@AkBeringer7 Western Culture or Western Civilization means from European origin, and not the East or Far East such as Asia. Before the New World there was Asia in the East connected to Eurpoe in the West. The term Western has nothing to with John Wayne unless you are talking about movies. You will see when you get to college and perhaps take Western Civ(civilization)
Very beautiful played and in the real good tempo (about the same as by Bruno Walter and Georg Solti).
Originally written for 15 instruments, based on a part of a stringquartet, a nursery song and themes from the musicdrama "Siegfried".
First performance on Christmas Day (birthday also of Wagners wife Cosima) 1970 in the asylum "Tribschen" near Luzern in Switzerland. It was Wagners present for Cosima as a remind of the birth of their son Siegfried. Also F.Nietzsche was present that day.
He should have just bought her hat or something. If it was my wife, on every subsequent birthday she would be pestering me,'where's that orchestra that you got me before?'
They're both great- but Brahms mastered many things and Wagner only one thing. The composers who wrote great symphonies belong in a class of their own.
It's not that Brahms wasn't able to master an opera...it was well within his capabilities to do so (ever listened to ein deutsches requiem?)...he just excelled so much in absolute music that the vast majority of his works were just that...instrumental and absolute.
Plus...if he ever were to put an opera out it would've been completely overshadowed by Wagner's operas and his own absolute music.
I think that Wagner composed this slow melody to show all the width of its feelings to its beloved :D
I found this melody so beautiful and romantic... and I love this partition because after so much of time, the expressed feelings always feel with the same force.
I agree, I heard one version that was played at the propper tempo and it was awesome. One other Wagner song that I wish an orchestra would get right is "entrance into the hall of the gods" Every version I have heard is so weak, drives me nuts. Put some electric guitars in the orchestra, give it some power, it's the hall of the GODS!!! for crying out loud, not the hall of the faries. I'm sure Wagner would if he was around today. Maybe Trans Siberian Orch. please somebody
So schön.

1:35 - 2:11 is one of those impossibly gorgeous moments that is at the pinnacle of beauty of all of Western music.

@NailI3unny No need to qualify music with 'Western.' This is among the best music any human has composed, anywhere, ever.

Well, but Brahms wasn't able to master an opera, as Wagner, in his opera shows is mastery for nearly evertything
