  • You have to be kidding, the amount of efficiency loss just through the gearing would make this completely unfeasible. Try again please. And seriously, you think Jesus really existed?

  • @eBookerbob

Why you say the gearing would cause much inefficiency ? The mechanism looks like a differential system in a car and nobody complains about a great lost of efficiency in the differential.

  • well, the best part of this video is the music...lol

  • what is that nice song name?

  • this music gives me a boner

  • Holy Overmodulation, Batman!

  • That has already been invented it is called a differential

  • wtf is this music rofl? hahaha

  • @NizTeam i kinda like it !!

  • I made a very large #VAWT out of cardboard that actually held up pretty well. I think I have a #VIDEO of it posted somewhere...

  • it actually makes sense to a certain degree if they have a electric clutch or an infinitely variable drive connecting them. I have used a smaller hawt many times to run power to my bigger unit till it gets up to speed and then it disconnects. In low wind speed conditions the unit will make some power if it can start but it needs to get going so the small unit is like a starter in your car. I would use a lift type vawt like the "Remkick" to get as much power from the wind as possible though

  • The more complex you make this the more drag you have. Drag is not efficient

  • Nice... ;)

  • There is mining equipment in the Mohave desert that uses a Model A rear end in just exactly this fashion.

  • I meant darrieus not savonius sorry...

  • Why combine a vawt with a hawt?

U use a simple differential gear to add both rotation movements, i think the windmill wich generates more force will slow down the rotation of the other, wich is fatal for the savonius roter cause he has low torque and generates low power at slow rotation speeds. U will have to make sure that both windmills have excactly the same torque, in every wind situation, wich i think is impossible.

    Correct me if I'm wrong!

  • @kreuzundquer i will try and correct you, and see if u agree-my suggestion-

i thought the same thing when i looked at the design, however when u wanna know the easiest way it could be just as simple to put a slip coupling/rpm rotation start piece so if either became suddenly irrelevant due to wind speed etc. it would simply dis-engage the proper blade

  • @xxx777aaa

Sure that would solve this problem, but than you have 2 seperate types of windmill design in 1 machine.... wich makes little sence...

  • Keep it simple stupid.

  • I am trying to find ideas for wind driven devises to put in my yard. Are there still pictures of the creations in the video.

  • pretty nice

  • I think that it has too many moving parts. It should have the minimal amount of moving parts to allow for low maintenance.

  • You are right in one sense; Good engineering uses the least number of moving parts possible for lower friction / increased efficiency.

However, to convert rotary motion at right angles, planetary gears such as these deliver vastly improved rigidity and load-bearing, with only minimal increase in friction. The benefits of double or even triple gearing in high torque applications far outweighs a slight reduction in efficiency.

  • Sorry , I mean how does the hawt part yaw? This is supposed to be a vawt geared onto a hawt to make the best of both but I reckon it would be more efficient to have either one or the other , my thoughts are that when the the hawt stalls it will make the vawt less efficient, etc.

  • how does the vawt yaw (point into the wind) ?

  • VAWTs don't have to; that's the whole point.
