  • Does anyone know if the music used first in the ride is a actual song or just made for the ride?

The one that is also used after "Those who seek the spirit of Norway, seeks peril and adventure, but more often find beauty and charm..."

  • I remember going on this ride during the day and when getting off I thought it was actually night time outside. hahah

  • Am I the only one that hears the narrator in the post-ride film call it Norvay?

  • It's a shame they didn't make any of the Vikings look like Hakon; would've given the ride an extra touch of Disney without being overly-cutesy.

  • This is my favorite country to visit in World Showcase. I love them all but this is special. The Maelestrom Ride is awesome, the restaurants are fantastic and the people are lovely. What a fantastic country and culture. ANd it's even more beautiful at Christmastime. :)

  • @AquaFanForeverX - I agree. I have always had a soft spot for this Pavilion. My honeymoon was at WDW back in 91. The people in the restaurant made our meal there A++; very heart warming, special, the Walt touch if you know what I mean. Since then I have always had a heart connection with this pavilion.

  • there was a boat outside u could play on idk if it's still available 2 see . great ride maelstrom is. lots of fun. hope 2 go 2 wdw soon! was there last yr but it was july & hot & w/my group which i couldn't get away from thanks 2 the counselors & we were @ magic kingdom

  • I thought there was a swinging ship ride in Norway. It was a favorite of my grandfather's. Did they replace it, or am I thinking of a different ride?

  • There is no swinging ship at Norway nor anywhere else at WDW. At second 28 you see a viking ship. However, it is a stationary ship - more like a playground.

  • Oh. Oops. Thanks for clearing that up for me, though!

  • @ru42 Yeah, I remember some of the playground. But they closed it off because kids kept getting hurt or jumping off into restricted areas or some other such nonsense.

  • what music started around 1:15?

  • It starts at about :52. I know it is as the Stave Church music (the building you see at :52. If there is an official title I do not know what it is. I hope that helps you some.

  • @beasst94 It is from Jan Garbareks album "Officium", Hes a famous norwegian sax player. The vocals are by The Hilliard Ensemble. Enjoy :)

  • i didnt know either and i was just into Norway and there was a sign that said fast pass and standby and i was like is this a ride and the people were like yea and i was like kool haha, it really short ride, but there's a really cool movie afterwards :))

  • TOKI WARTOOTH NOT A BUMBLEBEE!!!!

    Epcot rules btw

  • That little town when you get off is so cool and atmospheric. Makes me want to go inside all the houses and explore the town!

  • Ever since I visited here a few years ago, I have absolutely fallen in love with the country and study the language for about 4 hours every day. It is my dream to emigrate to and work in Norway! :D

  • What is the beautiful music in this? What's it's name? How can one get a copy?

  • To which music are you referring to? There are 2 different pieces. The fist is more robust, The second is the very soft music from the Stave Church.

  • I for one would love an isolated music track of the beginning of the Maelstrom ride.

  • magic kingdom=splash mt

I wanted to respond because it took me a lot of time for me to find this song myself a couple of years ago.

  • thank you a lot

  • where is this amusemnet park?

  • if you live in america...DUH! its DISNEY WORLD! if you dont that is disney world

  • I am intrigued with Norway and its way of life i would like to visit someday seems like such a magical land. I went to Disney world this past April but i didnt get a chance to see the ride or the shop where all the pretty ladies were, i hope next year when i do go back i will perhaps flirt with them too. I am getting excited thinkin about it! Hopefully i can bring one home with me! LOL

  • Aww<3 you guys are so sweet! I work at the norgwegian pavillion in the attraction area :) I totally love this job! Sharing it to you guys is a dream come true! I'm very proud of being a norwegian and I'm getting all exited when I see so much positive comments! If you do not believe that I am working here, then come see me :) Ask after Gry. Thnx for all the positivity!

  • Thanks for posting! Norway is my favorite Land. Great food, awesome shopss, fun ride, and other great things like the Viking ship and the Stave Church. - - RU

  • DAMN TROLLS

  • Not only is the ride cool, but the movie and music at the end are fantastic! I hope to visit Norway one day. Great tribute!!

  • I've been on this ride so many times, so when we went to WDW this January, right when you go down the last waterfall at the end, I screamed "YOU NASTLY LITTLE TROLLS!" ROFL!!!!

  • About the waterfall at 5:24, at first when I was ride this I was like "HOLY CRAP WE'RE GONNA FALL!" XD

  • If you go to Epcot, go to Norway and get their Double Chocolate Mousse cake...it is extreamly good!!! :)

  • Word...

  • ur videos are great!

  • Oh my god I love this ride

  • i am proud of my country!

  • my fave ride in the world showcase =]

  • I remember this one girl who was operating the ride when I visited some years ago. Lord almighty, she was beautiful. Toril, I believe her name was. I would have moved to some remote fjord and tended goats for the rest of my life just so I could go to bed with that every night. Nice vid, thanks for posting.

  • lol

  • The best ride in Norway... is girl watching the lovely women in the gift shop! Every time I go there they are absolutely beautiful and very nice to talk and flirt with. Really classy ladies. Except for the fatt ugly troll ones haha. I'm calling my travel agent now for accomadations in Oslo...

  • incredible!

my favorite WDW theme park, I would love visit Norway!

  • i love the paintings right before you board the boats

  • 10:21 that's cool music lol

  • I love all your videos. =D

  • Good ride in relation to the wait time

  • very cool. i was going to go on this after roe finished but it was closed :(

  • I love how disney puts the parks and rides with cultural diversity and fantasy elements.

If you have the Extra Magic hours thingy you just HAVE to ride this at night time!!! Its so dark and when your going backwards in the ride you reall think your gonna fall since you cant see anything. I always say that the disney parks have more magic with the Extra Magic hours

  • I agree! And also you don't need to wait in line as long. ^^ Whenever there's Extra Magic Hours in Magic Kingdom I always go on the Haunted Mansion last. C:<

  • I used to work in this pavilion..twice acctually! Great movie :)

  • The ride itself is good. However I really dislike how they hold you captive there for the awful post show.

  • You can walk straight through the room and out the door. It's a ride, not a prison cell. ;) Besides that, I like the film. Cheesy in some ways but nicely done showing the diversity of Norway. -- RU

  • I know you can walk through... but only when the door are open. I mean... once you get off the ride.. and the doors are closed.. they make you wait and wait and wait until the current post show ends, THEN they open the doors and you can go through. It's just irritating. =P

  • Oh yea, I forgot about that part. I agree, they should make a side exit or something. - - RU

  • they have an side exit. I'm norwegian, and last time I was there, they said; the doors are closed, but if you want, we have an exit for inpatient people xD lol just so you know...

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • I love this ride! My dad and I talked all norweigen when we went on the ride. :D

  • man they don't say crush their bones anymore =(

  • Another awesome producton!!! Thanks SO much for creating and posting it!! I feel like I am there right now!!

  • Norway and Mexico are now featured on my latest DVD. You can find more information at members*cox*net/ru42

  • Revamped version? I haven't heard that they were going to refurbish this. When were they going to do it?

  • I'm looking foward to going to Disney World soon.

That Troll in the water scares the crap outta me, and so did the one in the rocks.

  • i hope the revamped version dosent suck... i love this ride

  • This is a great video! What kind of video camera did you use?

  • What do they mean with "Malstrøm"?

  • Maelstrom is Norse for whirlpool.

  • Thanks for that info - I never knew that.

    RU

  • In fact, not really ...

The word maelstrøm is used in norwegian, but is a tongue-deformation from the original dutch word 'maalstroom'.

The original Norwegian word for the phenomenon as it is, is "Moskstraumen". 'Mosk' is derived from the iles of Mosken en Moskenesøy where the 'staumen' (= stream) is located.

    ---SEE NEXT---

  • ---CONTINUED---

Both maalstroom and moskstraumen mean "tidal flow" (but extremely strong one, the strongest one I personally know is around the coast of Brittany, where ships seem to "fall" down 2-3 meters when going through) and NOT nessessarily a whirlpool. A "maalstroom" can produce some whirlpools, but it is not the main thing: it is water flowing in or out a certain area with great force, so, only beeing safe when tide is high or tide is low.

    ---SEE NEXT---

  • ---CONTINUED---

Moskstraumen however not very pronouncible for Americans... and thus would not fit in Epcot... ;)

It is Jules Verne who made the original scandinavian Moskstraumen famous in his '20.000 leages below...', so we are back to "Nemo" etc etc... and SO it fits in again with the Disney suite of films. Second reason why explicitely was choosen for "Maelstrøm" as an attraction billboard.

    ---SEEN NEXT---

  • Jules Verne took inspiration from the "Carta Marina" (Maritime map) of Scandinavia, printed and distributed fro anno 1539 onwards.

The allegoric detail somewhere on the map, shows the location of the Moskstraumen, along with the mythical "Kraken" and a "seadragon" who are busy with swallowing ships. LOL These monster-allegories were used often on antique maps to designate the seriousness of a danger in the indicated area. Lets say: a antique giant Danger-sign.

  • who is voice and what muisc ru42?

  • You should try the Finding Nemo ride for your next vid.

  • I loved seeing this! I love Epcot! Hope I can go back soon!

  • sweeeeeeeet.

  • Trust me when I say that standard definition video can't do justice to how totally cool the Maelstrom ride is! Particularly the scale models of the oil drilling platforms.. They must have used fiber optics, the lighting was incredible and it looked so realistic just like you were out on the ocean looking at one from afar. Not that I'm a big fan of the platforms, but in the ride, it was an incredible scene to see.

  • WDI is good at that, it's thier jobs, lol.

  • Excellent

  • Awsome!

  • Very cool!
