Wait. Bud Lucky annimated & sang all the Sesame number vids he made? Didn't know he sang 'em. Should've known. The singer in this sounds like him a bit.
Bud Lucky is so awesome! He's one of those animation guys who's work I've seen all my life. When I was a kid, I was seeing his animation, such as this one, on Sesame Street. As an adult, I'm watching Pixar movies. By the way, I recently picked up the book The Art of Cars, and I got excited because it's got a lot of really beautiful conceptual artwork by Bud Luckey. Great stuff.
I love this skit, it brings back so many memories for me. I also love this song, and I know if off by heart (in Icelandic, albeit). Plus it's totally in my key.
The original version on the Turk Murphy "Wild Man Blues" CD has a different last line, where he says "I got it on sale at Monkey Ward's" (Montgomery Ward's, a defunct department store). I synced this version up to the animation, and the mouth movements still say "Monkey Ward's."
I'd forgotten about this one. The singing is the San Francisco Jazz great Turk Murphy whose band did the backup. Bud Luckey is the voice of the King himself. Don Hadley co-wrote the lyrics. A fun piece.
Greatest of all the hits of my childhood

Did he say "cigar?" That's evil! Censor!
smurfblood 1 year ago
@smurfblood He broke out in spots. It's enough of a anti-cigar message that they wouldn't.
