3. Have tons of new people learn about your new song.
4. Have some of those new people find their way to a video of you performing the song and have them insult you for ruining the great song you created!
love this song, anyone know where i can get backing track, i searched everywhere, or anyone feels like having a go, you can email me mark.g.tong@gmail.com
Miss you Stephen, but you left a lot of beautiful music for us to remember you by. You made a lot of great Monday nights at the Saxon Pub even better. <3
Stephen Bruton used to come up to Wichita Falls and play at the Iron Horse Pub. He was always joined by his old buddy Michael O'Neil. He used to say that Mike O'Neil was his favorite guitar player. They were both a part of Delbert McClinton's early solo and duet career with Glen Clark. Stephen Bruton, we miss you more than we can say. He died from cancer during the filming of Crazy Heart. A great loss to modern music. But he leaves a wonderful legacy for the world.
dbkuhns... still talking to you.. what have you ever done that qualifies you to make statements such as that? Or to even have an opinion about music in any right? You don't even know the people you're calling clowns are the reason that song exists.
dbkuhns: Great Song, But I resent that these clowns ruined it.
Great post... but I resent idiots like that are wasting my air....
"dbkuhns" - this one's for you. Your impudent and ignorant statement, referring to Stephen and the other musicians as clowns, stating they ruined a song that HE wrote, made me livid at first... but then I realized that you have no clue what you are talking about, do you? Plainly spoken, you had no idea who wrote the song you said was great. Stephen (Bruton - you know, the clown that wrote and ruined that song) has more talent and and brilliance then you could comprehend. What have you ever done?
Thank you for posting this. I just watched Crazy Heart. 4 years ago I met Stephen Bruton at the Saxon Pub in Austin. It was the ultimate pleasure of my lifelong association with music, to listen over and over to his CD, "From the Five", and recognize a TRUE, (too little known) songwriter's songwriter, and musician's musician. I'm sure I know how missed he is by those close to him, and those he touched, off stage, on stage, and from the stage. I will always remain inspired by what he shared!
Stephen Bruton WROTE the song -- not possible for him to ruin it. If you like another version, fine, but check your facts first before complaining about the creator performing the song.
After I saw Crazy Heart, I went straight home and learned this song on guitar. Then when I researched the story behind it and Stephen's story, I was shocked, How sad he departed right after he finsihed the music for the film. And what a great artist as seen by other videos. Makes me tap my foot again and get back into country,
He couldn't have ruined it, he wrote the darn thing.

1. Write one of the greatest songs ever.
2. Have the song picked up for use in a movie.
3. Have tons of new people learn about your new song.
4. Have some of those new people find their way to a video of you performing the song and have them insult you for ruining the great song you created!
Only in America!

Chipman is indeed one of the Resentments, but the drummer seen here is Rob Hooper - both great drummers.

I have to giggle. . . that is so Stephen. And, so program, which is how he lived his life. Thanks, CasaDexter for posting. We miss him so much!

Thanks so much.... loved Jeff singing this in the movie, but extra special to see the songwriter doing his own song at the Armadillo Bazaar.
