If you knew the origin of England ued know it means the land of the Angles thus the term Angland which became England. Up until 1900 the whole Island of Britain was the land of the Angles. Thus all people born of this island are Angles and thus English. Scottish is just a sub group. I was waiting for a biggot to object to my use of the term. Actually Bennett is an English name and not a Scots name as Henderson means son of Hender a Nordic name and my Grandfather was Nordic Scot from Newcastle.

Might be the Basques though. (They have done mitochondrial DNA studies to look into this.) Or this was the theory at one point.
