True. Very unfortunate. I'd kill to see a remake using today's graphics, fully orchestrated soundtrack, all of it. As much as I love this game, even I'll admit that its visuals have not aged well. What's really a disappointment is how seemingly stupid SEGA is with this franchise. It's solid gold, and I see no reason why they shouldn't capatilize on it fully. Perhaps they deserve to be the third rate company they are.

@rekunta Interestingly enough there were talks of bringing Panzer Dragoon Saga to the Gamefly service a few years back, but apparently they cited "lack of real interest" as their main reason to not releasing it, along with them not wanting to have to emulate all 4 discs. It's bullshit, but i guess that's games nowadays. SEGA needs to get on the stick and start remaking this game, even if they have to start from scratch

Yeah I got the first disc free with Sega Saturn magazine, but my brother already had it on order. One of my all time favourite games, and RPG's. Great story, superb score, and excellent graphics (for the time and for the Saturn). I can't believe I traded all my Saturn games and the console for about $30. Nowadays Panzer Dragoon Saga goes in triple digits as a collectors item. Team Andromeda did an excellent job. Shame they disbanded, probably after this game.

Maybe its just me, but i think the Sega Saturn surpasses even the Nintendo 64 in many ways, i mean, just look at this and Panzer Dragoon 2, look at the scale, at the polygons, at the textures, at the draw distances... Man, the Sega Saturn and the Sega Dreamcast are the consoles that had so much to show, man... Consoles that were never pushed to the limits...

Sega's hardware was always ahead of it's time.

There are many reasons to Sega's decline after the turn of the century, their alien hardware could of been one of them. Very similar to the Playstation 3 when it was released. Developers were scared to make games for the machine, market share return, and not being able to fully understand the hardware in general.

The good news for me is that I was finally able to buy a copy of this game on ebay, I had a hunch after reading its wikipedia entry and looking on gamefaqs about it that its an awesome game since many people seem to love it...The bad news is since this game had a very limited production time (and no re-release) to make copies it cost me $197 to buy. Ouch, now for any game that's a steep price, and I still need to get a Sega Saturn before I can play it.

Dude. First off, play as Spiritual dragon. You get all the good berserks that way quicker... second, if you haven't figured it out yet--Atolm's weakness is his tail. Get behind it, use your blaster (recommend getting an addon to it first) but the most important thing, when it cuts to Azel with the "Ne-Rai!" get to the front! Berzerker Rage can't hit you in front...

I remember that in this battle, it's good to use a shield chip, then you should build up your three gauges then go to the back of the dragon and shoot it's tail, which is it's weak spot. There are different techniques for each battle, and I found it possible to get 'Excellent' at the end of most battles, after becoming more experienced with the game.

On my second play, I could get an excellent on every battle, but I had to repeat most of the major battles. This game is awesome.

Yes, I know about it, it's really sad. But still, Sega could try porting it through emulation - it wouldn't really be a "port" (just the original game + an emulator), but still. IMO, the best thing would be a full remake of the game, with completely new graphics - it's a shame that Sega is only interested in releasing new Sonic games.

yeah some feeling got lost because the real PD games had this special graphical feeling and audio, they lost it a bit with all the flashy colours, less real and imaginable , but otherwise I still really loved playing the Ortapart, it was still very much Panzer dragoon lock on action, they had some new idea (which I think is utmost important to Panzer Dragoon) and the gimmicks like the graphiks really had been a great gift to fans. Right now the game is worth 250 in U.S. dollars. This game is gonna sky rocket before the end of summer and I mean SKY ROCKET! This game is gonna be worth any where from 3 to 10 thousands bucks soon. They only made 30,000 of this game for sega saturn. 11,000 thousand was shipped back to the manufacture because Saturn was being discontinued. 22,000 were sold and we don't even know how many are in poor, good, great, and excellent condition yet. I have a copy stashed with the rest of my S.S. games

There was never a sequel to Saga. There was the first game, then Zwei followed by Saga with the final game Orta being released for the Xbox .I believe there was a handheld game as well, but it sucked.

The team that made this disbanded soon after its release, it had a VERY small production run, the source code was lost, and two team members died during development (one by suicide.) It's got quite a background.

the tail is the weak point, even in '97 you didn't need internet help and faq to work that out. For those who don't know this game marked weak points of enemies with the text 'weak'. That isn't a bad thing, usually the fun was in exposing the weak point before exploiting it.

It was around 7 years ago i was at a computer fair, and one stall an elderly woman was selling off some off her computer goods, she had a few saturn games laying on the table, i knew nothing of the games the sega saturn had at the time. What a game, the drones, the ancients, the monsters. It's unfortunate that we'll never see something this unusual again in RPG's (the RPG gaming community seems content to play crap like Wild Arms and Suikoden if the plethora of sequals are any indication). It's even less fortunate that the beautiful artwork was never done justice by the Saturn's real-time graphics... or its low-res FMV's for that matter.

Erm, I was 14 when I first played this back in 1998, and it didn't take me too long to get to grips with it...

What is shocking for me though, is that not even at one point did you consider drifting behind Atolm and shooting him with Edge's gun at the weak point?

I seem to remember you could get away with at least one burst before he would hit you with his berserker when in the red shaded area...

This game brings back so many fantastic memories and was from the time period where Sega actually made an effort with their games. A true CLASSIC.

Yes, that weak spot is the base of the fight.. you should aim for it at all costs with the dragon's laser.. that and a little bit of dragon stats knowledge and you're set for an easy fight.. I usualy don't like to reveal my "strategies" over games but if I ever make a video of this one I'll be glad to show them :p
