Youtube? I can't seem to find them.
@sallyed66 remember when the pens beat the crapitals as a 7th seed in the 1st round? i thought that was a pretty sweet non cup moment. or when straka stole it from gonchar to score on kolzig in 2001? we've had quite a few good times at the crapitals' expense. let's hope we can keep that tradition alive this year as well ;-)
Yeah I never understood the big deal with the Pens/Caps rivalry since all it traditionally has been is the Pens owning the Caps. Remember the 4 OT game from the 90s? Petr Nedved ended the game at like 2 in the morning, how sweet was that?
I liked the Lemieux era of the Pens no doubt BUT give credit where credit is due, Jagr era of the Pens were as amazing as Lemieux's era. Shame on the Pittsburgh fans for booing him, he brought you many memorable highlight reel goals and was THE best/top scoring forward during that time. Its clips like these that show Jagr does give a damn about the game.
im a huge pens fan and believe me there are many more people that are deeply embarrassed when some of the narrow-minded pens fans boo him. most appreciate what he brought to this team. we couldn't afford to keep him so he was traded, simple as that. if anything, be prepared to boo marian hossa if he doesn't resign with us for about $1 million less that another team will give him, bringing back grim reminders of neil o'donnell leaving us after the steelers lost in the super bowl to dallas in 1996
Vince retired from playing for the Pens in 2003. He's about 80 so he deserves some time off. Also, times have changed and arena organists for hockey are an endangered species. They're playing more rock music and commercials between plays rather than an organist filling this time as in the past. I also noticed they stopped using the siren after the Pens would score at the Igloo and began sounding air horns as they do in many other arenas. Times change, but it's sad to see some traditions go.
the organ changed a couple of years ago. in this video it sounds like the one at Three Rivers, and PNC. I wish they would bring back the old goal siren though.

fuk u man. penguin fans will prob. boo sidney crosby if he gets traded... he gave in wtf are you talking about. he put up solid numbers almost every year for pittsburgh....it was about his contract issue not the fans that he gave up...u should blame your front office for not keeping this guy cuz hes awesome and he had an awesome career....jerkoff penguin fans. why dont u boo malkin while ur at it!
Man, f*** all them Jagr haters out there...Ya'll Pittsburgh ppl need 2 stop hatin on Jagr, even though I'ma Carolina Hurricanes fan...But, I've seen him do his thing at Pittsburgh, even when Lemieux wasn't around, but I would most definitely like to see him back in a Pens uniform.
Rite, Jagr will always be a part of the penguins deep down, the reason for fans booing him is not because he "gave up" at the end, its because he told reporters he was "dying slowly" in Pittsburgh. Lemieux took sacrifices, why shouldn't he?? He sold out to become the highest paid player at the time, and thats why he left, thats why he gave up. selfish, pure selfish, not to mention the extra comment was a slap in the face to top it off.
tommy barasso was a key player during those cup years but looking back i'm not sure how any eyebrows were raised with how he played in '93 against the islanders, but he should have been given the benefit of the doubt at the time. but his play against the panthers in '96 was just pitiful and cost them another trip to the finals, and yet he was still around into the year 2000, well past his prime
ya im with u on him he was good with us in cup years, but he was a bum in 92-93playoffs vs islanders, giving up a slapshot from mid ice and a slapshot by tom fitzgerald for florida in 96 conf finals what bum we had all that firepower and loss vs florida that had ther leading scorer w 70pts and we had 4guys over 100pts.

There should never be a negative word about Jagr among Pittsburgh fans. What he did both with and without Lemieux was utterly amazing. He had the energy and effort to complement his top eschelon talent. And the abuse he took, especially during Lemieux's abscence, when teams could divert more attention to him. He really threaded the needle against the Devils - in pain too. You have to love Straka too. 1998-99 pens definitely my favorite second only to Stan cup years.
i've looked for this for ever...i was sitting second row where the pens gathered after the overtime goal.If i stay in my seat i make the front page of the sports section in the post-gazette.This buy far was one of Jagrs best games in the black in gold.
Jarda was brilliant that game. Played through a groin injury, two goals and won the game. I was watching the game with a guy I was dating at the time - he was a huge Devils fan. When JJ scored that goal in OT - the boyfriend cried. I laughed.
That makes 2 of us. Ya he said some things about Pittsburgh and sure he wanted out, but he still played the best years of his career in a Pens jersey. With Jagr and Lemieux, some of the best games took place. He's still in the Ring of Honor at the Civic Arena and I have a feeling his number will be retired. I think most fans don't mean it when they boo. Deep down we still like Jager
