  • I love this version, in my opinion, there sidney is THE ONLY person qualified to be Walter Lee. This scene changes the way I see Walter, it is suppose to make you understand him better...It teaches a life lesson about love and forgiveness

  • theres always somethin left to love

  • Lol I Cnt Find Dha Utha One!

  • Look at Linder at 10:08, hes like Son-of-a-bitch!

  • The film is better than that TV movie a year or so ago!!!

  • One of the greatest injustices in the history of the Academy Awards was their overlooking of Claudia McNeil's performance in this film. The fact that she wasn't even nominated is nothing short of a crime.

  • White dude would be saying "You people"

  • Amazing performances!!

  • the guy playing lindner is from 12 angry men lol

  • the acting is this version seems so trumped up that the nuance of the lines are lost. It's powerful and charismatic acting, yes, but I hate to see such great lines buried under undue amounts of emotion.

  • Measure him right she say's...drawed tears to my eyes...one great movie and one great story of values.

  • Sidney Poitier is the shit

  • every black man needs a mother like her.

  • This is my favorite scene in this movie.

  • iin all the versions how come they make beneatha light skinned?

  • Beneatha's daddy was light skin.

  • wheres the one with the old woman who was on good times and danny glover.

  • claudia macneil is a god. she deserved an oscar for this!

  • I luv this line..so profound and the gospel truth..

"The time to love the most is when he's at his lowest and can't believe in himself"...

    =D thnx 4 posting!!!

  • The gospel truth? Does that mean it's bullshit?

  • @Timorio

JESUS loves you...whether you believe or not.. I pray for blessings, illumination, and a softened heart.. for you..=)

  • Blocked, and be blessed! =)

I won't go back and forth with you- and your antics.

I understand that HURT ppl hurt ppl.

    I pray blessings always =)

  • Of course you won't go back and forth with me, sweetie; you can't, which is precisely why the religious are mocked for their inane beliefs.

Simple strokes for simple folks, I suppose.

  • Though amused, I weep 4 u also.

"Classic u-tuber"-faceless, outspoken & hostile. Ur profile shows u thrive on trolling & sending negativity. It gives u a false sense of gratification, but doesn't remove ur inner turmoil. *Projection & Deflection*-I suggest u make peace w/ ur hurt, shame,& pain so u can use that energy 4 the gr8ter good!.

Plz view HealingMagic's videos..it may help u do that..

Plz note: "When u repay evil 4 good, evil will never leave ur house-Prov 17:13"

    ~~Blessings~~

  • Do you always drone on with this "blessings" drivel, or is it only activated as a defense mechanism when your delusions are under attack?

If you've seen my profile, then I'm sure you're aware I'm not into magic, but thanks for the feigned concern. It always amuses me when your type attempts to analyze someone and talk down to them by claiming you feel sorry for them. I suppose hypocrisy is life for you bible thumpers.

  • go fuck your mother you ignorant dick head

  • EXCELLENT!!!

  • Jeez no wonder Walter wasnt afraid to stand up to Linder, look he is a peewee and his voice sounds like Richard Simmons.

  • in my top 5 best movies of all time...watch it on dvd at least twice a year.....

as relevant today as it was back then..!!!!!!

  • when do you think is the time to love somebody the most...

    true

  • and to think diddy really had the nerve 2 think he could try an portray an actor of such a superb caliber...he needs 2 sit his nonacting, outlandish, self righteous, ass down some damn where...

  • Sidney should'v won the Oscar for his portrayal of Walter Lee, not for "Lillies of the Field."

  • Sidney is one of the best actors that have ever lived. I am a classic movie fan and he is at the top of my list. I love the old version better than the new version of Raisin in the Sun. I have this movie on tape.

  • i like both versions i just wish they would have casts a different actor as walter. This is a powerful show full of words that touch the soul no matter have showcase it..

  • You are right it was very powerful movie.

  • in my top 5 of best movies ever..

    watch it twice a year.....

great cast ,greatly acted, still powerful today...!!!!

  • Me too. My husband and I love watching this movie. I think we watch it a few times a year too at least. Sidney is one of our favorite actors. They don't make movies like this anymore. I guess that is why we are classic movie fans.

  • @Berthola1 There's a new version? This is the only one I've ever known of.

  • asagai o man he look good in this version o lord

  • i love u

  • wow they dont make them like this any more (Jesus is Lord!)

  • good version, however, i'd rather have a different actress for the mom.

  • These was acting from the Soul! with out modern day special effects and obscene lanquage, true talent doesnt need false

images and shocking diction to be great.

This was movie making at its finest.

These days are sadly gone when you can feel the energy from characters and the actors that made them live.

    Excellent.

  • powerful actors... in this film were also the same powerful actors in the Broadway stage production in '59.

the best actors are in the theater ...

where only great dramatic actors will bring out the best of a great playwright... All Honor to Lorraine Hansbury.

  • perfection....

  • Powerful! Beautiful, one of the greatest moments in drama. Long live Sidney!

  • this entire film was just so well acted and carried out. The story is simply classic, you feel every character. Don't get that much in modern films lately.

  • Yes, I agree completely.

    Have you read the book?

    I love it!

  • sidney is ac incredable actor- always has been

  • sidneeey!!!! i just watched lilies of the field

  • Sidney P..Is phonemenal! in this movie.

  • hmm....

in my opinion they have yet to capture the beauty of the play.

  • We just finish the play in my english class. Great play!

  • ACTING AT ITS BEST

  • diana sands sidney's sister rip

  • Perfect!

  • Mama guides Walter into becoming a man in this scene. Love it.

  • I love THIS MOVIE. SIDNEY!!! This is a classic that can NEVER be remade.

  • Actualyy the 1987 version is the best with ester roll and danny glover and starletta dubios. check it out and you will find it is the best of three versions

  • HEY ASSHOLE, ACTUALLY is spelled this way....... DUMBASS

  • Hey man, be quiet.

He made a small typo, there is no need for hostility.

  • the old version is way better than the new version! these people are talented! i love every part of this play!

  • We just finished this play in school today! So inspiring.

  • Whats even more powerful than sydney's performance is when the rest of his family realizes the change in Walter and the good that he is doing and what it means for a black man to stand up to a white man. Its brilliant and played to perfection.

  • Check out Danny Glover in a PBS play version of Raisin in the Sun. Oustanding! I think better than Sidney and far better the Sean. Anyway I love my peoples stories on how they got over.

Of course we wont really get over 'til we get to walk the streets of gold. What a day that will be! Luv ya

  • No disrespect, but u must b kidding by saying that diddy acted better than sidney...sidney's a legend!!! diddy could not stop being diddy if u ask me...but i guess it was just a t.v movie anyway.

  • Destin, You misundertood what I wrote:Danny did a better job than Sean and maybe even Sidney. I went back to look at Sidneys performance check again. Danny & Sidney is close. I would love to see Dannys play again but cant really find it w/out payin arm/leg. Love to see Sean do more serious stuff. Sean & I are homeys. Grew up in Bklyn projects in 1950s. See ya on the "streets"

  • You are right, but I like both versions of the movie. Diddy is no Sidney Poitier, but he along with everyone else did their parts extremely well and they should be commended.

  • Dannys version was New York like, when I grew up in the 50's Sidneys was somewhere else, like Chicago. My father acted like that when we was drunk. He wanted to move out of the projects Move to a house in the suburbs I can relate to Dan. Watch Sean in a few years.

  • I rly dont understand the play!

can some1 plz plz plz tell me wats going on??

I need this for a school assignment.

Just some1 explain to me wat exactly just happened.

  • Walter is at the lowest point of his life right now. He feels so bad about what happened to his father's life insurance money and right now he thinks this is the best way out, to tell the white guy that they won't be moving into the new house and that they will accept the money that the white guy has to offer them. He thinks that this is the only way he will be able to "get the money back".

  • However, as soon as the white guy shows up and Lena doesn't let his son go out of the room, Walter changes his mind. he looks at his son and realizes that he wants good for his family but does not want to lose his pride over it. He comes to the realization that he had to be a man, not take the easy way out and at the same time teach his son about black pride.

  • he has realized that he will not let the white people and racist society take over his life. His father, his family and his ancestors has worked so hard in this country and he wasn't going to throw it all away just to satisfy the racist.

  • Oh no! I had to write a summary about the play and I wrote it TOTALLY wrong!!

    =O

    What will my teacher think??

Ok thank you very much anyway, you were extremely helpful.

    thanx

  • I just HAD 2 come here to recpture that FIRE.

    POITIER IS A GENIUS.

    Diddy made me proud though.

    NO he wasn't Poitier,

but how could he have been.

But he DID invest HIS OWN MONEY

to make sure that we remembered

    this Classic Piece.

And his acting debut was just that, a DEBUT.

With time and seasoning will get even better.

  • That's something folks don't understand. Diddy, hate him or love him, should Respect that the man took HIS OWN MONEY and brought Raisin back to life.

I'm proud of him because he enhanced his performance by doing work. Hard work. And it showed. I'm scared of him in 5 yearas on the acting thing.

  • p-diddy cant match sidney,but p-diddy held his own

  • gOD WHAT a kick ass performace by everyone!

  • Puffy was OK, but Sidney OWNS Walter Lee.

  • That is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH!!!!!!SIDNEY KICK ASS AND SO DO THE OTHER PLAYERS CAN'T COMPARE TO THE COMBS VERSION NICE TRY BUT JUST NOT THE SAME!

  • i definately agree with you secretwarrior1500

  • Why does walter look so much like Muhammad Ali
