All my life I'd loved the Nancy Sinatra version and then this week stumbled upon this magical hypnotic version - it takes me straight back to a cinema as a wide-eyed boy in the 60s, a time of great happiness - have to be honest and say that it makes my heart melt like no other piece of music - must be the superb arrangement of the violins, I don't know. I can't think of a more beautiful piece of music than this one. I remember first hearing either this version or a similar one in the early 70's on a muzak station. I was up in the mountains with my ex-wife and it just set me adrift when they played it. That was the best weekend of my life. I remember only this song.

I found John Barry's 'Playing By Heart' album by accident a few years back. It really relaxes me. I separated the Chet Baker pieces from it to give it a nicer flow on my mp3 player.

It's great to hear this gorgeous John Barry theme as an instrumental. Nancy Sinatra sang the lyric with the charm of an innocent young woman, and her performance is lovely in her own way . . . but the music is really glorious, with some nice Asian touches. A beautiful evocation of the greatest Pacific island of them all. Good luck to Japan and her great people at this sad time of trial.
