When I was young I went to an inner city school because I didn't have a lot of money and I was in that district. The wealth created by U.S. slavery was largely in the South where a small percentage of whites owned plantations. Much of their wealth was obliterated in the civil war. The real wealth of the U.S. came from industrialization and invention, especially after WW2 when we became a superpower. Blacks were not in a position to contribute to the rise of the U.S..

It goes both ways. I live in a not-so-great neighborhood and am white. One neighbor told her kids "You don't need to play with no white boy" about my son, white bread has been shoved under the hood of my car (weird, I know) and my man gets told all the time that he doesn't belong in this neighborhood in a menacing manner. I think the better question is the opposite one. It's the black lynchmobs who are out in the streets today yelling "KILL WHITEY" and attacking people because of the color of their skin. It's not just black men, it's young "non professionals" in general. If you had have been white and talking like your typical "hood rat" white person, their demeanour would have been the same. "Young urban styled males" are likely to be irresponsible financially, regardless of colour. Note that your aunt is black too, but they were keen on her. Age, gender. social standing, these are what the landlords were concerned about.
